When the technicianis aidedbyoperators,he must warnthem about dangerous areas. Wheneverpossible,thepowersupplytotheequipmentmustbeshutoffbeforebeginningwork onthe equipment. Take particular caretogroundevery capacitor likelytohold a dangerous potential. Whenworkinginsidetheequipment,afterthepowerhasbeenturnedoff.alwaysgroundevery part beforetouching it. Be carefulnot to contact high-voltage connect ions wheninstalling or operating this equipment. Wheneverthenatureoftheoperationpermits,keeponehandawayfromthe equipment toreduce the hazard of current flowingthroughvital organs of thebody. C11 TM 9-1450-380-14 SAFETY MEASURES FOR HANDUNG HIGH-PRESSUREAIR SYSTEMS l.Personnelwhohandlehigh-pressureairhosesandcomponentsshallbethoroughlytrainedin theuseandmaintenanceofthe equipment,andintheapplicationof safetymeasurestoprotect against existing hazards.Proper protective equipment shallbeworn as required. 2.The system shall be used onlyforthe purpose of whichit was originally designed. 3.Inspectallsystemsusinghighpres.,ureairbefore,during,andafteruseforleaks,defective airhoses,improperlyadjustedvalves,malfunctioningregulatorsandreliefvalves,presenceof foreignmaterialsinthesystem,andcorrosion.Useonlythelubricantsthatarespecifiedfor pneumatic components.Oils and greases can explode when compressionheat ispresent. 4.Clearallai rhosesandvalvesatregularintervals.Releasepressurethroughbleedervalve., before disconnecting anylines or hoses or making any repairs. 5.Whenpressurizing a system,personnel operating the valves shall stand clearof hose connections, andshalltumthevalvesslowlytoprevent shockloading or pressure surgeswhichmaydamage hosesorcomponents.Closevalvesmanuallytopreventovertightening;nevertightenwitha wrench or tool.
