Excerpts of speech by SpeakerGingrich at a gathering of Iranians

in Paris on June 24, 2012

I looked at some of the video

[of the gathering on June 23] and

    I must say, President Maryam

    Rajavi, the enthusiasm with

    which you were greeted was

    second only to the enthusiasm

with which I was greeted here,

    Mr. Gingrich said lightheartedly.

He added, I think what you

    did yesterday was historic and

    extraordinary and needs to be

    driven home so that everybody

    who makes foreign policy

    decisions in the U.S. understands

just how big this movement is

geng and how widespread it is

    and how bi-parsan the American

support for it is. I commend

you on a very successful day

    yesterday.The regime, the dictatorship

which is sll there, is not

    confused. It is a dictatorship

which wants to impose a very

    parcular power structure not

only on Iranians, not only on the

people of the Gulf, but around

the world. And it is a dictatorship

    engaged in repression, and an

    human rights and in acvies

that are intolerable. It is to theshame of the United Naons

that they connue to treat that

Newt GingrichFormer Speaker of US House of Representatives and Presidential Candidate

dictatorship as though it was a normal government because it is not. Sothe rst step is very simple. We will never have peace and we will never

have jusce in the region as long as that dictatorship survives. That leads

me to my second point, which is what should the American strategy be.

Our goal should not focus on nuclear weapons; our goal should not focus

on temporary strategic deals. Our goal should be to assist the people of

Iran in overthrowing the dictatorship and eliminang this regime.

Lastly, the United States should intervene decisively over Camp Ashraf

and Camp Liberty. We bear a moral responsibility; we gave a commitment

as the United States. People believed in us. People protected us. Our

ocers who were there told the truth again and again. And I believe the

United States Congress should overrule the State Department and shouldinsist in our intervening and we should make this a major issue with the

    Iraqi government.

    Newt Gingrich and Maryam Rajavi.

Newt Gingrich is welcomed by the Iranians in Paris on June 24, 2012

    Speaker Newt Gingrich was among

those invited to speak in the June 23

gathering but he could not be in Paris

on me due to ight cancelaon.

He was welcomed by the Iranians in

Paris on June 24 where he made a

    short speech expressing his support

    for democrac change in Iran.

Our goal should be to assist the people of Iran in overthrowing

I wish that we could understand that the future lieswith delisng the main opposion group to the Tehran regime.

Undoubtedly, your gathering will frighten the Iranian regime

when it sees the enormous number of people here.

I also would like to salute all the men and women in Ashraf andCamp Liberty. Those who like to see the regime in Iran changedand who are sacricing their life for it. I am so pleased to meet you again,

like every year since nine years

ago, since June 17, 2003 when an

incredible police operaon was deployed in my town Auvers-

sur-Oise. Each year we reunite, every year much larger, you

never cease to grow; you might be even millions if all cizens

    of Iran could parcipate.

The future of Iran belongs to you, because the future belongs

    to democracy.

With regional developments and stalled nuclear talks with

the mullahs, we see that its me to turn a page in Iran and

a dierent government to take power; a government much

dierent from a religious and medieval dictatorship.

She also laid wreath in tribute to supporters of

the Iranian Resistance in Europe and residents of

Ashraf and Liberty, who passed away in recentmonths. They included: Danielle Mierrand, the

More than 500 parliamentarians, political, human rights, judicial and religious

gures from more than 40 countries attend the gathering

On June 23, the largest gathering of exiled Iranians with the

parcipaon of hundreds of polical personalies, legislators andjurists from 40 countries, called for rmness vis--vis the Iranianregime and recognion of the Naonal Council of Resistance ofIran by the world community.Voicing outrage over turning Camp Liberty into a prison, theparcipants urged the United Naons, the U.S., and the EuropeanUnion to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Ashraf andLiberty which the Government of Iraq is seng stage for at thebehest of the mullahs regime. They also demanded guaranteeingthe rights of residents as asylum-seekers and people of concernunder internaonal law, and to force Iraq to remove its cruelrestricons against the residents immediately. They underscored

that the demands of the residents need to be realized before the

resumpons of relocaon to Liberty. The parcipants asked Secretary Clinton to immediatelyimplement US Appeals Court ruling and revoke the unjustdesignaon of the Iranian Resistance. The designaon has beenthe main factor in prolonging Iranian regimes rule and has beenused to jusfy two massacres in Ashraf. The execuon and tortureof thousands of members and sympathizers of the PMOI insideIran as well as imposing crippling limitaons on Iranians in theUnited States. The designaon is also being used by the Iranianregime and the Iraqi government to repress the residents ofAshraf and Camp Liberty.Mrs. Maryam Rajavi was the keynote speaker.

    Dear Compatriots,

    Supporters of the Resistance,

My warmest greengs to all of you!

On this day and at such a magnicent gathering, I want to sharewith all of you my own feelings as I witness this overwhelmingenthusiasm. I see in you and with you the tens of millions ofIranians who are yearning for freedom.

I hear the voices of my brave sisters across our homeland, andthe proud prisoners of conscience who are connuing their

resistance in the dungeons of [the regimes Supreme Leader] AliKhamenei. And I hear the outcry of students, workers, teachersand all those who long for freedom and liberaon.

