Government guidance

(issued on Wednesday

26th August) outlined

the principles for the the

wearing of face masks in

corridors and communal

areas in schools and

Colleges, as an additional

measure to reduce the

risk of spreading the virus

in a school or College

environment, where social

distancing is more difficult.

This means:

• You must wear a face

mask when moving between

classrooms and when going to

lessons

• You must wear your face mask

in communal areas such as the

LRC and Study Centre, unless a

2 metre social distance can be

respected in these communal

areas

• Wearing a face mask in the

classroom is optional

• You must also wear your face

mask on College buses, in a

shared car or when travelling on

public transport

We will provide you with a

reusable face mask. Should you

forget your face mask, you can

purchase a disposable one from

the main reception, and from the

Student Help desk in the LRC at a

cost of 50p.

We really recommend that

you carry a spare, clean

face mask so that you

are prepared!

It can be challenging to get used to

wearing a face mask. Here are some tips

for making the transition:

• Start slow. Wear your face mask at

home for a short time. Slowly increase

the time until you feel more comfortable

• Find your fit. If your face mask isn’t

comfortable or is too difficult to breathe

through, consider an alternative mask.

Face masks come in a variety of styles

and sizes

• Tie one on. Instead of a face mask, try

a scarf or a bandana to cover your nose

and mouth

Please note: face masks should not be worn

by anyone who has difficulty breathing.

If this applies to you, please speak to your

Progress Tutor about a suitable alternative

Here are a few pointers for how to wear a face

mask safely:

• Wash or sanitise your hands before and after putting

on and taking off your face mask

• Place your face mask over your mouth and nose

• Tie it behind your head or use ear loops to make sure

it is snug

• If you accidentally touch your face mask, wash or

sanitise your hands

• If your face mask becomes wet or dirty, switch it to a

clean one. Put the wet or dirty mask in a sealed plastic

bag until you can wash it

• Remove the face mask by untying or lifting off the ear

loops without touching the front of the mask to your

face

• Wash your hands immediately after removing your

mask

• Regularly wash your face mask with soap and water

by hand or in the washing machine. You can include your

mask with your regular laundry

adjusting to wearing

• If you can, please walk,

cycle or get dropped off at the

College by a household member

• If you need to use public

transport to get to the College,

please follow carefully the

government guidelines

for doing so, including the

mandatory

wearing of a face covering

• If you have passed your

driving test, and plan to drive to

College, please remember that

ideally you should not car share

with anybody else outside of

your household. If you do need

to car share with others outside

of your household, please keep

the car windows open, and wear

a face covering

• Please park your car facing

the College building. This will

ensure that all drivers parking

at the College will exit from

the same side of their vehicles,

and so can maintain a social

distance from other drivers,

from the point of arrival at the

College

• Please note, if you travel

to and from College on a

College bus, this is a dedicated

transport service, so the social

distance measure does not

apply. Ways we are asking you

to help everyone to stay as safe

as possible include by:

• Maintaining a social distance

from others while queuing and

boarding the bus and whilst on

the bus wherever possible

• Wearing a face covering

(unless exempt)

• Keeping the windows open to

maximise ventilation

• Disembarking via a ‘last on

first off’ system : front to back

lower floor: front to back upper

floor. Be patient and maintain

a social distance, wherever

possible, while disembarking

• Sanitising your hands on

arrival in the main reception

The bus driver will remain

behind a screen at all times

Our bus companies are also

helping to keep you as safe

as possible by:

• Cleaning the bus touch

points after your journey

• Cleaning the bus

overnight and ‘fogging’ it

every 28 days

• Ensuring that the bus

driver remains behind a

screen at all times

Page 7: TOGETHER - files.schudio.com€¦ · Wear fresh clothes each day to College Stay at home Stay at home if you have a Covid 19 symptom (continuous cough, high temperature, loss of sense

• Please enter by the main

entrance only, adhering to the

social distancing markings, as

necessary

• Please wear a face mask. If

you have forgotten to bring a

face mask, you can purchase a

disposable one for 50p at the

main reception or LRC help

desk

• Please sanitise your hands

using the hand sanitiser

provided (foot operated in the

main entrance)

• Please sanitise or wash your

hands before you return from

break, when you change rooms;

and before and after eating

• A one way system for

movement inside, and between,

the College buildings is in place.

Please follow the one way

system at all times

• Please walk to the left, as you

follow the one way system

• Please try to walk behind

others, and maintain a social

distance from others, wherever

possible

• Please walk to the left and

behind others on stairwells,

maintaining a social distance,

wherever possible

• In the event of a fire

evacuation, please use the fire

exit closest to you, and make

your way to your designated

safe fire point. At this fire

point, please try to maintain a

social distance from others, as

possible

and before and after eating;

foot operated hand sanitiser

stations will be available in

Reception, hand sanitiser

stations will be available

throughout the College

buildings, hand sanitiser will

be available in classrooms and

soap and water will be available

in all toilets

You will be encouraged to

sanitise or wash your hands

more often than usual. You

should wash your hands for at

least 20 seconds. Paper towels

will also be provided. Please dry

your hands on the paper towels

provided, and dispose of these

in the lidded bins provided

• Good respiratory hygiene will

be promoted through the ‘catch

• Windows will be kept open

around College to promote air

circulation

• Government guidance advises

that freshly washed clothes

should be worn each day to

College, as the virus can live up

to three days on fabric. You will

be encouraged to follow this

advice

The NHS advise you wash your

clothes on 40 or 60 degree wash

with a bleach based laundry

product.

distance from you

• If your teacher needs to come

closer to you than this during a

lesson, they will limit any closer

contact to a maximum of 15

minutes

• Any social distance will not

apply if you have learning needs

which mean that you need close

support in a classroom setting.

This support can be provided as

normal. Your Student Support

Please note: that this

information is fully in line with

the latest guidance from the

DfE, published on 18th August

2020. The Covid-19 pandemic

situation however, is a rapidly

developing situation, and it may

be necessary for us to update

this detailed guide from time to

time, as the DfE guidance

changes – we will provide you

with any such updates in a

timely manner.

• If you display any of the Covid

19 symptoms whilst in College:

- a high temperature

- a new continuous cough

- a loss of, or change in, your

sense of taste or smell

you must go to Reception and

inform the receptionist who will

call a First Aider

• You will be asked to wait for

the First Aider in the First Aid

room next to Reception

• The first aider will arrive in

full PPE

• They will arrange your prompt

and safe return home, if you

are well enough to return

home. This cannot be on public

transport.

• If you are seriously ill, they

will call 999

• Once home, you are required

to follow the Government‘s

guidance for households

with possible or confirmed

coronavirus infection and

to self- isolate for 10 days (

members of your household

must self-isolate for 14

days from the time you first

exhibited your symptom/s) and

you should arrange to have

a test to see if you have the

coronavirus

• You must inform the

College of the outcome of the

Coronavirus test:

- if you test positive, so that

the College can follow Public

Health England local health

protection team advice, as

appropriate

- if you test negative, so that

opportunity
