your gifts for this Christmas Season and
the year to come”. May the message of
love and brotherhood spread to every cor-
ner of the world all through the coming
New Year. The infant’s hands that were later nailed to a rugged wood-
en cross are the hands that so often lovingly reach down and pick us
up during the difficulties of life. While celebrating the festive lets intro-
spect ourselves how far we have reached out our helping hands to the
needy in the society.
JVS together with all its committed staffs and supporters works with
specific motive to bring relief to communities those are oppressed and
to bring up children and youngsters with disability to lead a dignified
life. Following the footprints of Christ’s Values we are making every
earnest effort to create an inclusive society where all can experience
the justice, equality and brotherhood entitled to every citizen in the
country by its very constitution.
Herein we share with you the Bulletin which will showcase the efforts of
JVS during the last quarter. While we ask your continued support and collaboration to make this world a better
place for all to live in I also take this opportunity to thank you for your encouragement and support without
which we would not be able to achieve all these.

Jan Vikas Samiti in collaboration with Volunteers Group Japan has made
efforts to support children with physical disabilities by distributing 90 im-
ported special wheel chairs. We are happy to share that two persons viz.
Tomoyuki Katano and Takao Akine from Japan came all the way to wit-
ness the occasion.
Mr. Katano from Volunteers Group Japan expressed his happiness and great satisfaction in observing the
work of JVS-LF for the children with disabilities. He also shared that he would be happy to extend collabo-
ration with JVS in future. A PPT presentation presented by Takao Akine gave us a clear picture of what is
Volunteers Group Japan and how they collaborate with different organization of 22 countries.
On 10th September JVS in collaboration with Vishwa
Jyoti Gurukul organized Girl Child Day at the premises
of Vishwa Jyoti Gurukul Christ Nagar on the theme
“lEeku ,oa vf/kdkj”. The event was inaugurated by Fr.
Alex by flagging off the rally. More than four hun-
dred children from various schools and nearby villag-
es marched towards the venue with lots of enthusi-
asm. The slogans echoed the family staying near by
the road side. A short orientation session on the im-
portance of rights, respect and various problems
that girl children face in the family and in the society
was conducted. The cultural programme began with
a prayer song followed by lighting of the lamp by the
esteemed guests present on the dais.

And Keynote speaker elaborately spoke on the
theme set for the day. It is girls who are bringing
pride to the family either through education or
their respect for elders. To make this day more
successful we had so many teachers from various
schools and other local participants came to wit-
ness the occasion. Various cultural programmes
like dance, songs and short plays elated the day.

Wheel Chair Distribution Ceremony
Jan Vikas Samiti in collaboration with Caritas India, had worked earlier
for the relief of the people affected by natural disaster in Bihar in 2008.
This year again this collaboration renewed with yet another project to
support people affected by flood in the district of Mirzapur, UP. 200 affected families in five Panchayats of
Shikhad block were provided with Wash Kit (Ashray Kit) in particular to women. Another 200 affected poor
farmers were provided with Livelihood kit. In view of the supporting the farmers’ nutrition scientists from
national agriculture research center Varanasi were invited to train the farmers for an effective cultivation.
On witnessing the need of clean drinking water the project took effort to train 15 persons from the respec-
tive panchayats to repair the hand pumps. Each panchayat is provided with 2 repairing tools kit to make the
resource available for the villagers when they are in need.

On 7th October 6 visitors namely Fr. Jose Antonio Alvarez, Laura Gas
Con, Encarnacion Perez, Wanda Cathy paredez, Roberto Parra and
Josefina Dominguez from Manos Unidas Spain made their Annual eval-
uation visit to Jan Vikas Samiti. The day was well organized by JVS. The
donors were pleased to see the difference that has come into the lives
of the people as a result of project implementation.
JVS organized a short programme in view of facilitating the guests. They were welcomed with garlands
and a group dance by the children from Muskan day care center. Fr. Alex showcased the implementation
and the outcome of the project (Community mobilization and safe motherhood) through a power point
presentation. The donors were much pleased with the activities that are being done through the commit-
ted staff of JVS.
Project Monitoring Visit by Manos Unidas
The kiran Gramin Coaching and Vocational Training
Centre is a project of JVS, initiated by a DPO, working
for the development of the poor and deprived
section of people in eight panchayats in Harahua
Devlopment Block, Varanasi. To be precise, the
project aims to work for the education, empower-
ment, rehabilitation of persons with disabilities, and
skill development that enables everyone to have a
place in the society. With the above activities we
want to bring a social change in favor of the poor
and the marginalized in the area where the project is
implemented.
Kiran Gramin runs an inclusive coaching center and is
working hard
to bring differ-
ence in the
lives of the
deprived
children of the
target villages by providing quality education. Taking
this into account, Kiran Gramin school provides edu-
cation up to grade four in the close vicinity of around
seven villages. There are 72 children who attend
their regular studies in this center. We have 5 teach-
ers who are very committed to teach their students
for their over-all development and progress.