Indeed, all of us hear your outcries from the four corners of Iranand your voice echoes in our ears. The cry of every Iranian isindeed Freedom! Freedom!

In this gathering, I see the spirit of enraged peoples of the MiddleEast who have risen up against the principal threat to the wholeregion, namely the religious fascism ruling Iran; the people inSyria, Iraq, Afghanistan and other regional countries whoserepresentaves are here with us today.

And in you, I see the tremendous force of humanity, jusce, love and faith that is alien to fague and decrepitude. It is this

force that inspires and steers forward the largest assemblies, the longest sit-ins and the strongest movements. It crumbles the

we have no choice but to

    continue until victory

thick walls of impossibilies and is determined to march forward unlits ulmate ascendance to the pinnacle of victory.

    Fellow Compatriots,

The most recent important development has been the judgmentissued by the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., against theunlawful terrorist label against the Peoples Mojahedin Organizaonof Iran (PMOI/MEK). This was a landmark and historic achievement inthe struggle between the Iranian peoples Resistance and the clericalregime.

The court made it clear that the PMOIs lisng is illegimate and ruledthat if the State Department fails to make a decision on this maer, the court itself will unilaterally revoke the PMOIs designaon.

Such is the sound of chains breaking apart, the dark houses ofdemonizaon crumbling, and the spectacular defeat of the Velayat-e

    faqih [absolute clerical rule] regime.

The PMOIs designaon in the U.S. was meant to deny the right ofthe Iranian naon to change the ruling regime. But your resistancerestored that right with pride.

It is said that no American court has in the past two hundred yearsissued a writ of mandamus on maers of naonal security and foreignpolicy.

Nevertheless, a movement that has sacriced everything for the

cause of freedom and liberaon of its naon lit the light of truth andjusce in the depths of darkness.

I had said before that We will pluck out the rights of the Iranianpeople even if you hide them in the dragons belly.

Now, we have not come to chasse this shameful designaon andpolicy. We have come to say that this policy must be uprooted in itsenrety.

Indeed, were it not for Members of the House and the Senate and

disnguished former U.S. ocials rising in support of the Iranianpeople, the Iranian Resistance and the Ashraes, what would haveremained of the 33-year U.S. policy towards the mullahs except thedisgrace of appeasement?

An unparalleled biparsan coalion of Americans has challenged theocial U.S. policy and is honorably and courageously defending thePMOIs delisng and Ashraes. We idenfy the United States throughsuch personalies.

It is, of course, my hope that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clintonwould turn this oppressive and unfair page in the history of U.S. policyand personally bring an end to this unlawful designaon.

The mullahs ruling Iran or their accomplices have throughout the years

repeatedly said and wrien that members of the Iranian Resistancetorture and murder themselves.

They alleged that this is a sect suering from a cult of personality, and it lacks popular support inside Iran. They have also said that thePMOI has murdered the Kurds and massacred the Shiites in Iraq. TheResistance, they have contended, has hidden chemical weapons inCamp Ashraf and 70 percent of Ashraf residents have been kept thereagainst their will.

Such slanders have emanated from the terrorist label and have servedto preserve the mullahs regime.

Sll it was only the suering and perseverance of the Resistancemovement which broke through such a colonial and reaconary siegeand onslaught against the Iranian peoples Resistance.

This is the rst me that a movement has succeeded in its own lifeme, through much sacrice and by raising awareness, and of course

by abiding by internaonal law, to go before the courts in Europeand the United States and succeed in freeing itself from the heavyburden of lies and slander.

We have indeed succeeded in pung an end to the suppressivesiege against the Resistance, while elevang the standards ofjusce in the contemporary world, breaking apart the cycle of

slander and ruse, and heralding a new plan and a new chapter.

This plan and roadmap is based on transparency, truth and jusce, respect for mankinds achievements and virtues, encouragingthe return of internaonal instuons to defending humanrights, restoring the rights of the people and reviving the value ofresistance and sacrice.

Indeed, the force of humanity and jusce has come to the fore, and history has turned a page. Dictators are falling one aeranother and therefore policies which preserved them must alsochange. We have the wherewithal to bring about that change andwe will realize it.

This is the meaning of a change in our era and the era of change.

The change in our era also manifests itself in the Iranian Resistancestriumphant shaering of the mul-faceted conspiracies by theIranian regime and its puppet government in Iraq.

Over the past year there was a plan to dismantle and destroythe PMOI. A deadline was established to annihilate the residentsof Ashraf. A seven-point pact was struck between Tehran andBaghdad to either force this movement into surrender or todestroy it altogether.

Today, I am delighted to tell you and the great naon of Iran that, with Gods blessing, the resistance movement against the clericalregime, which symbolizes the heroic struggles in Irans history, hasbeen saved from being pillaged, massacred and destroyed. Andnow, in order to carry out its historic mandate, it is hundreds ofmes more eecve, resolute and solidied.

So, much to the chagrin of the enemy, Ashraf has mulplied and

    uu

Owing to the conspiracies of the

    religious fascism ruling Iran, the

    repeated breaches of the Iraqi

government and the passivity of theUnited Naons and the United States,

what was supposed to be a voluntary

    relocaon became a forcible transfer.

