President Tracy Gomes opened the meeting. The invoca-tion was given by Richard Stan-ford, and Ann Harper was our song leader. Bob Dill introduced

UP first responder, Assistant Fire Chief Shane LeCroy. Shawn Foster announced our Mar-ketplace advertiser. President Tracy called on PP Karen Farris to introduce the nomina-ting committeeʼs proposed slate of officers and directors for our next rotary year 2017-18.

working right alongside our Interact kids. You will find the link to register on the Home page in the left hand column.

Make note of a District wide service acti-vity on Saturday, Oct. 29 with the Salvation Army. We will be working alongside other dis-trict club members making Angel Tree Kits.

Another Dallas Rotary Core activity will be Thursday, Nov. 10 at 5:30 p.m. It will be a Hap-py Hour at Sambucaʼs on McKinney to Cele-brate Democracy. Our last bit of Club news came from Tania Boughton with an exciting update on the Sni-der Plaza Tree Lighting project on Nov. 20th.  We received approval for the first ever bever-age garden and a stage for music, and she has received a sponsor for both. PP Fred Brown with Stephanie Bohan shared the success of last Saturdayʼs service day at the Agape Clin-ic for our Dentistry with a Heart project. Our program in conjunction with the Baylor School of Dentistry provided $28K worth of free den-tistry. Our program is now aligned with the Agape Clinic so the individuals can go back again for follow-up care. We have members Moody Alexander, Michael Rainwater and Roy Washburn to thank for initiating this on-going project for our club.

Stephanie Bohan announced that the Dentistry with a Heart program will be honored at the Agape Clinicʼs Annual Gala on Nov. 5th at the Arboretum. Seats are still available if you would like to attend. The club is now filling its third table. Contact Stephanie.

Tim Keenan reminded us of our next service project with the NTFB, Packing Day on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 1:00-3:30 p.m. with an after party at Ojedaʼs. Tim says we are trying to reach 100 volunteers so register your fami-ly and friends (over 10 years old).  We will be

Tania if you want to help.Chair of the Day, PE Pam Car-

vey introduced our speaker, Lily Cab-atu Weiss, Executive Director of the

Dallas Arts District. She gave a wonderful overview of the transition through time of the land that became todayʼs Arts District. Ross Avenue was a long strip of car dealer-ships, and all the Arts were at Fair Park. When the Dallas

Museum of Fine Art moved to Ross Avenue, the dream of the Arts District began. No one would ever have believed we would have yoga in Klyde Warren Park on Saturday mornings.  Now we have over 3 million visitors a year. The Arts District leaders are currently looking for ways to make it easier to get around, come in, stay and get out easily.  Lily told us to look for free Community Block Parties in the Arts District, two or three times a year. She has a personal goal to provide more free events, world class events.  She also mentioned the free event this weekend, Prelude, with Brave Combo and outdoor light sculptures set up throughout. with many

towel me dry and bring me my robe. Then, you will massage my feet and hands. Then tomorrow, guess who's going to dress me and comb my hair?"

The wife replied, "The funeral director would be my first guess."

THOUGHTS ON . . .

Noble life demands a noble archi-tecture for noble uses of noble men Lack of culture means what it has always meant: ignoble civilization and therefore imminent downfall.

~ Frank Lloyd WrightArchitecture is one part science, one part craft and two parts art.

~ David RuttenA truly great book should be read in youth, again in maturity and once more in old age, as a fine building should be seen by morning light, at noon and by moonlight.

~ Robertson DaviesThe physician can bury his mis-takes, but the architect can only advise his client to plant vines - so they should go as far as possible from home to build their first buildings. ~ Frank Lloyd Wright
