Sung in Japanese

translation:

ForwardI rememberYour warm hand.

I rememberYour kind voice.

I rememberYour honest eyes and quiet prayer.

When I close my eyesI recall the time we spent together,And the time we sang together.

The end of music is not our farewell. As music lives again, So will you live again and again in my memory.

I rememberA dream you cherished.

I rememberA smile you beamed at tomorrow.

With memories of you in my heart,One step at a time, I walk forward.

Embracing every day’s happiness and sadness,One step at a time, I walk forward.

One step at a time, I walk forward.

JON HURTY

Jon Hurty is Director of Choral Activities and Henry Veld Professor in Music at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. He directs the Augustana Choir and the Augustana Chamber Singers, serves as the

conductor of the Handel Oratorio Society and teaches conducting. He also co-directs music for Augustana’s campus ministries and is the conductor and artistic director for Augustana Choral Artsits. Before coming to Rock Island he was Director of Choral Activities at Concordia University in Irvine, California.

His interest in choral music led him to Lindsborg, Kansas, where he completed his undergraduate degree in vocal performance at Bethany College under Elmer Copley. Study at Bethany provided a link to the Augustana tradition, as Copley was an alumnus who had sung under the Augustana Choir’s first conductor, Henry Veld.

He completed his master’s degree in choral conducting at California State University, Northridge, and his doctorate in choral conducting and literature at the University of Illinois. He has studied conducting with John Alexander, Don Moses, Chet Alwes and Ann Howard Jones. Throughout his career, Hurty has developed and refined his skills as a conductor, and has studied conducting in workshops with Paul Christiansen, Robert Shaw and Helmut Rilling.

Active as a guest conductor and clinician, he has served in All-State, State and Regional festivals of the American Choral Directors Association, the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, National Association for Music Education, and many colleges and high schools. He also has guest conducted for the Quad City Symphony Orchestra subscription series.

Dr. Hurty has conducted the Tian Kong Choir and served as a guest professor at Huazhong Normal University in Wuhan, China. He has conducted his choirs in concerts throughout the United States as well as Sweden, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, Austria, Japan and Korea.

TIM KOLL

Tim Koll received a bachelor of arts in music education with an emphasis in vocal music from Augustana College in 2010. Since then he has completed a master of music education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, and a master

of arts in educational leadership and principal preparation from Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois. Currently Koll is in his eighth year of teaching choir at Conant High School in Hoffman Estates, where he serves as the department chair of music.

NICK JUKNELIS

Nick Juknelis received his bachelor of arts in vocal music education from Augustana College in 2001. While at Augustana, Juknelis served as assistant to Dr. Jon Hurty, conductor of the Augustana Choir, Chamber Singers and Handel

Oratorio Society. Also active as a piano accompanist, Juknelis served as a rehearsal accompanist at Augustana for such pieces as Verdi’s Requiem and Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms.

Juknelis earned the master of arts in choral conducting and pedagogy from the University of Iowa. He is an active member of the Illinois Music Educators Association, where he served as a district VII choral representative for many years. Now in his 16th year as choir director at Lake Zurich High School, Juknelis conducts Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale, Bare Voices, Men’s Choir and Cadet Choir, and he also serves as the assistant musical director.
