OF TEXEL

On Texel, you won’t be bored for a minute! Throughout the year, there are lots of special events to enjoy on the island. From

a fun jumble sale, the Half Marathon of De Waal to the biggest catamaran race in the world: the Round Texel Race. Below you can fi nd

an overview of all the events taking place on the island from January to December 2018 inclusive.

JANUARY

in Den Hoorn there is a fl ea market on

Monday from 01.30 a.m. to 04.00 p.m. The

proceeds are for the maintenance of the

Hoornder church.

Saturday 13 and Sunday 28 JanuaryBOS EN DUINCROSSTo run in the pine forest on Texel. Sheltered

in the forest with a sharp climb and a bit of

pavement. For this season, Forest and Dune

runs are on the program. The running track

is a lap of 2935 meters.

FEBRUARY

Sunday 11 February SUPER SUNDAYThe ultimate challenge can be found on

Texel! The Super Sunday, a unique journey

of 100 km on Texel. Across farmland,

forest and dunes, exciting paths and the

expanded North Sea beach.

Sunday 11 FebruaryBOS EN DUINCROSSTo run in the pine forest on Texel. Sheltered

Saturday 17 February TEXELTRAILThe Texel trail is a challenging run through

the rough dune area of Texel. Space, wind

and water mark the experience of running in

Saturday 10 March HALF-MARATHON DE WAALThis run over a distance of 6, 10 or 21.1

kilometers leads the participants through

the most beautiful roads through the polder

near the village of De Waal.

Sunday 25 March AMUSE TOUR DEN BURG

A culinary food and drink walk along

tasteful combinations. Enjoyment, cosines,

amazement and a unique décor. Those are

the ingredients of the Amuse tour.

The Ramblers Association

(“Waddensportvereniging”) Het Gouden

Boltje organizes the lambs walk on Texel on

Monday 2 April 2018. Along the way you

will see the sheep with lambs in the

meadow. In addition you will pass sheep

barns and garden walls.

Friday 20 until 22 April TEXEL WEEKENDThe 31st edition of the Texel Weekend 2018

at riding school Akenburg, Den Burg! A

popular horseriding event where riders from

the entire country participate.

Friday 27 April KING’S DAY ON TEXELKing’s day is well celebrated on Texel, with

several lovely activities in each village. Like

the traditional fl ea market and ‘ King’s party ‘

in the centre of Den Burg.

spring is celebrated. Each village has its own

Festival’ from De Slock ‘ with 12 taps and

Friday 25 May DRIVE-IN CINEMAOn 25 may Outdoor Cinema and Texel

Airport present a drive-in cinema again

on Texel! Vintage cars, lease cars, brackish

barrels, Tesla’s ... all that drives (and fl ies) is

welcome, because they are on the airfi eld of

Texel. The terrain is open from 8.30 pm and

the fi rst to arrive can be in front, unless you

use a very high vehicle.

Sunday 27 May until Sunday 24 June KLIFHANGER EXHIBITIONS Klifhanger is an art manifestation at

locations in and around Den Hoorn. This

manifestation is organized every other year.

The themes are different every time.

The theme of 2018 is heritage. 20 works

of art in and around Den Hoorn.

JUNE

Friday 1 June until Saturday 30 JuneLANGE JUNI (LONG JUNE)Lange Juni (long June) is the culture month

on the island, bursting with art, culture and

music. Enrich your mind and spirit during

long June on the island of Texel.

Saturday 2 JuneMUSIC FESTIVAL ON THE ICE RINKOn 2 June 2018 we are having a nice party

on the ice rink in Den Burg! Various artists

will perform on Texel.

Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 June NK KITEBUGGYOn the beach at the Lighthouse is a

kitebuggy race which counts for the Dutch

championship Kitebuggy organized by the

Buggy Club Holland.

Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 June TEVOKO BUITENTOERNOOISporty and cozy outdoor volleyball on a lovely

sheltered and sunny playground of Forestry.

144 teams from the Netherlands participate.

Thursday 7 June TOUR DE LASALLE In 2018 already the 64th Edition of the Tour

de Lasalle will take place. The oldest cycling

race of the most northern part of Noord-

Holland has over the years become one of

the sportiest highlights in the municipality of

Den Helder and surrounding municipalities.

This year the fi rst stage starts on Texel.

Saturday 16 June ROUND TEXELThe world’s largest catamaran event. Around

300 catamarans, including the International

Sailing Competition, try as quickly as

possible to sail around the island. The start

at Paal 17, is spectacular.

festival in a place full of history. The festival

is held every year during culture month

Sunday 24 June MARKET OF TASTE EXPERIENCE This unique experience- and fl avor market

takes place on the estate Bonte Belevenis,

beautifully situated on the dunes near Den

Hoorn from 11.00 a.m.

Friday 29 June AMUSETOUR OUDESCHILDA culinary walk on the harbor of Oudeschild

along a number of restaurants. The amuses

are served with a matching drink.