The change in our era also manifests

    itself in the Iranian Resistances

    triumphant shaering of the

    mul-faceted conspiracies by the

    Iranian regime and its puppet

    government in Iraq.

    there are now countless Ashraes.

In recent months, in order to neutralize the conspiracies of themullahs regime and its puppet government in Baghdad, thePMOI accepted relocaon from Camp Ashraf in the framework

of an internaonal soluon.Nevertheless, owing to the conspiracies of the religious fascismruling Iran, the repeated breaches of the Iraqi government andthe passivity of the United Naons and the United States, whatwas supposed to be a voluntary relocaon became a forcibletransfer.

The Memorandum of Understanding signed between Iraq andthe UN [in December 2011] lacks the minimum demands of theresidents of Ashraf.

In simple terms, instead of Liberty being turned into a prison,it should be classied as a refugee camp; water, electricity andother humanitarian needs of the residents should be provided;the interference in the Resistances aairs by an enemy seeking

to destroy this movement must be halted; and nally, becauseof the recent claim [made by the State Departments lawyers]that the Camp Ashraf has not been fully disarmed, either Ashrafshould be inspected or at least that statement must be retracted.

Despite all the conspiracies carried out by the Iranian regime, theIranian Resistance stands by all of its previous commitments. ThisResistance has paid the price of advancing this path in full andwill connue on this path, demonstrang its full cooperaon andunderstanding with the United Naons.

Thus far we have shown and connue to demonstrate thehighest degrees of exibility on the condion that the residentsprotecon, security, safety and dignity are guaranteed. However,it is our hope that the United Naons and the United States will

stand by their own commitments as well.I call upon all European countries, the United States and Canadato acvely work to protect the residents of Ashraf and Liberty, toaccept them in their countries and to avert another catastrophe. The changes in this era, realized in virtue of a painful perseveranceand resistance, call for internaonal instuons to restore theirprincipal responsibilies, namely the protecon of human rights.

The three recent rounds of nuclear negoaons between theP5+1 and the mullahs regime ended in failure and deadlock.President Obamas four-year policy of engagement has failed.

Ten years ago, the Iranian Resistance exposed the clandesnenuclear sites in the cies of Natanz and Arak. Sadly, Westerncountries wasted a signicant 10-year opportunity. For over

a decade, they connued to provide the regime with anassortment of incenves, appeasing and engaging the mullahsduring fruitless negoaons.

So far, there have been 37 rounds of talks; talks for the sake oftalks with a regime that has violated seven UN Security Councilresoluons and is stockpiling at least 200 kilograms of enricheduranium each month.

In recent months, the policy of engagement has taken on newshapes, such as repeang the hollow noon that perhaps theruling religious dictatorship has not yet made the decision tobuild the bomb. The other proclamaon is that aer obtainingthe bomb, perhaps the mullahs can simply be contained.

The ulmate result of this duplicity is only one thing: leng thereligious fascism obtain the bomb.

Those involved in this process say that they aim to engage themullahs. But they are following a desperate policy: one of prayingand weeping, and trumpeng the demagogic fatwa by Khamenei

    uu

that nuclear weapons are prohibited. This indicates a feigningignorance toward the mullahs who are racing to take the nal steps.

Thwarng the dangers of a nuclear mullah regime is possible. Theonly way to do so is to change the mullahs dictatorship, which is the

responsibility of the Iranian people and the Resistance. So, if one genuinely does not intend to hand over a nuclear bomb tothe mullahs, one must stand with the Iranian peoples resistance totopple this regime and recognize their demands for an Iran that isfree of suppression, and is non-nuclear and non-theocrac.

And nally, I want to address my daughters and sons in Iran abouttheir roles and responsibilies in the new era.

The 1979 revoluon came to fruion with the sacrice of Iransyoung generaon. The July 1999 uprising and the magnicent2009 uprisings were the outcome of young peoples protests anddisenchantment. And undoubtedly, the Iranian naons Spring willblossom through their enthusiasm and force.

To thwart the young peoples eorts, the mullahs have erecteda thick and tall wall of suppression that is unprecedented in thecontemporary world. The mullahs regime intends to promulgate

the idea that paying a pricefor freedom is fule andthat the model to followmust be one that does notexact any price. They wantto force Iranian youth intobelieving that there isnothing they can do andevery eort for struggle isfule.

I want to tell our youth that

you are not alone. You arerelying on an organized

resistance movement, which has in the past three decades kept theame of resistance for freedom burning in the face of the mullahsmedieval suppression.

Ours is a movement built on the ideal of freedom, which ever sinceKhomeini stole the revoluon, has drawn its boundaries againstregress, monopoly of power and dictatorship. It is a movementwhose leader rejected all pseudo-leist pretensions and dened thecrux of the maer as far as the Iranian revoluon is concerned as theideal of freedom.

We are following a path that is leading towards the revival of the

ideal of freedom and the revival of humanity and humane values. In virtue of this loy horizon, many complicaons in the realm ofpolics, path of struggle and ideas have already been resolved andset aside..

