TRAVAIL
November 19, 2017
• Travail• Travailed• Travalest• Travaileth• Travailing
The word appear 45 times in five different forms:
• travail in birth • to bear young, beget• labor, sorrow, toil, travail• sadness, painfulness travail• to moan jointly, experience
common calamity
Travail is translated from many different words that carry meanings such as:
• as a description of grief for evil• as a description of judgment for
evil• for labor or laboring
Used of women giving birth:
Isaiah 66:7-13 (NLT) “Before the birth pains even begin, Jerusalem gives birth to a son. Who is ever seen anything as strange as this? Whoever heard of such a thing? Has a nation ever been born in a single day? Has a country ever come forth in a mere moment? But by the time Jerusalem's birth pains begin her children will be born. What I ever bring this nation to the point of birth and not deliver it? “asks the Lord. "No! I would never keep this nation from being born," says your God. (also Jeremiah 12:4&11)
Galatians 4:19 "My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,“
In Amplified Version: "My little children, for whom I am again suffering birth pangs until Christ is completely and permanently formed (molded) within you!
Romans 8:22 "For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. (also Jeremiah 12:4&11)
v23 NKJV “Not only but that, but we also who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.
Pamphlet:
O God revive us again.
I told a lie. (Little boy) How uncharacteristic I pride myself on always telling the truth. REALLY? Now we are into Pride. How many times have I said I'll pray for you and then forgot.
James 4:17 "therefore to him that know what to do good, and do with it not, to him it is sin."
Book by Dutch Sheets
Intercessory prayer: how God can use your prayers to move heaven and earth.
It has a chapter called "Supernatural Childbirth", which he calls travailing "birthing prayer"
Intercession! “Eyes too dry”
We say from our head and our mouth, "I want revival." Different from: I WANT REVIVAL!
However birthing prayer can take place anywhere.
Last week pastor preached a great message. One of the things he talked about was being spiritually hungry! Are we hungry for revival?
Romans 8:26-27 (Amplified) “So too the (Holy) Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groaning’s too deep for utterance.
Romans 8:27 And He who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the (Holy) Spirit – what his intent is –because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God] in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with God's will.
Dr A. T. Pierson once said,
“There has never been a spiritual awakening in any country or locality that did not begin in united prayer.”
The responsibility of calling America to prayer and of taking hold of God, of getting down on our faces before Him and staying there until He again visits us from on high, and once more diverts a crisis in our national history - is your responsibility and mine!
Hold your hours of prayer with an iron grasp. Let the people of God everywhere in America recognize the tremendous power of prayer, and mobilize and organize their forces at this strategic point, and our country will be swept out of the present crisis and into a great religious revival!
The Holy Spirit is God's birthing agent:
In Genesis 1:2 is the word moving.
The Hebrew word rachaph, literally means "to brood over"
The Amplified reads: "The earth was formless and void or a waste and emptiness, and darkness was upon the face of the deep [primeval ocean that covered the unformed earth]. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters.
The Message reads: "Earth was a soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness, and inky blackness. God's Spirit brooded like a bird over the watery abyss.
Have we prayed for the Holy Spirit to brood over or hover over lives, homes, our church, Port Ludlow, Jefferson County, our nation?
There is another aspect of intercession and that is warfare. We are involved in a spiritual battle.
Ephesians 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of the world this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”
Have we prayed against the power of Satan in our community and county and state?
Have we prayed that a hedge of protection might be about our loved ones?
Have we prayed that Satan's power would be broken, that the chains of evil that bind lives, cities, counties?
II Corinthians 10:4-5 (NKJV) "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,"
Our pastor asked last week, how spiritually hungry are you? Hungry enough to seek God?
In Korea it is normal for church members to go to bed early so they can arise at 4.00 am to participate in united prayer.
It is normal for them to pray all through Friday nights.
It is normal to go out to prayer retreats.
Cho says that any church might see this sort of phenomenal growth if they are prepared to 'pray the price,' to 'pray and obey.
Cho was once asked by a local pastor why was it that Cho's church membership was 750,000 and his was only 3,000 when he was better educated, preached better sermons and even had a foreign wife? Cho inquired, 'How much do you pray?' The pastor said, 'Thirty minutes a day.' To which Cho replied, 'There is your answer. I pray from three to five hours per day.'
Ezekiel 22:30 “I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I search for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn't have to destroy the land, but I found no one."
