Excellence in Security Technologies

The security technology landscape is rapidly evolving. Post 9/11 and 26/11, there has been a lot of effort in the homeland security forces around the world, in moving towards prevention of crime with the help of technology. While there has been some justifiable success in this effort, there is a widespread belief that security technologies are not yet completely tuned to the demands of security forces as they mitigate, tackle and investigate crime.

When we look at India and even the sub-continent at large, security technologies and their applications, are yet to attain the maturity that more advanced nations have experienced. This has a lot to do with the lack of training and local research. As the first association of security consultants, SECONA is trying to help the security technology industry in these two areas.

I welcome all the participants of this unique meet - a meeting of minds in a manner of speaking. I hope the two days of intense discussions and demonstrations will help all the assembled experts in their quest for knowledge and also improve collaboration and sharing within all the important stakeholders of the industry.

SECONA - the Security Consultants’ Association - is the first association in

India which has created a unique platform for independent security

consultants. The Indian security industry is growing fast & strong. However,

the industry faces several challenges. Established in 2012, SECONA intends

to provide a collaboration platform for like-minded security professionals to

come together and tackle these challenges.

ASTRA - the Academy of Security Technology, Training, research &

Application - is a pathbreaking initiative of SECONA, established for the

SECONA has instituted the annual SHIELD awards, to recognise excellence in

the field of security & safety technologies, in partnership with Secutech

India. The highly acclaimed first edition of the SHIELD awards was held on

13th March 2015 in Mumbai. SHIELD Awards will be conducted in April 2016

in Mumbai, during the Secutech India exhibition. To enquire or participate,

The Annual Security Consultants’ Meet (ASCM) is the annual event

organised by SECONA to being together the stakeholders in the security

technology industry and brainstorm on various issues. The ASCM 2015 in

Colombo is one of the largest security consultant meets held in the Indian

sub-continent.

Sudhir Deshpande, Director, MIPL, and Secretary, SECONA

Sudhir is a leading consultant in India in the field of security management, including large CCTV systems, access control technologies and emergency and disaster management preparedness. For the past 20 years, he has been actively advising large corporations on networking, communication and security management projects. He has been involved in several large security implementations including the award winning Nanded Safe City Project, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Nashik, Godhra, Dahod and Bharuch. Sudhir completed his electronics engineering from JNEC Aurangabad in 1990.

Prasad Patil, Director, MIPL, and Vice-Chairman, SECONA Prasad is one of the leading security consultants and safe city experts in India. He has more than 18 years of experience as a consultant in information technology and security management. In 2014, Prasad was shortlisted as a finalist for the Global Security Excellence Awards 2014, in London, in the category of the “Security Consultant of the Year”. He completed his mechanical engineering from the College of Engineering, Pune iand then received an MBA from the prestigious IIM Bangalore. He is the Founder Trustee in Aatman Academy, a school for children with learning disabilities.

Purvesh Gada, Jt. Secretary, SECONA, is a hard core professional with 13 years of qualitative experience in various command, staff and operational appointments with the Indian Army and major corporates. In the Armed Forces he was involved in operational roles in Counter Insurgency areas and various other staff duties. Purvesh has a vast experience in electronic security industry in specializing in projects ranging from City Surveillances to protection of defense assets as well as soft targets like temples and schools. Purvesh has done his Bachelors of Commerce from Mumbai University and the Post Graduate Certificate Course in Business Management from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies. He is also certified in ISO 31000, which covers Risk Management.

SECONA 2nd Annual Security Consultants Meet (ASCM-2013)The 2nd Meeting of SECONA was held in Delhi in Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort in Greater Noida. The meeting was attended by leading Security Consultants from India. SECONA is formed to work as a self-regulatory body of Indian Security Consultants, with the aim to elevate the respect for, and promote the welfare of all its members through the enhancement of their knowledge, skills & professionalism. During the meeting, it was decided to set-up a State-of-the-Art Training Academy (to be named as “Academy for Security Technology Training, Reasearch & Application” or SECONA-ASTRA) in Mumbai that would function as a Center of Excellence-cum-Experience Center for all the Security Technologies. It was also decided to launch various security certification programs. The SECONA website www.secona.org was inaugurated in the hands of Mr. Prasad Patil, Vice-chairman, SECONA.

The 3rd Annual Security Consultants Meet was held at ' The Park', Navi Mumbai, on 07th November 2014, by Secona. The meet was attended by over 25 leading security consultants from all over India. The traditional lamp was lit by Mr. D. Sivanandhan, (IPS Retd.) Chairman, Secona; Mr K.L. Prasad, (IPS), Hon. Commissioner of

Police, Navi Mumbai, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest; Mr. Prasad Patil, Vice-Chairman, Secona; Mr Sanjith Bardhan, Regional Director, EMEA, Arecont Vision and Mr. Purvesh Gada, Jt. Secretary, Secona, thus inaugurating the meet. Delivering the keynote address, Mr. K.L Prasad stressed the importance of R&D and use of technology for prevention and detection of crime and pledged support to the several activities and initiatives planned by Secona. Mr. D. Sivanandhan had everyone spellbound with his presentation on risks & threats in India. He gave a detailed account of how and why security professionals in India must be aware, prepared and creative in the use of security technologies.

SECONA ASTRA was launched on 31st March 2014, by Shri D. Sivanandhan, (IPS retd.), ex-CP Mumbai and ex-DGP Maharashtra, one of the most illustrious IPS officers of India. Speaking on the occasion, he stressed the need for a systematic training programme for security technology and mentioned that all the security forces in the country need to be trained on how to effectively use security technology that gets deployed but rarely utilised. He also urged the several security industry representatives present on the occasion to contribute to the cause propagated by SECONA and ASTRA.

He held a number of prestigious appointments during his tenure of 21 years in the Army and was also involved in raising of strategic forces. He was last associated with the Intelligence Directorate wherein he handled projects at the International level.