Saturday 30 JuneROUND OF OUDESCHILD The only round on Texel with a real climb

and the accompanying “mountain jumper”.

Start and fi nish are at the harbour of

Oudeschild.

beanbags and parasols create a real summer

party atmosphere in Oudeschild. Chefs from

Texel and all over the Netherlands prepare

the most delicious dishes using local

produce.

held: Oosterend Present! The streets of the

village are decorated, there is a party tent

most beautiful air shows in the Netherlands

with many international participants. You

can admire historic but also modern military

and private aircrafts on the ground and in

the sky.

musicians and theatre performers visit

Sunday 12 August WINE AT SEASunday the 12th of August, the Zeereeppad

in De Koog changes in a paradise by the

sea. Try different wines from Texel and

regional winemakers and importers.

Sunday 12 AugustLEGO-DAY In the Farm “Hoeve Nieuwkoop” you can

admire many LEGO-construction works.

Collectors and builders from across the

country are present to show what they have

made. The entrance of LEGO-day is free,

parking is available at the farm on the land.

performances and sets by DJs in a tropical

Cocksdorp. All shops and restaurants remain

open. There is a large market, live music

and entertainment. Admission free.

Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 September KITESURFWEEKENDBoardercross’ and ‘hang time’ competitions

are held on the beach at Paal 17. On the

day with the best wind you can subscribe to

join in the tent on the beach.

competition of gurnard and small sole

returns to the centre of Oosterend.

than four thousand beautiful monuments

in the Netherlands free for everyone. Texel

is participating too! The participating

monuments can be recognized by the

freestyle kiteboarders will be coming to

our beautiful island of Texel to compete

in a World Kiteboarding League World

Cup event! Riders from no fewer than 19

different countries will be battling it out for

the much-coveted title of world champion.

Saturday 13 October BEACH OBSTACLE RUNBORT is a challenging obstacle race on the

beach of Texel. The race consists of no less

than 30 obstacles. It starts at Paal 20 and

the run takes place between the beaches

Paal 17 and 21.

Saturday 13 until Sunday 14 OctoberDUTCH BIRDING-WEEKEND Visit the Dutch Birding weekend Texel!

During the day you can watch birds, there

are lectures about birds and bird recognition

and the Bird informationcentre, this is the

base for all bird watchers.

Tuesday 23 october AUTUMN MARKET IN DE KOOGOn 23 october a lively autum market will be

organised at the village square in De Koog.

Wednesday 24 October AUTUMN MARKET DEN BURGOn Wednesday 24 October there is a

cosy is the city centre of Den Burg. The

market starts at 11.00 a.m. and lasts up

to 05.00 p.m. There will be music, art and

entertainment for young and old.

Thursday 25 OctoberDURPERMARKTThe Durper Market is held from 11.00 a.m.

to 05.00 p.m. in the Kikkertstraat in De

Cocksdorp. With all kinds of stalls, food,

drinks and entertainment.

Saturday 27 October LIGHTS TOUR DEN BURGOn Saturday 27 October, the village

Committee of Den Burg the second Lights

tour. We are gathering from 7pm at the

“Glazen Paleis”(‘glass palace) in the park.

The tour starts at 7.30 pm. Everyone

is invited to bring a little light/candle.

Participation is free.

Saturday 27 October NACHT VAN DE NACHTTexel still has real dark skies. This makes it

a fantastic location for Nacht van de Nacht,

a night sky event to raise light pollution

awareness, which this year takes place on

Saturday 27 October. On this night, there

are lots of fun, special activities being

organised on the island.

NOVEMBER

Sunday 4 November MTB VELDTOURTOCHTDiscover the best mtb trails on the island

during the second fi eld tour: forest, single

tracks, nature, dunes, beach and farmland.

By starting from the boat! Distances: 30, 40,

50, 60 or 70 km.

Friday 16 to Sunday 18 November incl.STRUÛNEnjoy free music and performances during

Struun Texel.

Wednesday 12 DecemberOUWE SUNDERKLAASOuwe Sunderklaas has nothing to do with

St. Nicholas. As soon as darkness falls, the

spectacle begins. In all the villages, topical

Texel events are re-enacted.

Thursday 13 December CHRISTMAS MARKET AT MAARTENHUISAt the Maartenhuis at the Ruijslaan near De

Koog, a Christmas market is held from 05.00

p.m. until 08.00 p.m. There are stalls with

homemade delicacies, a living nativity scene

and music is played.

Saturday 15 December CHRISTMAS MARKET OOSTEREND Oosterend has a lovely tradition: the annual

Christmas market on the Saturday following

Ouwe Sunderklaas.

Thursday 27 December WINTERMARKET DEN BURGAt 27 December, there is a “the end of the

year market” in the centre of Den Burg. The

market is held from 02.00 p.m. until 09.00

p.m. There is a varied music program, food

and drinks, fi re pots and more.
