CRE Task Force

The primary objective of the task force is to engage the entire Irvine Business community; By providing a resourceful web-based “interactive” landing page, capture important & useful data (i.e. key decision makers, location, lease/own, growth plans etc.), get qualitative feedback, and implement suggestions with the intent to develop a tool to assist new, existing & prospective businesses within community on all aspects of their commercial real estate & related needs. Irvine Chamber EVC and other committees will be an ongoing integral part of this engagement.

Page 19: To empower the Chamber’s capacity to influence Irvine’s competitiveness for new businesses in a global economy, improve business retention, expand and

Method The CRE Task Force plans to implement a three prong approach to meet its

initial objectives during first 90-days (June 30, 2015 deadline):

◦ 1. Develop specific website pages on the ED website geared towards the Irvine business community which will be available to the general public. The purpose is to engage and attract the maximum # of businesses in order to provide a “one-stop” shop for their entire business real estate needs and other related issues.

◦ 2. Set up an interactive user map to highlight major developments, support retail and general real estate market information and master calendar, which will display information on all events & functions pertaining to the business community in OC.

◦ 3. Prepare a Quarterly Newsletter (1st edition due by June 2015) with current matters in the business community and latest real estate developments, trends, effective rates/prices, and forecasting.

◦ 4. Prepare a “draft” Survey to be made available on the CRE Task Force Website, and delivered to the Irvine Business Community. The purpose of the survey will be to capture important information on business and key decision makers throughout the city. This will provide the CRE Task Force and EVC with quantitative & qualitative, useful information for future tasks and outreaches.

◦ 5. The CRE Task Force will attend all Business Attraction and Retention and other select ED & EVC Committee and task force meetings. Additionally, the CRE Task Force will participate and help assist with future business outreach campaigns.

Summary Conclusion As outlined herein, the primary objective of the CRE Task Force is to fill a need in the

overall Irvine Business Community on behalf of The Irvine Chamber of Commerce. We intend to provide all the necessary & useful tools, resources and data to the community in order to promote the many attributes and benefits of locating and doing business in Irvine.

We will primarily focus on the new “Start-Up” and existing business community within Irvine, with a keen eye on tracking every company’s requirements.

We will also design and implement an on-going campaign to reach out beyond our own borders, to neighboring cities throughout Orange County, Southern & Northern California, Western Region and United States as well as the International Business Communities. This will involve close collaboration with the International Task Force.

Irvine is the #1 Destination for many business’ of ALL types, from start-ups to Fortune Companies and International Businesses. We intend to lead the charge in delivering the message by forging an integrated team of highly motivated, skilled professionals within the Chamber to participate in this endeavor…

ValleyCrestDesignGroup hosted Northwood High School and Irvine Valley College students for a job shadowing day on Wednesday, April 1st from 2pm-5pm.

Overall, my job shadowing experience was: Excellent - 100%

I gained new insights & information that will help me in my future (career, academic and/or personal): Strongly Agree – 100%

Please describe what you gained from this job shadowing experience?

I learned how the skills that I have can be applied to something I never thought of doing as a career. I gained knowledge on how much effort and details go into planning communities and planting certain trees! Shaping experiences. I gained Auto CAD and awareness on programs the staff use. Environment is key and this place has a great environment.

How will you apply what you learned?

I will apply it to help guide my way through choosing a career path. I will apply the general knowledge I gained about working together and how to efficiently tackle big projects. By installing better irrigation in my garden. By going out and looking at park designs and feature of their development…looking at cities and how they are renovated/maintained is interesting. Lots of connections between companies. So many sectors of ValleyCrest

Page 69: To empower the Chamber’s capacity to influence Irvine’s competitiveness for new businesses in a global economy, improve business retention, expand and

How this Model Works•These Committees replace the traditional, discussion-led rather than action-led committee system with hard-working, time-dated, results-oriented, special interest-driven Task Forces.

• These Committees and Task Forces are designed to support action-oriented Task Forces that appeal to a wide portion of membership and engage them in specific work that interests and motivates them.

•These Committees are designed to attract and retain a constant flow of talent and expertise, generating good outcomes, constant debate and participation.

Page 70: To empower the Chamber’s capacity to influence Irvine’s competitiveness for new businesses in a global economy, improve business retention, expand and

Leadership•Listen to those who attend the committee and task force meetings, draw your inspiration for task forces, topics and issues from them.

•Task or ask – people want to work, put them to work!

•The real work of the Committees is being done in the Task Forces. So, give these hard-working volunteers the time and attention they have earned.

•Give Task Force Leaders sufficient time to report out their progress, present their work, progress, findings and recommendations.

Page 71: To empower the Chamber’s capacity to influence Irvine’s competitiveness for new businesses in a global economy, improve business retention, expand and

Responsibilities•Committee Chairs stay in touch with your Task Force leadership.

•Committee Chairs help identify resources or expertise.

•Task Force Leaders inform others about your work by completing a brief report with your progress so it can be posted online.

•Generate 3-5 Task Force report slides for the EVC Quarterly Meetings.

Wrap-Up It is important that Committees and Task Forces understand and appreciate that every task they perform, every piece of research they undertake or evaluate, every contact they make and every finding they deliver, greatly extends the capacity of the Chamber staff and our ability to positively influence the economic vitality of your business and the Irvine business community!
