TRANSCRIPT

To the Students of UCD

A warm welcome from the Career Development Centre as we celebrate ten years of delivering Careers Fairs at UCD.

In recent days we have read that the economic recovery of Ireland has stalled, making Greece and Ireland the only two countries in the EU to experience negative economic growth in the last quarter. There can be no doubt that graduates face difficult times in sourcing and securing graduate level career opportunities BUT it is the case that many employers are recruiting and some are taking large numbers of graduates often from a diverse range of academic subject areas.

Our message to UCD’s students is to be proactive- ask questions at our Fairs, resist the temptation to simply collect recruitment brochures. Use tools such as Career Report (www.gradireland.com) to identify careers which may suit you and be creative in how you go about job searching. Networking, responding to advertised vacancies and accessing the hidden job market all have a part to play in effective job search.

The Career Development Centre has a small team of advisers and administrative staff who will help you to: • Make effective career decisions • Develop your employability skills • Access jobs and make effective job applications • Be successful at interview by developing your interview techniques • Prepare for graduate study and/or time out.

Whatever it is you intend doing when you complete your studies at UCD, we want to help you develop and implement your plan. Members of staff at the Career Development Centre wish you well and look forward to meeting you at the Fair and at our newly refurbished Centre which is situated on the ground floor of the main Library Building.

Best Wishes

Dr David FosterDirector - UCD Career Development Centre
