What is in a cigarette?• Nicotine-

– Highly addictive, naturally in tobacco– Raises heart rate and blood pressure and breathing rate– May cause sweating, nausea and diarrhea

• Tar– Thick, sticky fluid produced when tobacco is burned– Starts as a gas, then becomes solid in lungs– Coats lungs so oxygen can’t be used by body– A carcinogen- it causes cancer
