sport, arts, culture and recreation, in partnership with Soweto-based event organisers Locrate Market and 7 Colours Sunday, treated Sowetans young and old to a fun-filled day of food, fashion, arts and music provided by local musicians.

“Through the Soweto Day festival, we have an opportunity to bring Soweto alive and positively impact its economy,” Gauteng MEC for sport, arts, culture and recreation Molebatsi Bopape said.

THIS high speed train thriller received a lot of praise from critics who singled out director Tony Scott and star Den-zel Washing-ton as Frank Barnes for praise. The film was even nominated for an Acad-emy Award for best sound editing. It is the sheer craftsmanship and visuals style sees the film cut across the rich world of chug-ging, rushing trains slicing across equally beautiful industrial and natural landscapes. The train is laden with toxic chemicals, and an accident would decimate human life and cause an envi-ronmental disaster if does not stop.

THERE are many life lessons in this funny and inven-tive dramedy which takes you to the dark days. The film stars Eddie Murphy as loud-mouth Harlem petty thief Ray, while fellow come-dian, Martin Lawrence stars as his friend Claude. The pair run into trouble when a crooked officer hits them with a phony murder charge and are given life sen-tences and shipped off to jail, where they must think of a way to prove their innocence and avoid the brutal guards while battling their biggest enemies – their opposing personalities.

The 11th season opened to 10.14 million viewers with a 3.1/11 Nielsen rating in the 18-49 demographic. With Season 11 being the first in Grey’s Anatomy history to be without Cristina Yang, TV.com wrote, “The question I had heading into Grey’s Anato-my’s Season 11 premiere was just how much Cristina’s absence would be felt. I think the show will be just fine.”

When ghostly pirate Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) comes to collect a blood debt, Capt Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) must find a way to avoid his fate lest his soul be damned for all time. Nevertheless, the wily ghost manages to interrupt the wedding plans of Jack’s friends Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley).

Me Myself and ireneM-Net Movies Romance (Dstv 107) at 9.55pmTHIS dirty, twisted and unrelenting comedy stars the hilarious Jim Carrey as Charlie Baileygates/ Hank Evans, the Rhode Island state trooper who, after years of continuously suppress-ing his rage and feelings, suffers a psychotic breakdown which results in a second personal-ity, Hank. The film had the biggest opening on the weekend of June 23, 2000 making $24.2m (R334m) in its opening weekend.

Monster’s BallAMC (Dstv 140) at 11.10pmMONSTER’S Ball is the 2001 Ameri-can romantic drama film that won Halle Berry an Acad-emy Award for best actress in 2002 for her performance. Roger Ebert gave the film four stars and said: “The movie has the complexity of great fiction” listing it as the best film of 2001. It is a hard-hitting southern drama tempered by a story of a life-changing love. It is the story of Hank (Billy Bob Thornton), an embittered prison guard working on Death Row who begins an unlikely affair with Leticia (Halle Berry), the wife of a man he has just executed.

Slim’s life seems idyllic until Mr Right turns into a monster when abusive behaviour forces her to go on the run, eluding an increasingly obsessive Mitch and his lethal henchman. The film is based on the 1998 novel Black and Blue, by Anna Quindlen.

great expectationsM-Net Movies Romance (Dstv 107) at 4.10pmGREAT Expecta-tions is a 2012 British film adaptation of Charles Dickens novel of the same name. The film stars Jeremy Irvine, Helena Bonham Carter, Holliday Grainger, Ralph Fiennes and Robbie Col-trane. While this adaptation has received a lot of criticism for not adding anything new to the meaty Dickens classic, the visual aspects of this classic deserve special mention as they enhance the viewing experience of what would have been an uneventful and dull film. It feels as if the cinematography and art direction are working to illustrate and expand on the writing.

We sat down with Okmalum-koolkat to find out more about his musical repertoire and his involvement in the Raw Boiler Room sessions.how was the stage name okmalumkoolkat con-ceived?It was influenced by my favour-ite Ukhozi FM DJ who had a show where toddlers would call the station to send shout outs to their friends and sing their favourite songs.

I think it’s probably one of the coolest concepts for a radio show.

I am sure he built a lot of characters’ esteems from that. I feel like I inspire the youth with my art too.what sets your sound apart?I listen to a variety of genres so I like to experiment. I think a lot of people living in 2015 like out-of-the-box music.

I work with a lot of different producers and this helps me master my craft.walk us through dur-ban’s unique gqom sound.Gqom is Durban’s home-grown drum driven dance music that’s making waves globally because of its unpar-alleled unique vibe.Tell us a bit more about your involvement with g-star raw and their Boiler room raw ses-sions: The Boiler Room is crazy because it’s streamed on the internet in real time during your performance so people worldwide are able to virtually connect with us.

G-Star Raw and I have a thriving work relationship. They once booked me to per-form for one of their collections in Johannesburg last year and we shot an interview at one of my shows in Amsterdam.

They later called me up to contribute to their art exhibi-tion, How We Wear Ours.

SOUTH African house music legend and 2015’s DJ Awards breakthrough artist of the year winner Black Coffee is celebrating his latest album, Pieces of Me, reaching platinum status by hosting a huge block party at the iconic Mary Fitzgerald Square in New-town, Johannesburg on December 12.

Pieces of Me is Black Coffee’s fourth studio album featuring the hit single We Dance Again, which was accompanied by a recent global dance challenge on social media.

The world-renowned producer will include mega mix maestro DJ Fresh in the electrifying line-up that features rapper Cassper Nyovest, Soulistic artist Da Capo, DJ’s SPHEctacula and Naves and a show stop-ping performance from Black Coffee himself.
