Page Caching – new default setting in CQ
Page Caching = static copies of pages stored on the web server for quick retrieval.
To improve site performance we changed settings
The server now saves and uses a static cached copy of a page for up to 3 days, unless the page is activated in Author
Static means that content lists on a page (such as a Documents tab page) do not update as new content is added
Example – How this impacts author workflow: You’ve Made an Update to an Existing Document Page
1) Activate Document Page

2) Activate Overview Page

3) Activate Documents Tab Page
Page Caching – new default setting in CQ
Alternative for active content areas: add a tag to an aggregation page to turn off caching on that page
This should only be pages where you are doing a lot of adding or updating of content.
Balance between fast page load for visitors and extra steps for authors
We can set this up for you – let us know what pages you would like to have tagged.
URL Redirects
It’s a new year! It’s a good time to make updates to pages/materials referencing old URLs.
Please work to make updates to out-of-date URLs on other websites, materials, etc
If you can’t make updates to URLS on external websites or printed materials, please verify that the URL redirects still work, let us know if they don’t
As a starting point, WJ is now posting the monthly aggregation of free CE opportunities put together by Jamie Markus, Library Development Manager, Wyoming State Library. Thanks Jamie!
Want to add to this list? Please post through the WJ Partner Listserv ([email protected])We’ll include listings received by the last Friday of the month to this page

Why these working groups?
• Grow WebJunction catalog offerings
• Respond to changes in online training
• Identify new ways to “not reinvent the wheel”
• Benefit from open & collaborative partnerships
What we know about learning content today
The traditional self-paced course environment has changed
Online training is on the rise, and face-to-face is on the decline
States, regions, and library support organizations have already produced a lot of online learning content, and plan to create more
Content creators are open to coordinating their work and sharing their content with library staff beyond their state/region
Online training will continue to evolve, and we need to be able to adapt
What: explore new training formats and discoveries about learning
Why: to address the need for current, engaging, and easy-to-access training content
How: collaborate on exploration and application of new ideas to enhance engagement and learning
BETHA working group lead (SHARON and DALE)Partners: Jennifer Birnel – WJ Montana, Ann Roberts – WJ Missouri
New Training Formats
What we did: Phone conversation with Ann and Jennifer Betha’s ongoing research
What we are learning: Ideas for a basic library skills package (AR) Online learning still new to many (including presenters) Think beyond the lecture format Live, online training with pauses for hands-on (JB) Find format to fit the need
New Training Formats
What: enhance webinar archives.
Why: provide certificates to affiliated members for viewing archives and to create opportunities for webinar programming to be built into training programs more easily.
How: include in course catalog, get your input on format and enhancements.
JENNIFER working group lead (DALE)
Webinar Archives
What we’ve done: • Staging 5 WJ webinars to pilot archives hosted in catalog, with
attendance credit model.• Gathered input from partners who tested these.• Worked to find best tools and to understand the time it takes to
package these in catalog.• Identified additional webinar providers and confirmed permission to
add relevant webinars to catalog: InfoPeople, TechSoup, ALCSTS
What’s next:• Finalize process for importing.• Identify content gaps.• Identify additional WebJunction webinars and those from other
providers to host in catalog.
Webinar Archives
Sourcing New Content
What: identify sources of high quality library-specific training content
Why: to address the demand for this needed content
How: share and explore available options and define the steps needed to adapt content for a nationwide audience
Jean Morrison, WJ-Missouri, Jeanna Vahling, WJ-Illinois, Emily Schaber, WJ-IndianaWJ Staff: Kathleen, Sharon and Betha
What we’ve done• 2 online meetings to explore known content providers and discuss
needs at a state or system level• Shared first prototype of WJ webinars to pilot archives hosted in
catalog• Reviewed content gaps now that UNT LE@D content is gone• Identified relevant webinars from WJ, InfoPeople TechSoup, ALCSTS to
fill those content gaps
What’s next• Continue to source non-WJ webinar archives – we’ll be seeking input
from this working group and beyond about stand-out archive content that exists today
• Define a process and a template that can help us help you surface content into the LMS

Tag Taxonomy
Progress report:
Ahniwa, Sharon, and Megan met via WebEx on December 19th to go over our approach to determining tags for content. The group discussed the excellent groundwork that Sharon had laid for choosing tag keyword, and divvied up the content in webjunction.org “Explore Topics” to see what tags weren’t needed and what additional tags might be required. The group met again on January 16. Tag development is progressing well. Ahniwa will finish composing a list of suggested tags based on WebJunction content and share with his group prior to the next meeting.
