TO THE POINT Looking Ahead…and Behind By Pat Rooney, Community Manager 2016 promises to be a year of change. A new Umbrella Board will be in place with four new officers and seven of the nine Directors also being new members. Each Village will elect their Umbrella Director unless the term of the Director is not over yet. Sometime in February, the new Board will meet to discuss goals for 2016. The Strategic Planning and Development Committee (aka SPDC) will also swing into action in 2016 also. The committee will be instrumental in looking at the goals the Board establishes and how to implement them as well as ideas from other sources such as members of the community. Prioritization and funding will be key elements of review to assist the Umbrella Board to make decisions. The recently approved Umbrella budget is a lesser increase then in 2015. Most of the increase is due to cable costs, utility costs and irrigation water. You will receive a summary on the budget in December. The past two years have brought significant change to Providence Point. Many accomplishments have taken place. Both governance and operations continue to improve. The Board of Directors, Committee members, volunteers and staff remain dedicated to making Providence Point a great place to really live! Communiversity News“Communiversity classes here are just great,” saysDawn Nita Granath, a new resident since June.“What I like best is that you really get to know peoplehere quickly when you’re in class together. And I’mreally impressed by the instructors. They areengaging and excellent!” Indeed many residents sayCommuniversity is the reason they moved here.

Classes will begin Monday, Jan. 4. Watch for twonew classes The Native American in Film and ArtlessArt. “The latter class requires no talent,” saysCommuniversity Director Tony Curry, with a grin.

Because many residents are not yet retired, twoevening classes are offered: Tuesday Night at theMovies from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Clubhouse andRizzmic, a musical exercise class, on Thursday from5:30 to 6:15 p.m. in Collin Hall.

And, of course, many favorite classes are repeating.Among them U.S . History, South Africa, Art Talk,Genealogy, Computers, French, Geology, Fun withShakespeare, Creative Writing, Bridge, Drama(murder mystery), and the always popular discussionclass Views of the News. Exercise classes Zumba,Yoga, and NIA are also back.

Be sure to pick up your catalogs in the North andSouth Community buildings, in Town Hall, or in thelobbies of the larger residence halls. And don’t stopthere. Register early. Fill out the registration form onthe last page of the catalog and get it into the

All classesare free to residents as part of your homeownerdues, but if there is a fee for class supplies, pleaseinclude this with your form.

Library NewsIn fairness to all the residents, please take thetime to fill out the checkout card found in thepocket inside the front cover for each book. Byfilling out the card it helps us to keep the selectioncurrent and see what types of books and authorsyou prefer and keeps valuable shelf space frombeing taken up by duplicates. It reminds you if youhave already read the book. We all have “seniormoments”.

The King County Traveling Library comes to theProvidence Point Library the 3rd Wednesday ofeach month between 11:00 AM and 12:30 PM .You can order books from them either by phoneor computer and they will be delivered here. Youmust of have a King County Library card andregister with them for this service. The phonenumber is 425-369-3456.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as itmakes keeping up the library so much easier.

This past year theWoodinville Chapter made and delivered 4,556quilts to children in need of comfort. Recipientsincluded Seattle area hospitals, Baby Corner,family shelters, firehouses and others. Over thepast 8 years 35,527 quilts have been distributed.
