March 2014 National Chevy AssociationTM 1
Hi from Nat’l. Chevy, It seems that the winter from you know where continues. We’ve barely seen 20° during the day and it al-ways drops below zero at night. We had another 5” of snow last week plus other smaller amounts so there is plenty of snow also. Our parking lot keeps getting smaller every time the guy who plows comes around. I’m not a kid anymore and I can’t remember a winter like this, or maybe I just didn’t mind it as much when I was younger. The grandkids have already had school cancelled four days just this year because of the cold. Just hoping for an early spring! We’re keeping busy as usual here and trying to finish off the catalog. It is almost there and I can’t wait ‘til it’s done. I would like to get it in our members’ hands ASAP. I would like to thank you for the articles you’ve been sending – I don’t have enough yet but what I’m re-ceiving I can certainly use. Some nice cars are coming up. Watch for them. We also have a great special on interiors this month so if you’re thinking about one see the ad below this column. ‘Til next time......

8 National Chevy AssociationTM March 2014
My name is Ron Knight. I am from Shelbyville, Indiana. I bought my 1954 in July of 2012, for $4,700 in Grant County, the county that James Dean was born in. This is my third ‘54 that I have owned. In 1969, I was 14 when I traded my older brother a shot gun for it. It was not running with a blown engine. I didn’t have it very long, but I did own it. In 1984, I did some work for a neighbor and he gave me a ‘54 shell on wheels. No motor, not trans, no interior, no chrome or lights, but the body was solid and it had good glass. I sold it a year later. I had my mind set that one day I will have and drive a 1954 Chevy. I found my third ‘54 in the Indiana Auto and RV Publication that is printed weekly. I showed the add to my wife and she said let’s do it, so I called a friend of ours, rented a car hauler and the three of us took a 70-mile road trip. The car was as solid as you could want, but it was another non-running ‘54, but this one did have the motor and trans but the engine had locked up 30 years ago. They pulled the car in the barn, took out the motor and trans, and set them on the floor and there it all sat for 30 years. Well, I bought it, I got it for $4,700. It cost $1,250 to have the engine rebuilt, $500 to go through the powerglide trans, but, after a new tank, brakes and all the lines and a lot of running around to find a few missing parts and my wife working the engine hoist and me under the car saying up, down, that way, no, that way – we are now driving our 1954 2-dr. BelAir.