I reiterate that the aim of this movement has never been and is notto obtain power at all costs. Our aim is to guarantee freedom anddemocracy at all costs.

And our plaorm is summed up in three words: Freedom, democracyand equality.

Liberated women of Iran, teachers, educators, students, workers andtoilers who are forced to endure the growing pressures of high pricesand other forms of privaon as well as reaconary imposions, andyou brave young people of Iran, the me has come to rise up.

I call upon all of you to rise up to free our enchained people andnaon.

The key to victory is the word freedom, the glorious ideal offreedom.

    The key to victory

    is the word

    freedom,

    the glorious ideal

    of freedom.

Ive been involved in the eort toensure liberty, freedom, jusce, andsafety for the residents of Ashraf fora year now and during that me my own State Department has told us manythings that are untrue and that are misrepresentaons. When I learned that my country, the United States, had signed a contract witheach and every resident of Ashraf that if they gave up their weapons, whichthey did, we would oer them and guarantee them protecon and I looked atthat tape of the April 8, 2011 massacre and I didnt see one American soldier

protecng anybody; in fact I saw the Iraqi police using American weapons,American trucks, and American vehicles to kill innocent people, including eightwomen, and that was enough for me.We have got to stand with Ashraf. The Ashras in Liberty and in Ashraf have toknow that we are with them.I am ashamed of my government. My government has failed to protect theresidents of Ashraf. My government has failed to delist the PMOI, notwithstandingthe fact that England and the European Union did just that. And my governmenthas failed to be fair. You hear comments from the State Department pung allthe blame for any road block on the residents and not on the government ofIraq. Its me for usthe United Statesto stand up. Its me for us to do ourjob, to honor our commitment.

As Deputy SecretaryGeneral of the United Naons, I wouldstrongly argue that the UN and its ocialsmust keep a total neutrality. It is unacceptable that Tehran can inuence

It is unacceptable topraise the Iraqi government and place theresidents of Ashraf and Liberty in front ofhuman rights violaons, saying to those inAshraf: either you get slaughtered or you goto Liberty. It is unacceptable that none of the promisesmade to these people have been kept. I want to just say to all of you that is agreat crowd, as good as any in America,in the Republican or Democracconvenon! The people of Iran deservea democrac government. They deserve to have freedom and democracy. The presence of this huge audience in this hall is the best evidence of the desireof the Iranian people for democrac change. Democrac change in Iran is inthe interest of the world, of the internaonal community, but also with globalpeace and security. So my country, America, has to become a leader on thisissue. There have been a lot of disnguished leaders that you will hear from theRepublican and Democrac Party, policians, aorney generals, militaryleaders, academics, but also disnguished leaders from the European Union, from Lan America that you will hear from soon. But my country must send avery clear message to Tehran.First and foremost again, and it has to happen within four months, a decision

the MEK needs to be delisted. The MEK has provided valuable informaonand intelligence to America. Theyve been on the side of freedom. Theres noreason why this shouldnt happen. Secondly, Americas leadership in the worldand the UN should demand that the MEK members in Camp Ashraf and Libertymust be supported in every single way.

Good to see so many women.

    Its not normal in polical

    gatherings.

    Dear Mrs. Rajavi, by careful

    listening to your speech the

    passion and determinaon

that I saw, I felt in every single

word that this is the me for

great women leaders. This week and in the next few

    days here in Paris, another

    great woman, Aung San Suu

    Kyi is vising Europe aer

    so many years of nonviolent

    struggle and shes coming I

think at the beginning of a

    hope for freedom, democracy

and liberty in her own country.

Just look around, you will see a

lot of great women leader. And

you have one. So, be proud of

her. Im proud also to tell you

that there is a delegaon here

    of the Italian Parliament from

the Senate and the House of

    Representaves.

    Thats why Im simply saying,

    that we in the Transnaonal

    Nonviolent Radical Party, will

be with you as well as we

    are with all other oppressed

    people in the world. Because

    freedom and dignity have no

boundary. They are simplyuniversal human rights. So

    friends, you have a great

leader. Take care of her. She

    will denitely lead you.

    Emma BoninoVice-President of ItalianSenate

    This is the me

    for great womenleaders

Its about me that the USA, the European Union and

all the countries of the world stand together with

one very powerful voice and powerful argument:

Regime change in Iran. The people of Egypt overthrew

Mubarak. The people of Libya overthrew Kadda. The

people of Syria are aempng to overthrow Assad.

Theyve all been praised as freedom ghters. What

about the people of Iran? You seek to overthrow the

most oppressive regime in the region. Why are those

countries that supported overthrow of those regimes

not supporng the overthrow of the Iranian mullahs?

The reason is fear, appeasement. The reason is we

cling to the misguided noon that we can talk to the

mullahs, we can negoate with them. Well, they dont

want to talk to us. They use discussions as a pretext so

that they can develop nuclear armaments. This Iranian

regime is the single biggest state sponsor of terrorism

in the world. Its the most extreme regime, its been

the most brutal to its own people. And it is seeking

to become a nuclear power, which will destabilizethe enre region. Wouldnt this world be safer with

an Iran that is dedicated to democracy, to freedom,

freedom for women, for all people, to the rule of law?

