Toddler’s appetite decreases, so weight gain slows
“Picky eaters!” Over time, toddlers will meet their food needs
Self feeding is important
Adults must provide food that is nutrient dense
Offer nutritious foods first, so they fill up on them (not vice versa)
Avoid adding salt or sugar Introduce foods in intervals (every 3
days) Mash or cut foods Giving them choice or having them “help” willMake them more likely to eat it
Avoid popcorn, grapes, peanut butter, hotdogs, raw carrots small and hard candies
What do you do if they are coughing? What if they aren’t breathing?
Children’s meals should be at the same time every day
Do not force them to eat foods they don’t like
Good habits begin early!
Small child= small tummy! Do not expect a small child to eat as much food as a grown up!
Eat the RAINBOW!- large variety of foods!
