TECHNIQUES OF ANSWERING DIRECTED WTITING:1. DIRECTED WRITING means GUIDED ESSAY whereby NOTES or STIMULUS or BOTH will be given to help you.

2. You need to have the knowledge of the following:Descriptive, narrative, expository or argumentative writing.Speeches.Different types of report.InterviewsStoriesPresenting opinions on social or current issuesDescriptions of processes and procedures

Time allotted : 45 minutes Read and analyse the question carefully. Understand clearly the situation, instructions and notes / details given. Planning Stage : 5 minutes. Jot down notes for expansion.6. Use the correct format and tenses7. Use suitable tone and style appropriately e.g informal letter & speeches

8. Use all notes given. Do not leave anything out.9. Make your essay interesting by adding in suitable and varied vocabulary & effective expressions.10. Check for grammatical errors before handing up.11. Write a well-organised essay of at least one full page of your test pad.

Time alloted : 60 minutes Planning stage : 5-6 minutes. Use a MIND MAP to brainstorm ideas.Organise ideas into paragraphs.Add suitable vocabulary, figurative expressions, direct speeches, quotations.Check and edit your essay - 5 minutes before time.

TIPS TO IMPROVE ESSAY WRITING SKILLSSmooth flow of ideas and style of writing.Only use bombastic words when you know how to use them appropriately.Read more to acquire information and vocabulary.Spend 30-60 minutes a day to read any English materials.Improve your English by speaking and reading constantly.