And unlike these other places: Egypt, Libya, Syria,

theres an alternave right now that exists here and in

Iran to replace this regime with all of you.

And lets say to the people in Ashraf and in the other

camp who are listening to us, youre not alone, youre

not forgoen. You will never be alone or forgoen.

Anything and everything that happens to you we will

know, we will stand with you. We will protect you. Andwe look forward to a me when you are free and we

can all join you in Iran with freedom and democracy

    and the rule of law.

Rudy GiulianiMayor of New York (1994-2001)

Its about me that the USA, the EU

and all the countries of the world stand

together with one very powerful voice

and argument: Regime change in Iran

Rita SussmuthFormer President of theGerman Bundestag

I hope that many people in Ashraf, in

Liberty and in Iran can hear or see us.

What this aernoon shows, is the need

of emoon, struggle for freedom and

many people who are in solidarity for

a good idea and they do not give up. I

am very happy that there are so many

women here. Always it is said that

women do not ght much, but for agood cause they like to ght, long and

    with great paence and resisvity.

I want to emphasize again, the residents

of camp Ashraf and Liberty have shown

their best sake, that despite the much

    worse condions they have moved.

They can not be cricized, they have

    not been uncooperave. But all

promises that were made have not

been fullled for them. Whether the

water, electricity, help for a lile shade

from the sun, or medical treatment.

The humanitarian basic needs are not

solved. And to this we have to say no and

express our outrage. And I will repeat

what already several people have said

before me here it is not the queson to

    disnguish between terrorists or not

terrorists. But it is about human sense,

as like for all people there is a universal

    legal protecon, security and humanity.

With the judgment of the Federal

    Appellate Court in Washington, we

can hope that in four months, the

Americans say a clear no to the list. Toght for freedom is worth it, and I want

to call on all not to give up unl not only

these refugees but all Iran will be free.

Just a few days ago in Moscow, they nished

the latest negoaons with the regime in

Tehran over its nuclear weapons program. This

is the latest in the worlds longest running game

    of charade.

Ten years these negoaons have gone on.

And for ten years the regime in Tehran has

    outnegoated Europe, outnegoated the

United States, and outnegoated the UnitedNaons. We are on the verge of a very

dangerous event if the mullahs achieve their

long sought objecve of deliverable nuclear

    weapons.

And that is why I think it is high me for the

United States to make it its open and declared

policy that we must overthrow the mullahs in

    Tehran.

I have served in the execuve branch of our

government. I have had access to informaon

about terrorist organizaons. And like many

colleagues of mine, some of whom you will

hear from today, who have seen the so-

called evidence about the MEK there is no

juscaon, and there never was, for it to be

    put on that list.

It was put on in the late 1990s under the belief

that it would placate the mullahs in Tehran. That

was wrong. It was kept on the list in 2008 under

the impression it would placate the mullahs in

Tehran. That was wrong too. The facts need to

lead where they lead. Let the facts fall where

they may. If there were evidence of terrorist

acvity let the State Department present it to

the courts. They havent done that yet.Whatever happens on the nuclear front, the

only long-term soluon, the only way out of the

dilemma that the world faces is to overthrow

    the mullahs in Tehran.

Ambassador John BoltonUS Ambassador to the UnitedNations (2005-2006)

It is high me for the US to make

it its declared policy that we must

    overthrow the mullahs in Tehran

The court told the State Department of the

United States that it must make a decision by

October 1 as to whether it will remove MEK

from the list of foreign terrorist organizaons.

A designaon that the European Union and

the UK have long since removed. Now I dont

usually speculate on the meaning of court

    decisions beyond their precise terms.

But I will tell you, in the privacy of this smallroom, that this decision has the potenal

to achieve an excellent eect, which is to

give the State Department a face-saving

way to remove the designaon that never

should have been there. I will tell you

also, that I believe the willingness of many

people here, and many who are not here,

to put their good names on the line and to

support delisng had a meaningful eect on

that court decision. I dont believe that the

court would have felt comfortable telling

the State Department that unless it makes

up its mind to the contrary, by October 1,

based on some evidence that it hasnt thus

far disclosed, MEK will be delisted. The court

would not have felt comfortable reaching

that conclusion unless it had felt that no

harm could come from the decision. And

the people who put their names on the

line and led a friend of the court brief in

support of delisng, former governors and

military people and Cabinet ocers and law

professors and others, helped give them that

    comfort level and condence.

Im also here to tell you that those people,we who stood up for you in the past and

stood up for the residents in the past, will

not relent. We will not relent unl what

    should happen does happen.

We, who stood up for you in the

past will not relent, we will not

    relent unl what should happen

    does happen

Judge Michael MukaseyThe 81st Attorney General of the UnitedStates

We made a fateful choice. We made

    an agreement with the United

Naons to send people to Camp

Liberty. And on its honor, with its

    sacred honor, the United Naons

    pledged that peoples lives would

be safe, their needs for water and

    electricity and medical care would

get met. We are honorable people, and we agreed.

We are prepared for every last

person to leave Ashraf. We do not

stall. We do not wait. We want

    people in Camp Liberty because

from there the ght goes on when

we relocate people to Europe. We

kept our promise in moving people

to Camp Liberty. You keep your

promise in keeping people safe and

    secure with basic humanitarian

needs. This is the least the United

Naons can do. Keep your word.