Jan Vikas Samiti in collaboration with Vishwa Jyoti Gurukul Christnagar
made this day a colorful one for the persons with disabilities on the UN
Theme “Achieving Seventeen goals for the future we want”. To mark
this day, about 550 persons with disabilities from various parts of East-
ern UP and Bihar came to partake in the programme. The day was
made remarkable by organizing several sports events in the morning and a colorful cultural meet in the
forenoon.
The day was inaugurated at 10.30 AM. A spectacular march past by children and youngsters with disabili-
ties invoked a patriotic feeling and sports man spirit to the event. The day progressed with sports events.
The cultural gathering was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp. Rev. Fr. Alex IMS, the director of Jan Vikas
Samiti presented the welcome note to the chief guest and guest speakers with shawls and bouquet. The
Cultural programme became more vibrant with a fabulous group performances.

Tuberculosis is one of India's major public health problems. WHO esti-
mates, India has the world's largest tuberculosis epidemic. Eradication of
TB is one of the most important focus areas of the government and of
JVS as well. JVS in collaboration with government is making effort to
eradicate the disease of tuberculosis in the rural areas of Harruaha and
Pindra block. In our strive towards this ongoing project we have achieved a satisfactory result in helping
the poor people with diagnose system and medication. JVS has succeeded in reaching out to more than
900 families during the last three months in the form of door to door survey.
Eradication of Tuberculosis
Muskan day care center is a special unit of JVS. It imparts a special edu-
cation to the children with multiple disabilities. 25 children with multiple
disabilities benefit from this special unit. The unit also includes a thera-
py unit in which children from the CBR are brought for regular thera-
peutic interventions. The institution imparts education with different
modules to make the children understand the concepts. The objective
of this education is to help the children to be part of mainstream society. JVS has succeeded in helping
out these children to get admission in regular schools. Regular parents’ meetings are organized to check
with the progress of the children. Over all we have witnessed tremendous growth of the children. They
have participated in various cultural gatherings organized by JVS.
Muskan Day Care: A school with a great Difference
Jan Vikas Samiti was privileged to have a senior delegation consists of
CEO, Board members and Programme Mangers from LF Head Office in the
month of November at the centre. The purpose of the visit was to ob-
serve the activities of Jan Vikas Samiti as SPO; the delegation also extend-
ed their visit to some of the POs of Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal to ex-
plore more about the implementation of the project. The donors were welcomed with a short cultural pro-
gramme in which JVS elaborated its project implementation policies through a short video clipping. The
Group was delighted to visit the SPO and PO activities with regard to CBR. They appreciated the team for
the meaningful work which is bringing quality in the life of Children and youngsters with disabilities.

Blind Walk campaign in Varanasi
13th October 2016 was a special day for the people of visual impairment.
Jan Vikas Samiti along with likeminded organizations took initiative to or-
ganize the day in the city of Varanasi. Thousands of children from various
institutions participated in the campaign . The normal people were blind-
folded and was lead by the special children. The campaign was organized
by a Bangalore-based NGO ‘Project Vision’ in 55 different locations in five
countries. The march began from a specific location and the people walked all through blindfolded to the
destination. The walk ended with most participants pledging to donate their eyes and to work as vision am-
bassadors in the society to make easy the process of eye donation.

Café Ability : Livelihood initiative by JVS
Café Ability is a new initiative of JVS, working for the economic
empowerment of the youngsters with disabilities. Café Ability, a
mini restaurant cum coffee shop, where selected youngsters with
disability are provided on-the-job training in hospitality sector.
Café Ability will strengthen youngsters with disabilities by
providing relevant training and also helping them to find job in the hospitality industry. The concept will
also enhance social acceptance for this vulnerable target group. Another distinctive social feature is the
focus on fair trade products. Presently it is helping 14 youngsters with disabilities in offering them liveli-
hood opportunities through the training in Hospitality industries. They will be given opportunity to
choose their career in the same regard as per their interest.
Community mobilization and Safe motherhood is a pioneering project of Jan
Vikas Samiti. JVS aims to reduce maternal mortality rate in Harahua Develop-
ment Block in U.P and improve health system in the rural set up. The work also
aims to create awareness among the rural poor about their health and hygiene
as well as health rights. The objective of sensitizing 5000 rural women on safe motherhood is becoming actu-
alized with the efforts of JVS. JVS Team with full dedication and effort has succeeded in reaching out to peo-
ple through different approaches. It organizes street plays every month to sensitize the common people who
do not have any knowledge about their living standards. The project also conducts regular meeting and follow
-ups in bringing down the maternal mortality in the area. We take pride in sharing that we have reached
out to more than 3500 families in programme villages to create health awareness. The ongoing process of
building a proper health system is the main struggle of the organization.
During the last quarter we have organized 3 health camps and 6 awareness trainings for adolescent girls
and 15 awareness programmes (Street plays) in 03 target panchayats.
Community Mobilization and Safe Motherhood
JVS- LF team makes the visits to its partner organization with the pur-
pose of monitoring and guiding the partners and training and capaci-
tating them on Community Based Rehabilitation, Programme Man-
agement and Inclusive Education, documentation of individual files of
children with disabilities and accounts. During the last quarter Mr Ro-
hit visited 6 partner organizations in northeast India and Mr. Chiranjeevi and Mr Vibin made visit to 3 part-
ner organizations in Rajasthan. JVS as an SPO, is very happy with the progress of the project.
