About NFCC
Get Help
Summer Notes Summer marches on and NFCC is working hard to keep pace. The waiting room is filling up with parents seeking help, often with children in tow. The kids are fascinated by our big fish tank and the 100s of new baby angel fish hiding in the plants. New faces, new worries, new friends arrive looking lost and wishing they could be anywhere but at NFCC asking for help. New volunteers work alongside experienced volunteers making everyone feel welcome. Donors drop off extra produce from their back yard garden and an ever changing bounty of items for the Thrift Shop. The Thrift Shop is a-buzz as customers are enjoying another special discount day. Across the street at the Education Center classes continue and plans are under way for the Back to School Fair in August. We hope your summer is filled with new (and old) friends, new adventures, and a bit of R & R. Thanks for being part of NFCC.

Fresh Produce for NFCC Families
Our clients are so lucky we have fresh produce for them almost year round but especially in the summer. Thank you to Chattahoochee Nature Center and Alpharetta Community Gardens for their support for many years. We love when they come to visit us.
Our youngest gardener is 6 Year old Riyad El Aboudi of Alpharetta! Here he is delivering the first of hopefully many baskets of produce that he grew in his garden at his school, Amana Academy. He brought us Collard Greens, Yellow Squash, Zucchini, and Tomatoes all picked that afternoon. He has his own section of the garden and is learning all
about how to grow healthy food and he wants to share that with NFCC.
NFCC Back to School Health &
Wellness Fair
Our annual Back to School event helps prepare local
children in need for a successful school year by providing
new backpacks filled with school supplies. After
receiving new backpacks filled with school supplies,
children and parents enjoy refreshments, games, and
health and wellness activities. Last year, with the help of

Student
Power
Summertime is off to a
great start! Dozens of
students have filled our
pantry and store. They
volunteer with their
parents on site as well as help with early morning food
recovery deliveries! We even had a Car Wash and
Customer Appreciation Cook Out!
Students from the Food Awareness Safety Team (FAST)
at State Bridge Elementary School dropped off items that
are celiac friendly, diabetes friendly and food allergy
friendly.

Fans for Families
Stan Moses was worried that the
extreme heat in June was causing
families extra hardship. He walked
into NFCC with a big smile and a
big stack of new fans which the case
workers quickly gave away. This
week, he called to see if more fans
were needed. Thank you, Stan.

A Volunteer Who Found Her Niche By Bebe Nicholson, Director of Thrift Shop Services It's not an accident that our thrift store jewelry sales have increased by 69% over the past year. The increase is a direct result of the hard work, dedication and time that Volunteer Leta Hughes spends sorting and pricing the necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, and watches that pour into our donation receiving area. Before NFCC had a "jewelry specialist," our jewelry went largely unpriced. Separating and pricing each item was far too time- consuming for our regular staff. Then Leta arrived on the scene and found her volunteer niche. She sets aside items that could be valuable, such as sterling or gold. Another volunteer Sylvia Patrick takes items these off site for appraisals. Leta tags and prices the remaining jewelry, which comprises the bulk of our inventory.
NFCC has an opportunity to help homeless Veterans living in area
hotels or other transient lodgings. If you know someone who may need
help, please contact Ann.

This summer, Leta enlisted the help of her daughter, Susan. The two of them have worked diligently on our jewelry, with the result being that we have a nice selection to fill our jewelry case and interest our customers. Leta even prepares "grab bags" and a jewelry Dollar Tree for those who really want a bargain.
