How do I get there from here?

In general students have 2 options:

• Doing your Practicum at your place of employment

• Doing your practicum at a new/alternate community site

Page 20: Title of presentation umanitoba.ca Are You thinking about registering for Field?

If you Choose to do your Practicum at your place of employment:

• Discuss your plan with the Agency Director • Your Practicum has to be in a program

different than your day to day employment• Your Field Instructor must be someone other

than your day to day supervisor• Your Field Instructor must have a degree in

Social Work

Page 21: Title of presentation umanitoba.ca Are You thinking about registering for Field?

If you Choose to do your Practicum at an

alternate community site:• You should treat your search for a Practicum site as you

would a job search• Identify a Field of interest• Research the Agency/Organization of interest• Update your resume and covering letter• Covering letter should identify your passion/interest in

the agency• Make personal contact with the agency• Be prepared to go for a personal interview• We are prepared to intervene at any point in this

process