    We kept ours.

The years will pass. Others may

    forget. But as a generaons

go by your children and their

childrens children will sit on their

grandparents knees and it will be

said that when Iran was enslaved,

    when others cowered, when others

had fear, your family stood tall.

    You remembered what Persia had

been. You know what Iran could

be. Your family had courage andstrength. You stood with Madame

Rajavi. You stood tall. You fought

for a free Iran. Never give up. Never

We all know how much the Iranian

people and members of the Resistance

who are here or in Ashraf have suered

unjust and repressive behavior of the

past right-wing governments. It must be

stopped and the Iranian Resistance andits President-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi,

should nally be recognized. I regret the

    silence of the Special Representave

of the Secretary General of the UN in

Iraq before the Iraqi government which

claims -in violaon of internaonal law-

that these people of Ashraf have no

status. We solemnly warn against this

kind of posion, which can only be the

    prelude to another massacre.

We are embiered by reports that the

Special Representave of the UN could

have discussed the fate of opponents

of Ashraf with the Iranian regime. It

For me it is an emoonal moment, to haveoen parcipated - here in these rallies, butoen with my colleague representaves of ValdOise - in your gatherings and to support youin your struggle. A fair struggle, a tough one,a struggle that raises our admiraon for thecourage you and the Iranian Resistance show,by the tenacity that is yours. So far I brought this support as mayor of ValdOise, today I join Jean-Pierre Michel andmany parliamentary socialists to support youon behalf of the naonal representaon. I think

in the new Socialist Group today we are manyto consider that France must regain its lostplace in the world, that it must take a strongposion in parcular in regard to the future ofIran, the future of the Iranian people, to returnto democracy, it must follow the necessaryprocess to stop the development of nuclearweapons in Iran and France should intervenethere as elsewhere.Further I like to express that here we arecondent that your struggle which youconnued for 30 years, will win. All dictatorshipscome to an end one day, we should alwaysght. We need to solve urgently the problem ofAshraf residents, we will ask the Frenchgovernment to ensure that all guarantees willbe given to the residents of Ashraf and CampLiberty

    All guarantees must be given

to the residents of Ashraf and

    Camp Liberty

What gathers us today in Paris, is our

    absolute solidarity with the heroic

people of Iran. The challenge we havetogether, with President Maryam Rajavi

is to abolish the mullahs dictatorship,

is to put an end to religious fascism and

to oer to Iran and the Iranian people

a democrac and secular future where

everybody will be free to believe or

not believe in a faith. Our dream of

freedom must become a nightmare for

    the mullahs. The Peoples Mojahedins

dignity is to resist, whatever the price

    will be.

    To resist,whatever theprice will be

A new transfer to Camp Liberty

must not take place unl theminimum requirments of the

    residents of this camp have

    been answered

of the vicms. This is a red line that

should not have been crossed; it is

an indelible stain on the UN and its

    secretariat.

Finally, we believe that a new transfer

to Camp Liberty must not take place

unl the minimum demands of the

residents of this camp have been

answered. Iran is now on the threshold

of a turning decision. France has its

role to play by deliberately placing

itself on the side of the Iranian people

who suer and on the side of their

organized resistance of the NCRI and

    its president, Maryam Rajavi.

Icannot think of anything that is dierent. That is so wrongto say that she represents a cult. She has respect and loveof thousands and thousands of people and I see it heretoday.

The opposion is alive and well

I am here for my fundamental believe indemocracy and fair play. And that appliesto people all around the world including

those in Camp Ashraf. There is simple reason that Iranian regimeis pung pressure on the residents ofCamp Ashraf, they are scared. They arescared because there is an opposion. And that opposion is alive and well, beit in Camp Ashraf or be it here today atthis conference. So fundamentally theydo not want this to connue and they donot want people to connue to opposethem. We are here today to show themthat there is an opposion and there is analternave way for Iran and its people.

But what is chilling is that a representave of U.S. State Department in theUnited States had indicated that they supported that delegaon going toBrussels.

That says a lot about the absence of any principle to approach on thepart of US State Department. That must stop, especially in the light of theCourt of Appeals ruling in Washington D.C. The State Department is slldragging its heels but they are given limited period of me to delist unl

TheSpecial Representave of the SecretaryGeneral is expected to react to violaon ofresidents fundamental rights. He also mustvehemently stand against any interferenceof the Iranian regime in the fate of asylumseekers who have escaped its rule because

this would be a violaon of refugee law.As long as the mullahs are allowed suchinterference in this maer, improvement inthe situaon of Liberty is impossible.Three years ago in 2009 these days, the Iransspring could have born fruit, if the West wasnot silent and supported it through praccalmeans and clear voice. While the US Appeals Court like Europe hasdeclared its opinion for removing of MEK

    Parliamentary Assemblyof Council of Europe

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi,President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran,

I am honored to present to you the statement signed by thousands of mycolleagues in the European Parliament, Parliamentary Assembly of theCouncil of Europe and national parliaments of 46 countries from vecontinents across the world, including the signatures of the majority membersof 20 parliaments in support of the resistance under your leadership and indefense of the rights of Camps Ashraf and Liberty residents. I assure you thatwe will make every eort to safeguard their safety and security.

