What Is Title I, Part A?

• A federally funded program• Is based on the number of low-income students attending• Provides additional funds to help students reach

proficiency on challenging State tests*• Provides additional benefits such as : additional staff

members for individual instruction and small group instruction in the classroom, after school academic programs, extended year programs, additional materials of instruction, parent involvement programs, professional development opportunities for teachers

*Or other more appropriate standards and/or assessments for private school students.

What are the guidelines for Eligibility in Anne Arundel

County?

• Public, private, and Charter schools• Servicing Grade Spans Pre K-5• Students attending reside in a Title I-

participating public school attendance area and are currently living in poverty

• Students are identified as academically failing or “at risk” of failing to meet State standards

If the student’s “home” school is one of the elementary schools listed below, they live in a Title I attendance area*:

*This list may change pending the FY09 Title I and county budget

What are the Procedures for Determining Private School

Allocations?• The allocation for a private school is based on the

number of low-income private school students who reside in a Title I-participating public school attendance area

• Parents of eligible students must complete a confidential income survey to submit to the Title I Office to determine income status

• The amount allocated per private school student must be equitable to the per pupil allocation that the participating public school receives

How Can Title I Funds be Used?

Title I funds can be used for…• Extended learning time (before/ after school,
