Why libraries are important to you!

• I believe that you are all free thinkers who can acquire accurate information from a variety of sources to make conscientious decisions.

• To do this you will need to be able to evaluate resources and use them ethically.

• Today I will work to get you started and look forward to working with you throughout your middle school career.

Using the Library Catalog

• Select Student Learning from the right-hand menu bar.

• Select the Catalog tab to begin searching for books.

• Type a keyword, title, author or series into the search bar and select the enter button on your keyboard to get your search results.

LIBRARY SEARCH:Use limiters to narrow your search and get the best results.

You can select the school site where the book is located, the reading level and the interest level.

Locating Books in the Library.

• Note the call number of the book that you select to check-out. Be sure it is available before going to the shelf to locate it.

Destiny Quest Feature: this is a visual search option.

Destiny Quest lists the top ten circulating items as well as new books and book lists.

Webpath Express instead of Google or Bing for searching online resources.

Webpath search results include a description, the website, a link directly to what you need and

the grade level appropriateness.

• GoTahoma Account = first initial, last name, last three digits of your student number• @gotahomasd.us• Password= your student number

This area has a quiet, cozy reading area as well as many magazines and new books for your browsing needs.

Fiction books are placed on the shelf alphabetically by author’s last name.

The Reference Collection begins at the ramp!

and winds its way around the instructional space of the library.

Nonfiction is in the center of the library.

These books are organized by subject and include a lot information about sports, pets, and other topics that you are interested in learning more about.

Biography Collection• Sits along the library door wall.

Books about famous people are along the wall that is adjacent to the hallway, over in the instructional space area.

Check out counter- please have library materials ready and your ASB card out.

If you don’t have your ASB card, clearly state your student ID number.
