TISPOL VISION - “To be the Most Effective Police Road Safety
Network in the World.”
What is TISPOL?
The TISPOL Organisation was established in 1996 by the traffic police
forces of Europe in order to improve road safety and law enforcement on
the roads of Europe.
TISPOL currently has 30 European Traffic Police Service members
including the EU 28 MS, Norway, Switzerland. Serbia is an observer
country to TISPOL
Road Safety in Europe
•25,700 road deaths in 2014*
•500 road deaths per week
•199,000 reported seriously injured in road collisions*
•3,800 serious life changes injuries as result of road collisions per week
•18.7 billion € estimated value of reductions in road deaths in the EU28 2011-
2013*
•Fewer casualties means less trauma for citizens and saves money
•Need to consider the return on investment in road safety
•The potential gains are huge for road safety

TISPOL Road Safety Project ‘STRIDER’ (Solutions To Reduce Injury and
Death on Europe's Roads) 2015-2017
•To reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on Europe’s roads;
•To promote efficient cross border co-operation between Member States
concerning the enforcement of traffic rules and share good practice
•To carry out pan-European Enforcement operations with particular emphasis
on those offences identified in the Cross Border Enforcement Directive
•To communicate effectively with EU citizens to raise their awareness of road
safety related issues;
•Organise thematic road safety
seminars, and officer exchanges
to share ‘best enforcement practice’
TISPOL Co-ordinated Operations • Week long enforcement actions of different areas of Road Safety - Operation TRUCK ( X 3 per year) - BUS (X 3 per year) - SPEED (X 2 per year) - ALCOHOL & DRUG DRIVING (X 2 per year) - SEATBELT (X 2 per year) Results in TISPOL Operations 2015 • Over 400,000 trucks controlled, 125,000 offences detected • Over 70,000 buses controlled, 17,000 offences detected • Over 1.3 million speed offenders detected (includes 24 hour Speed Marathon
Operation) • Over 2 million drivers controlled for drink and drugs with over 30,000 offences • Almost 200,000 offences for non-wearing of seatbelts • In TISPOL 0perations 2015, European road police officers detected a crime every 5
minutes
