• You have three minutes to review your notes from last class.

• You are to envision yourself as a Maori from the period of 1949-1960. Tell me something relating to your social, political or economic life. You may also name important leaders or events of significance to you.

• When I say, we will form two lines across from each other outside. I will walk through the two lines and as I stop on each person in line, you will give a statement to express your feelings/attitudes during this period.

NZ Maori CouncilNZ Maori Council• In 1962 the National government passed the Maori

Welfare Act. NZ Maori Council formed from this act. • Responsible for advising, and raising government

awareness of issues that would improve social and economic conditions for Maori (housing, health, employment, education).

• National encourages Non–tribal arguing that it is more effective

• National also preferred conservative Council Members. This meant that the influence of Maori who opposed its policies was reduced.
