ApplicationLab – The Need?

In research programmes there is a whole lot of fancy stuff made. DIEM is no exception. Good so, but how are they used? Ore are they used at all? How to tackle the following problems:

• Dissemination – how to tell

the world?

• Comprehensibility – how to bring the technology-oriented results to the reach of developer mass and users?

• ’The last layer’ – even though the results are good, are they ready-packaged to be tested by users?

• Follow-up – how to get the results far enough to be commercialized and to everyday use?

ApplicationLab – The Idea?

• DIEM results are promoted through the web and events

• ApplicationLab forms the application ideas together with DIEM partners

• The applications are made either

– Independently or

– In specific ApplicationLab sites

• The ready-made Applications are gathered up and promoted through the web and events

– The best knowledge inside the companies -> the easiest to implement

• The independent developers

– Free application development on public results of DIEM possible

– EIT ICT Labs: Strong connection to the courses, exercises, in early phase

– Demola: Projects started and facilitated by Demola participation model

• In a nutshell all the application development using DIEM results is part of DIEM ApplicationLab

P147: Problem of the Day - Goals

• The idea is to build several use cases to be taken into everyday use – by combining everyday items, for example – Coffee machine – Sofa – Fridge – Lighting

• ThereGate home gateway will be the ‘heart’ of system • Different items will be connected by using Xbee moduls and Arduino

controllers

• After the project the results can be used by anyone in the premises – Implementations in other sites possible as well!
