Tips and Suggestions

For Alleviating Pain

—John and Joanne Verone

Joanne and John will present an informative pro-gram on "Tips and Suggestions" for the preven-tion and help for your back, neck and knee pain. They have incorporated many modalities in their practice throughout the years. They have taken many workshops which has enabled them to have numerous tools to use in their practic-es. Joanne will inform us on how to remove ear wax with ear candles. This is a Native American Technique that is very gentle and not painful. This has been very effective for helping some people to regain some of their hearing.

They will inform us about various products that they use daily in their practice. One lucky person will re-ceive a magnetic treatment.

Joanne graduated from Palmer College of Chiro-practic in 1966. She has been a NYS Licensed Massage Therapist since 1970. In 1985, Joanne and John opened the first Massage Center in Central New York. This was necessary because there were only a few licensed massage thera-pists in our community. She often gave lectures to the students at Syracuse University and Lemoyne college about the benefits of therapeu-tic massage. She had to spend many hours edu-cating the community about the benefits of Mas-sage. She has taught at the Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage and has been named by Van Delia, owner of the school, "the Grandmoth-er of Massage"

“Soul Journey”

—Virginia (Kiki) Waldron at the Rose Heart Center

[October Program description continued.]

She has taught Programs about Self-Help Massage and Shoulder Massage at Cicero-North Syracuse adult education. She lectured at many places: Medical School, staff at Benjamin Rush, nurses in hospi-tals, schools etc.

John is also a NYS Licensed Massage Therapist. He recently opened a sec-ond location in Shoppingtown Mall. He provides both chair and table mas-sages, Anyone can stop by anytime between Noon-6:00pm. Monday-Saturday for a quick 10-15 minute chair massage. He enjoys meeting and tell-ing people about the benefits of massage. He also sells corn bags, Sombra liniments and gift baskets made to order.

Joanne and John will also recommend specific isometric exercises to prevent back, knee and neck conditions.

They will demonstrate how to use Tennis Balls to deactivate, prevent or reduce painful area in your muscles.

They use Tennis Balls to eliminate trigger points which create many problems in our muscles. A trigger point defined by Dr. Janet Travell, {who was the personal physician, of President John F. Kennedy}, is a sore sensitive area in a muscle which can cause pain and discomfort. Trigger Points can occur after injuries, ac-cidents, falls, cold weather, jumping into a cold swimming pool, etc. You will learn how to locate and deactivate the TP which causes pain. Massage Thera-pists are trained to be Trigger Point detectives. We use our thumbs, elbows, etc., to locate and eliminate them for our clients. Sometimes TP will follow the path of the Acupuncture Meridian, which could be

caused by decreased energy to a particular organ or system in the body.

Nikken Magnets are specific magnets designed to increase circulation and reduce pain. We have shoe inserts which reduce leg fatigue, especially if you stand all day, a magnetic roller for use as a Shiatsu treatment, magnetic mattress pads, as well as other smaller magnets. Many of us stay in our buildings and houses and we do not receive enough natural magnetic energy. Mountains and two feet in the ocean provide the highest magnetic energy. We need to daily think about walking on the ground to replenish the magnetic ener-gy. Overhead lighting can also deplete our energy.

Joanne and John have an office at 3522 James Street Suite 104, Syracuse, NY. phone 315-656-2072

John shop is in Shoppingtown Mall near the Dick's store entrance. You can call for a first time free Magnetic Therapy session with Nikken Magnets or a Light Therapy session.

TRANSPERSONAL PSYCHOLOGY QUESTIONNAIRE and REPLIES - SEPTEMBER 2014 - Nancy Gallagher

1) What does TPA mean to you and how long have you been attending TPA meetings? Gathering of people, social night out, enjoying conversations & presentations, it’s my support group, like minded people in community looking for connection to people who have similar interest. Place to meet friends, exchange new ideas. Community and Community meetings. Co-creations and Celebra-tions, Trust, Trusting Environments, Good friends and good food for body, mind and spirit. 2) Why do you like coming to TPA meetings? I love TPA! It’s where I see people I haven’t see in a while and I can catch up. Topics and subject mat-ter. All people, all ages matter. Amazing diverse presentations. I like learning new things. Seeing peo-ple I don’t see often because of busy schedule. Time to share feelings and thoughts. Place where we care about one another. Learning and sharing new ideas with like-minded people. Most EVERYONE who took survey has already invited some-one and will consider inviting someone to future TPA meetings. Folks have invited spouses, friends, children.

Bravo!

Great presentation!

