Situated in the Belgian Ardennes
Eau Rouge and Raidillon are two of world motorsport’s most notorious spots
Opened in 1921, the original circuit formed a triangle between Francorchamps, Malmedy and Stavelot and was 14.981km in length
Only one driver turned up for the first race in 1921, so the circuit’s inauguration was postponed until 1922
The former layout hosted an F1 grand prix for the last time in 1970 and its last prototype race in 1975
In 1973, Henri Pescarolo established a lap record at an average speed of 262.461kph in a Matra 670B
THE circuit - spa-francorchamps
Spa-Francorchamps is relatively hard on tyres. Its high speeds and the famous compression at Eau Rouge make big demands on the casings. Wear is average
and the surface drains well, so tyre choices are often a notch off the norm. If it rains, intermediates often suffice, while slicks function well in damp conditions.

“Spa-Francorchamps is quite hard on tyres due to the high aerodynamic loads and high speeds. Kit’s commonly believed that if our tyres work at Spa, they will work at Le Mans, as well. Spa is a last chance to sign off our tyres for the Le Mans 24 Hours. We will have medium- and hard-compound slicks for our LM P1 and LM GTE partners. We will also obviously have intermediate and rain tyres because the weather can be very wet in the Belgian Ardennes at this time of year.”

FIA WEC SPORTING REGULATIONS
FIA WEC grid orders for six-hour races are based on the average best qualifying times of each car’s two nominated drivers
Starts take the form of rolling starts after a formation lap
To be classified, a car must cross the finish line and complete at least 70 percent of the distance covered by the race winner
Points-scoring system (six-hour races)

Allocation of slick tyres for six-hour races
LMP1: 3 sets for free practice / 4 sets for qualifying and the race / 2 joker tyres
LMP2: 3 sets for free practice / 4 sets for qualifying and the race / 2 joker tyres
LM GTE Pro: 3 sets for free practice / 4 sets for qualifying and the race / 2 joker tyres
LM GTE Am: 4 sets for free practice / 6 sets for qualifying and the race / 2 joker tyres
LM P2: 3 types of slick for the season / 2 types of slick for each race, to be nominated 48 hours before scrutineering / 1 type of intermediate tyre and 1 type of rain tyre for the season
LM GTE Pro: 3 types of slick per model for the season
LM GTE Am: 3 types of slick per
model for the season / 1 type of intermediate tyre and 1 type of rain tyre for the season
A maximum of 4 mechanics and 2 tyre guns for wheel changes during pit stops. Tyre changes are only authorised once refuelling has been completed.
2 tyre technicians are authorised to carry out a visual inspection of the tyres and check their pressures.
Tyre changes are only authorised a) on the grid up to the three-mi-nute board, b) in front of the car’s garage during a pit stop or inside the garage in the case of longer work on the car, c) on the track if the race is suspended.
Tyres are identified by RFID tags and bar codes
