Friday 8:00 am – 2:00 pm
Saturday 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Sunday Closed
1) Lessons are presented on the computer. An instructor and tutors are available at any time in
the Mathematics Center for assistance.
NOTE: a. Supplementary material, such as computer lessons/drill and practice, for many
topics is easily accessible.
b. Digital videos of the lessons are available to students.
2) Each student is responsible to attend a designated number of hours per week in the Mathematics
Center: Math 60 students – 2 hours and 35 minutes per week.
These designated hours should be comprised of:
a. Watching math digital videos
b. Viewing the multimedia e-Text
c. Doing Homework assignments
d. Asking tutors and/or instructor questions
e. Taking online tests
f. Taking/reviewing written exams
3) In addition to the above, students are expected to study outside of the Math Center about 10
hours per week.
4) Students may accomplish the goals of each chapter on or before the deadlines.
5) Students must do assigned homework; take 5 online tests, 5 written exams, and a final exam to
earn a grade in Hybrid Math 60 course.
NOTE: A schedule of homework assignments and exams are given. If a student falls
behind the exam schedule, he/she could be dropped from the course.
Self-Motivation
If a student is not self-motivated he/she is likely to fall behind in this class.
Self-Discipline
A student should watch assigned digital videos, read e-text, and do assigned homework to get
ready for the online tests and written exams.
Good Time-Management Skills
Student should make a schedule for him/herself and follow the attendance, homework, and test
schedules.

Instructor:
Professor Fari Towfiq - Director of the Math Center
Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:
1. Formulate algebraic models to represent relations from tables, graphs, and problem situations.
2. Investigate and compare multiple representations of a function.
3. Analyze linear, quadratic, exponential, and logarithmic functions from graphic, numeric, and symbolic perspectives.
4. Analyze and solve linear and nonlinear systems of equations and inequalities from graphic, numeric, and
symbolic perspectives.
5. Solve application problems involving linear, quadratic, exponential, and rational relationships and interpret the solutions.
6. Identify and apply principles of algebraic manipulation necessary to rewrite expressions and equations in
alternate forms.
7. Apply critical thinking and mathematical reasoning skills necessary in algebraic problem solving and related
areas of endeavor.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs):
1. Applications of Functions:
Determine and implement an appropriate method of solutions for a variety of problems involving
contemporary applications of Linear, Quadratic, Exponential, Logarithmic, and Rational Functions.
Such applications include, but are not limited to Bacterial Growth, Exponential Decay, Earthquakes,
Compound & Simple Interest
2. Graphing and Problem Solving:
Graph Linear, Quadratic, Exponential, and Logarithmic Functions
Required Textbook:
Lial Intermediate Algebra 11e Access Code, Pearson/Addison-Wesley.
ISBN: 9780134764658
(e-book included/ INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA, 11th Edition, Lial/Hornsby/McGinnis)
Attendance: After registering for this class, be sure to log-in and out (using Palomar ID number) each time you attend
the Math Center.
Since Math 60 is a 4-unit course, it is essential that you budget minimum of 2 hours and 35 minutes
per week in the Math Center and at least 2 hours per week outside of the center for a total of 72 hours
for the semester. However, if you finish the course material in less than 72 hours, the attendance
requirement will be waived for the remainder of the semester.
If you are taking this class under the assumption that you do not need to attend the Math Center except for exams,
this is wrong, and you could be dropped for non-attendance.
If you decide to withdraw from the course, be sure to drop the class on e-Services. Do not expect the Math Center
Director to automatically drop you from the course.
If for some compelling reason you are absent, please inform the Math Center Director. Otherwise, you
could be dropped for non-attendance.
You may also receive attendance credit for working on course materials in MyMathLab at either Academic
Technology Lab, TLC/Escondido Center, TLC/Rancho Bernardo, TLC/Fallbrook, or Camp Pendleton Computer Lab.
All written exams must be taken at the Math Center on San Marcos Campus.
Note: Study time should not be limited to your Math Center hours. You are expected to study outside
of the Math Center.

Note: If you need to practice more, work on your study plan or exercises in your e-book at the end
of each section. Otherwise, just move on to the next section.
Note: Study plan is not part of your grade.
g. If you have any questions, please ask the tutors, instructional assistants, or instructors.
h. Continue steps a through g until you finish all the sections in the chapters pertaining to the exam
you are currently preparing for.