8) Are there groups / organizations you’d like TPA to connect with? Rose Heart Center Light on the Hill - Ithaca Society of Dousers Peace and Trust Groups Gay & Lesbian Groups Suggestion that articles (New Times / Woman Magazine) be written re: AHP / TPA process 9) TPA is currently looking for a program coordinator? Are YOU interested in being doing this and working with getting presenters and finding housing for meetings? Susan Savion and Debbie Pillsbury are willing to help program coordinator and Nancy Gallagher is stepping in as program coordinator. 10) Do you prefer meetings to be held in people’s homes or in public places and why? Most members want meetings in people’s homes. Most also feel it’s up to nature of presentation if meeting is for home or public place. TWO members want public space. 11) Have you hosted TPA meetings ? Might you host this year? What month(s) could you host? Homes open to us this year: Michelle Frankel - October / November Sue Savion - November / December, other times if needed. Carolyn Clark - January Aziz - When he’s here Kate - Anytime Joanne Verone - April / May / October May - May Memorial Nancy & Dale Gallagher - June / September 12) How do you feel if. in place of membership dues ,TPA attendees can sign their name in meeting book and place $5.00 contribution in basket whenever they do come to a meeting? Most EVERYONE things this is a very good idea. It is also noted that those who want to have newslet-ter mailed to them MUST pay for postage and printing cost. Sue Savion will address this at next meet-ing. 13) How do you feel about first time attendees NOT contributing $5.00 and why? Most Members feel this is a good thing to consider doing and are in support of the idea. Other comments: * How is acceptable amount determined? * Sliding Scale $5 - $ 8 for all at all meetings. * This amount for meetings without yearly dues seems low especially if every new person is a GUEST and FREE ... * $5 Donation Basis VS Charge for First Time Attendees. * Make FIRST MEETING FEE OPTIONAL to first-time guests. This will also keep things simple as it may be difficult to track who’s a guest and who has been there before.

14) How do you feel about offering host $20.00 to cover part of their expenses? Most EVERYONE thinks it is good to offer for those willing to open their homes and serve the rest of us * Two think it’s an especially good idea when host needs to make copies for everyone, as in last meet-ing or needs to buy cake or something special for TPA group event . *One thinks NO *One says - too expensive for me. *Two think - could be based on need of host. Other comments: it’s not necessary, nice gesture, mixed feelings. One is concerned that someone may abuse this - open home ‘just” for money. 15) Are you interested in working as TPA co-treasurer with Flo Di Pietro? Dale Gallagher and Ray Di Pietro Jr are interested. Talking with Flo, she is comfortable working with Dale Gallagher 16) Are YOU in favor of having a MEDITATION held prior to TPA presentation? Most Members feel comfortable with a Meditation that is short or silent. No longer than 5 minutes. It is also suggested by some that it be held right after dinner at start of full group meeting giving every-one time to center and then meet one another as opposed to holding it at start of presentation as it may NOT go with presenter’s program. 17) Would YOU feel comfortable taking 15 minutes prior to dinner in helping host set up dinner table / chairs ? Most EVERYONE is willing to help host. Folks want host to state needs and allow them to help before dinner and towards end of meeting. It is suggested that clean up take place after presentation and not after dinner so those who are late can get food and those who want more food can also get food. Peo-ple don’t necessarily want to take food back home. One person wanted to know how many groups / people would be needed for help? One suggested rotating set up / clean up teams - sign your name on way into meeting. One was concerned as she’s already running late to meetings. One does not eat dinner. One said MAYBE after program. 18) Would YOU feel comfortable taking 15 -20 minutes after dinner to welcome new attendees, finding out what brings them there and asking how we could make them feel more comfortable? Most EVERYONE thinks it’s a great idea to welcome new folks, find out their names, how they got to TPA, where they are from, how we can make them more comfortable Some think it’s a good idea to say HELLO to everyone who is present, folks we know and don’t know. Great way to meet new folks maybe you did not get to talk with, meet during dinner. It’s a way to widen our circle and move away from small group “cliques”. Other comments: One does not want to say hello. One is concerned about formality / informality of group - qualified.

WELCOME!

Other comments: One does not want to say hello. One is concerned about formality / informality of group - qualified. 19) Would you feel comfortable during these 15 -20 minute also asking if other attendee want to share past monthly or future monthly concerns and events? Most said: ok, sure, great idea, yes to sharing among people present. Some said face to face, whole group interaction and the dialogue that can happen may enrich our com-munity process. One said, “Not for me.” One said, “I don’t understand.” 20) Would you feel comfortable 15 minutes before closing meeting time, as set by host, if we gathered in a circle of thanks for the evening? Most EVERYONE said YES, good / great idea and that closing circles bring visible closure.

Three other comments: One “No.” One “I don’t like this; I think Meditation is fine.” And one, “Should be 2-3 minute circle - not 15 minutes