We regard this as a profoundly humanitarian responsibility and a vitalpolitical priority. We believe wholeheartedly that you and all women andmen under your leadership, including the residents of Ashraf and Liberty,

represent the hope for the future of your nation and are the best guarantee fordemocracy and peace in Iran and the whole of the Middle East region.

On behalf of all our colleagues, we warned the Iraqi Governments seniorocials earlier this week to stop turning Camp Liberty into a prison andunderscored that the residents transfer to Liberty will continue upon the

fulllment their minimum demands articulated in six items.

We have explicitly urged the US Government, the European Union and theUnited Nations to take initiative in order to fulll these minimum demandsand to refrain from resolving the problems at the expense of the residents ashas been the case in the past. Any solution based on such an approach wouldbe untenable and would only encourage the Iranian regime and the Iraqi

Government to resort to violence and step up the violation of the residentsrights. We particularly impressed upon the US Government to implementthe order of the US Court of Appeals and remove the Peoples MojahedinOrganization of Iran (PMOI) from the Foreign Terrorist Organizationslist immediately as this designation has acted as a key factor in the violenceagainst, and the murder of, the residents.

We rearm our commitment to support your ideals and to urge ourgovernments to recognize your movement as the democratic alternative to thetheocracy ruling Iran.

Watch Mr. Maliki what you do in Ashraf and Liberty, because probably one day

you will like to visit Europe, and we will treat you exactly in the same way you

treat the people of Ashraf and Liberty

As Mr. Maliki sent a delegaon to the European Parliament, we understand he wants to talk to us;he wants to cooperate with us. And as Mr. Maliki is watching us now by satellite television, I have amessage for him: You want to talk with us, we talk to you. You want to discuss with us construcvely,we will discuss with you construcvely. You want to cooperate with us; we are ready to cooperatewith you. But please, if you want to do all this with us, do not send us criminals to do that. Becauseour idea of what to do with criminals is dierent from yours, Mr. Prime Minister. You put them inresponsibilies of command of your forces. We send them to prison. So, if you want to engage with us,

we are ready. But watch what you do in Ashraf and Liberty, because probably one day you will like tovisit Europe, and we will treat you exactly in the same way you treat the people of Ashraf and Liberty.

    We do not welcome

    alleged murderers in theEuropean Parliament.

Last weekend I receivednocaon that the Iraqiembassy in Brussels had sent alist of 14 names of senior Iraqiswho were apparently goingto come to Brussels and wereasking for a meeng. This listcontained the deputy foreignminister, and the name ofGeorge Bakoos from the oceof the prime minister. It alsocontained several prominentmembers of military andintelligence, including thenotorious Colonel Sadiq, nowthe commanding ocer inCamp Liberty. Colonel Sadiqhas been indicted by the judgesin Spain for his complicity in thealleged murder of 47 peoplein the two massacres in CampAshraf and his involvement intorture and oppression. So, I immediately gave

instrucons that this manmust be stopped from enteringthe European Parliament. Hemust have his security badgeremoved. And I waited in themeeng room on Tuesday, waing for this delegaonfrom Iraq to arrive. And theywere 20 minutes late becausewhen they arrived at the doorof the European Parliamentthe security ocials strippedColonel Sadiq of his securitypass and they would not allowhim in the building.Ladies and gentlemen, wedo not welcome allegedmurderers in the EuropeanParliament. We have sent a lesson back toIraq, because Colonel Sadiq wasarrested here in Paris. And hehas now been released on bail.He has returned to Iraq, but Ican assure you Nouri Al-Malikiwill think twice before he sendssomeone like that to Brussels

again. There is no point in trying toappease the mullahs in Tehran.Regime change is the onlyanswer.

I also want to stress to you we fully understand and

follow, on a daily basis, exactly whats going on in camp

Ashraf and camp Liberty, and the severe deprivaon

they imposed on those who already transferred to

camp Liberty and the extreme pressure they put on

those sll in camp Ashraf to make that move which is

totally unacceptable. Liberty sll is not recognized as a

refugee camp, clearly it is not a transit camp.

The current condions there, the prison like condions,

the fact that the residents are not allowed to bring

the movable property with them from Ashraf are

    unacceptable.

The presence of dignitaries from the United

of Iran the United States has a crucial role.

Support of polical elites now is absolutely

bigger than few years ago. And such support

for people of Ashraf and Liberty is very

    important.

The recent victory of PMOI in the court in

the United Stats is also very important. I

believe the court order could pave the way

for polical decision by the US government.

I think this is a turning point and I think the

US government will change its point of view

on the issue of lisng of PMOI. I do not know

when but I hope as soon as possible.

