Tips for parents

Recording different types of weather will help your child to develop their maths skills in the early years.

There are five daily record sheets in this calendar – so you could choose to use them from Monday to Friday or on other days. There are also more sheets on our website at booktrust.org.uk/poridrwystori if you enjoy it!

Talk to your child about what day of the week it is. They might like to try to copy it in the space below. Then, ask them what type of weather they can see that morning or afternoon. If it’s mixed, you could introduce questions like ‘is it more sunny, or cloudy’ to really help them. Every record sheet also has a space for them to draw a picture to help them remember what they were doing that day.

After the daily record sheet, there’s a summary sheet. Once all the daily sheets have been completed you and your child can look back at the week as a whole. You’ll find some questions to talk about and there are more on the website too.

Os yw hi’n gymysgedd o dywydd, gallech gyflwyno cwestiynau fel ‘ydi hi’n fwy heulog neu gymylog?’ i’w helpu ymhellach. Mae gofod ar bob taflen gofnodi lle gallan nhw wneud llun hefyd, er mwyn eu helpu i gofio beth roedden nhw’n ei wneud y diwrnod hwnnw.

Ar ôl y daflen gofnodi ddyddiol, mae taflen grynhoi. Unwaith y bydd pob un o’r taflenni dyddiol wedi’u llenwi, gallwch chi a’ch plentyn edrych yn ôl dros yr wythnos ar ei hyd. Fe ddowch chi o hyd i rai cwestiynau i’w trafod ac mae rhagor ar y wefan hefyd.
