Captain America: The First Avenger (title sequence)

Description: The title sequence starts off with a ww2 poster with the cornel on and dressed

in the american colours. We can see that in bold and standing out on the poster is you in

red and bigger than the rest of the writing. It the switches to a closer show of the cornels

face and finger pointing at the viewer. The image then switches to 2 hands shaking as an

agreement and the third hand joining in and we can tell the third hand represents America

by its colours. The screen then switches to 2 jets flying in the air with a red sky and an island

below them. The next shot is of many planes and it looks like they go on and on and dont

end. We then see the same cornel from the poster holding an american flag above is head

and pointing the jets forward. We then see soldiers going forward on to the front line.

Parachutes fall from the sky and we can see clear skies behind them. We then see a heroicsoldier standing with a gun ready to fight. The american colours appear on screen with a

women stood saluting and a type writer in front of her. We then see the jets shooting in the

sky. The screen then changes to a work glove holding a spanner on a nut and its a darker

background and dirtier. We then see a man from the navy carrying a sack on his shoulder

with a massive smile on his face. It then switches to a very american plane with the eagle on

the side and the american flag painted on to the front with a logo on the side. We then see a

man in the plane and looks as of he is about to jump out. It then moves to a ww2 truck with

a machine gun on the back. The womens poster saying we can do it then appears and it

only goes to the women and not the famous quote, although we see it quickly. The next

image is of 3 men are holding giant pens as if to say they cant wait to sign up for the army

and help their country. Then there is a machine gun with the flags of the different countries

    on it that have united.

Next there is a man kneeling on a tank with a gun in battle. This shows the men have singed

up with the courage to defend their country. We then see aeroplanes in the sky flying in to

battle. The next image is of a man tinted red. This could be a connotation to pain, anger or

danger. The image after is a man throwing a grenade and the colour is lighter so it could

mean the war would lead to victory to the Americans. The next image is of a plane with thequote keep em flying. Then there is a man in front of the American flag and a smiling with

a cup of tea. Theres also the quote how about a nice hot cup of freedom?. This could

show that the war means more than just defence but a fight for freedom. The next image

we see is Captain America in capitals and the first avenger beneath it in smaller print.

The colours are quite faded and old looking which also links to the fact that the film is set in

    the second world war.

Analysis: In all the shots it never cuts from one image to another it fades or blends in to the

next one, for example, on one image it shows a man in battle tinted red and instead oncutting the shot it slides along the screen to see a man throwing a grenade. All of the images

merge together and flow so its all smooth. The speed of the transitions is quite quickly but it

holds on an image for a couple of seconds. The colour used most in the images is red. This

colour could connotate danger, anger, pain, an enemy or something bad could happen.

There are also lighter colours like golds, yellows, whites and lighter colours. This could mean

victory or being proud to represent the country. It could also mean that there expectations, before they join the war, would be quite high of themselves and think they will do well but

the realism of it is that its a shock to them. The music is very heroic action and up-beat. It is

clear that they have used an orchestra with trumpets and percussion dominating the sound.

The atmosphere it creates is sort like a send off song but in a proud way.

The institution that made the film are paramount pictures and marvel entertainment. This

shows it is a comic book character that marvel originally made and it is a marvel studios

production. There are also famous names mentioned such as Chris Evans, the main

character, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, DominicCooper, Toby Jones, Neal McDonough, Derek Luke and a lot more. By showing the list of

actors in the opening credits helps you to figure out what sort of film it is as a main

character in the film could be mainly an action actor and it would give you hints to what the

film might be like. There hasnt been a camera used, it has all been computerised with still

images and well recognised ones, for example, there is a lot of ww2 posters used and

images of what the battle would have been like so people recognise them and know what

    the story is about.