    I believe the internaonal community,

Its a privilege to be here with youthis aernoon. As I look back, it isabsolutely clear to me that the Iranianregime uses terror as a means toaccomplish its polical and ideologicalobjecves. Theyve done it in Iraq, theyve done it elsewhere in the region

and theres no doubt in my mind thatthey will connue to do it.I got to Iraq in July, 2004, just as theme that the MEK were receiving theirprotected status. I will tell you, weclosely monitored the acvies thereat Camp Ashraf because we felt verystrongly that we needed to honor theagreement that had been made by mypredecessor to protect the MEK thereat Camp Ashraf. We set up a system where we didweekly reviews. And my threegenerals who led those reviews for me

are probably familiar to some of you:General Miller, General Brandenburgand General Gardiner.Never, never in any of those briengswas I informed of any adverse acvityby the MEK. In fact, close cooperaonwas all that we ever received. And sofrom that perspecve I watched withgrave concern the events of 2009 and2011, those tragic events. And they only reinforced to me whatI believe is the best opportunity foreveryone, the rapid and safe removal

of the MEK from Iraq. And I can tellyou that I rmly believe that the bestway to facilitate this is the removalof the MEK from the list of terroristorganizaons.

The mullahs have played the nuclear

negoaons as a game, and they have won

because they have bought more me for the

nuclear program. Sancons, while they are

now having a signicant eect in terms of the

disrupon of the economy, they have not yet

translated into any real impact on the nuclear

program. More and even tougher sancons

    are necessary.

Nuclear weapons will give the mullahs

condence that they can pursue their

aggressive agenda in the region and beyond.

As with all authoritarian governments, the

people are the main threat. These regimes

lack legimacy. They are despised by their

own people. They must control their people

only by force. And this takes me to my second

conclusions. It is you, the people of Iran, who

    must overthrow this regime.

We must instead of appeasement andaccommodaon protect the lives of those in

Camp Ashraf and Camp Liberty who remain in

    constant danger.

We need to delist the MEK, not only because it

is the legally appropriate thing to do, it is also

smart policy. The mullahs have branded the

resistance movements here today as public

enemy number one. And the reason is clear,

the people here today ulmately will play a

vital role in achieving freedom and democracy

in Iran, and freedom and democracy are the

greatest fears and the greatest threat to themullahs. To Mrs. Rajavi and to the tens of

thousands of people here today, as well as

literally the millions who are here with us in

spirit, Godspeed in your noble cause.

General James ConwayIn 1979, I was a young Marine captain glued to the news every night at the me of the revolt againstthe Shah. One evening an American news report came on and the anchor said, You must see this.

It was a grainy lm taken from the second story of a building that showed a row of Iranian soldiers, maybe ve or six sweeping through. It showed a civilian, probably Secret Service, and wearing a

holster and a radio, whose pistol was whipping I believe it was a woman and a small child up againsta building. Tough to tell because of the nature of the video. As those soldiers swept through, onewhen he came abreast of this beang that was taking place turned and red his weapon. Shot the

man, I think he clipped his spine and hit his heart with the same shot because he was dead beforehe hit the pavement. The American anchor said, Ladies and gentlemen, that is a seminal event. Ifthe Army does not support the Shah, the Shah is done. That solider did not act alone and I believehe acted on orders. Within two weeks the Shah was seeking asylum. Ladies and gentlemen, I prayfor you that in the coming months and years that we were able to see or hear or read about thatseminal event on the streets of Tehran as you take back your country.

I knew if we had encountered an ambush and aack like was seen in 2009,

2011 on Camp Ashraf, and my soldiers and Marines were fallen, the members

of the former NLA would have rushed to our rescue as quickly as they ran to

their comrades. The residents of Ashraf and Liberty proved their resolve to

democracy and to each other every day. Despite all the horrors cast uponthem since 2009, not one person has broken ranks. Give them a round of applause. They stand

rmly together. We must stand rmly with them. Somemes great people are hard to nd. But notat Ashraf and Liberty, for they are 3,400 strong standing rmly together. Like the bale for Britain,

history will remember this dark me as Iranian democracys nest hour. My brothers and sisters at

Ashraf and Liberty, we were together on the desert of Diyala province. We are together today and

we will be together always. And one day, together in our lifemes, we will witness freedom and

Maryam Rajavi and friends, let us stand and honor the brave souls that live in

Well, let me tell you, it was my responsibility

and our former Prime Minister, John

Bruton, as a democrat, as a fellow human

being who hopes that all of us can share

in the same dreams for our futures. Some

of us have freedom and some of us who

have that freedom have forgoen thejourney that we took to arrive where we

    are today.

The democracy we have is the envy of

many parts of our world. And we have

a responsibility to the people who went

before us, who struggled for that freedom

and the people who will come aer us,

our grandchildren, to help people like

the people of Iran to achieve freedom

also. Today I know I am very privileged

to speak at a conference aended by

tens of thousands of people and spokentoday by so many parliamentarians from

around the world. I have listened with

great interest to the discussion, but the

talk of powerful people must be followed

    by powerful acon.

and the right to life for 3,400 people who are currently conned in Ashraf and

    in Camp Liberty.

One of the reasons that so many people are here, so many young people inparcular are here, is polical. They want to see a democrac Iran. Is there any

country in Europe that could gather so many young people together for democracy,to protect democracy in their own country? Probably not. But the people of Iran

want democracy. The people of Iran are entled to democracy, and the people of

Iran will get democracy as a result. The people of
