Stewardess-nurseService

Stewardess-Nurse service is an "exclu-sive" on the Vista-Dome North Coast Lim-ited, insofar as the Chicago-North PacificCoast run is concerned. These winsome andefficient young women are registered nurses.They perform a wide variety of useful serv-ices for passengers. They also make peri-odic announcements of interest over thetrain public address system. I f you needthe services of the Stewardess-Nurse, pleaseask any member of the train crew to sum-mon her. Stewardess-Nurses do not accepttips.

Vista-Domes"The view is terrific on the Northern

Pacific," especially from the magnificentvista-domes on the train. Dome seats forcoach and Slumbercoach passengers areavailable ahead o f the dining car; f o rstandard sleeping car passengers, behindthe diner.

Each dome car has 24 seats in the domesection. These seats are not reserved andpassengers with coach or Pullman reserva-tions may enjoy them at no extra charge.

Smoking is permitted in all dome sec-tions but not in the main body of domecoaches.

SiumbercoachSomething new has been added! This

train now has in service, a sleek, new, stain-less steel, all-room Slumbercoach, designedto provide comfortable private room ac-commodations for travel between Chicagoand Seattle and intermediate points a tnominal cost with a coach ticket. Slumber-coach accommodates 40 passengers in 24single and 8 double rooms. Each singleroom has a comfortable seat, a single bed,wash basin, hot and cold water, full lengthmirror, luggage space and heat controls.Double rooms have two facing seats andtwo single beds. Each room has its own win-dow. F o r mother traveling wi th baby,there's an unique Slumbercrib, availablewithout extra charge, in single rooms only.Slumbercoach is located ahead of the reg-ular coaches.Food Service

In the dining car, near the center of thetrain, a la carte and club service providesthe finest of food at moderate prices. Break-fast begins at 7, luncheon at 12 and dinnerat 5, railroad (standard) time. Dinner isserved by reservation. Passengers on specialdiets wil l please make their requirementsknown to the dining car steward.

Fine food—snacks or complete meals—also is served at the counter in the fascinat-ing new Lewis and Clark Traveller's Restbuffet-lounge, which is just ahead of thediner. Service there is continuous from6:30 am to 10 pm.

Special Service For YoungstersFormulas for feeding infants will be pre-

pared b y the Stewardess-Nurse i n theTraveller's Rest car kitchen, and formulabottles wil l be stored under refrigerationeither in the dining car, the Traveller'sRest car or observation car, i f desired.

There's a special Children's Menu in thedining car. This car also carries strainedbaby foods and evaporated canned milk ina limited quantity.

BeveragesBeverages are served throughout the day

and evening in the Traveller's Rest Buffet.Lounge car and in the Pullman Observa-tion Lounge. Sale of alcoholic beverages issubject to state laws as follows:

Illinois and Wisconsin—No sales onelection days during time polls are open.

Minnesota—No sales on following daysbetween hours listed: Sunday-12:01 amto 8:00 am Monday; Memorial D a y -12:01 am to 3 pm; Election Days-12:01am to 8:00 pm.

North Dakota—No sales on Sundays,Good Friday, Memorial Day, election days,Christmas Eve after 8 pm or ChristmasDay.

Montana—No sales permitted on Sun-days until after 1 pm, or any election dayduring time polls are open.

"History Booh" on WI-1EckThe Lewis and Clark Traveller's Rest

buffet-lounge car, just ahead of the diningcar is a veritable "history book on wheels.Traveller's Rest was the name given by thefamed explorers to the favorite camp sitein western Montana, near Missoula. Color-ful wall murals depict scenes and show theroute of Lewis and Clark's journey fromSt. Louis to the Pacific and return. Colorreproductions of the famous Peale portraitsof Lewis and Clark and reproductions ofdocuments pertaining to the expedition alsoadorn the walls. Included in the historicalexhibit is a reproduction o f a Harper'sFerry flintlock rifle carried by members ofthe expedition and a peace pipe symbolicof the explorers' success i n establishingfriendly relations with the Indians. You'l lfind this method of studying history mostpalatable. T r y it. A l l passengers are in-vited to use its facilities.

Stamps, Mailing Letters,Sending Telegrams

Postage stamps may be purchased fromthe attendant in the Traveller's Rest car.Letters and cards may be mailed in theTraveller's Rest o r Observation cars, o ryou may hand them to the Pullman porter,the coach attendant or Stewardess-Nurse.

To send a telegram, obtain blank fromany crew member, who will dispatch yourmessage at any scheduled stop. For con-venience, telegrams should be sent collect.

Playing Cards—Tables for Cards

Playing cards are sold in the Traveller'sRest, Dining and Pullman Observation-Club cars. There are tables for cards in theTraveller's Rest Lounge and, for Pullmanpassengers, i n the Pullman ObservationLounge. Tables also are available for Pull-man rooms and a limited number for coachseats. Ask the ear attendant.

Help Yourself to LiteratureConveniently located i n racks i n the

various cars, is literature which is designedto contribute to the enjoyment o f yourtrip. For detailed information about thingsof interest along the way, we recommendthe Guide and for a skeleton schedule ofyour train, with brief description of thetrip, refer to "Schedule I n t e r e s t i n gHighlights."

Cigarettes and CigarsCigarettes and cigars may be purchased

in the Dining car and in the Pullman Ob-servation Lounge. Cigarettes are for salealso in the Traveller's Rest car.

Background Music and RadioSoft, soothing background recorded mu-

sic is played over the train public addresssystem during lunch and dinner hours.There also is radio reception in the Travel-ler's Rest, Dining and Pullman Observa-tion Lounge cars. Specific radio programsare available on request to the attendant.when reception permits.

Magazine Libraries and StationeryGuests will find a wide selection of cur-

rent magazines and local newspapers inthe lounges of the Traveller's Rest car andPullman Observation car. Both cars arestocked with writing paper and souvenirpost cards and there's a writing desk inthe Observation Lounge.

Want a Pillow?Pillows may be obtained from the coach

attendant i n the Seattle and Portlandcoaches for 25e per 24-hour period.

Baggage TransferPullman passengers may arrange with

porter before arrival in Chicago, St. Paul,Minneapolis, Billings, Spokane, Seattle orPortland for transfer of hand luggage fromtrain to station taxi stand, on payment ofprevailing Red Cap fee. Baggage carts areavailable (no charge) i n Chicago, Seattleand Portland for passenger to handle hisown baggage, i f desired.

Pullman passengers holding through tick-ets to destination east o f Chicago mayarrange with Railroad Transfer Service,on arrival in Chicago, for transfer of handluggage to the check room of station fromwhich departure will be made. The pre-vailing parcel check fee will be charged.
