Time and Time and Time Again "Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by
the seeds that you plant." Robert Louis Stevenson
When we enter earthly life, we find ourselves borne
along by three qualitatively different streams of time.
These we tend to experience largely unconsciously,
until in exceptional moments we find ourselves awake
to the immediate present. In such a state, we become
aware of these streams of time in a way which can be
enormously liberating.
Firstly is the ‘spirit of the times’, that staged evolution
of human capacities and of consciousness. “Particular
epochs have their own particular tasks.” Steiner
characterised our time as a time of universalism,
cosmopolitanism, of a strongly developing s
elf-consciousness, when the external authority of
tradition and state would no longer serve human
interests. The spirit of our times supports individuals
who develop free, discerning powers of judgement and
courage and initiative for the benefit of all – these
would become paramount if human values are to
prevail.
Secondly the seasonal transformations in nature
throughout the course of the year are reflected in our
soul lives. In Summer, our hearts and minds develop
potent forces of self-ripening but there is also an
accumulation of dross to discard in Autumn, and if we
cast this at our own feet, like deciduous trees, we
provide the circumstances for new life in Spring. In
Winter the atmosphere acquires a crystalline clarity
born of the absence of nature’s activity, where we
quietly see in ourselves what we can’t see amidst the
distractions of the plethora of sense impressions in
Spring and Summer.
Thirdly we find ourselves immersed in a twenty-four
hour cyclic rhythm which we even allow to shape the
school day in Steiner schools. We are awake in our
thinking faculties in the earlier part of the day and then
in our feeling lives when exercise of emotional
intelligence and practice lessons are engaged in –
lessons which I don’t have to ‘think’ about so much as
feel my way into – and subsequently, we awaken right
down into our bodily organism, seeking physical bodily
activity and exercise in the afternoons.
Every age, each season of the year, each time of the day
offers us unique opportunities and dangers. We must
learn not to expect more of our selves than the time of
day supports, not to expect our best thinking late in the
day or the exercise of our highest emotional intelligence
first thing in the morning or last thing at night. In
autumn we must focus our power of judgement on our
own superfluous ‘Summer’ growth, our inauthenticities
– excess limbs to be pruned and leaves to be gathered
around our roots for our transformation in Spring, not
to scatter them as debris in the path of others. In our
age we need to experience the spiritual incarceration of
materialism to catalyse our courage and initiative for
genuine freedom and the authentic love, that can only
be born out of that experience, and on which our true
humanity depends.

Class 7 Ropes Camp The Class 7 Ropes Camp
started with a bus journey
through the mist to arrive at the summit of Kunanyi.
The whole camp was shrouded in mist but this did not
deter the determined Class 7 children.
The walked, solved initiative
games, swung across a deadly
swamp, and climbed all manner
of obstacles (with climbing har-
nesses of course).
We were all impressed by the
students' willingness to help
and support each other. And
their culinary skills were next to
none!
A big thank you to Qug, Greg, Ildiko, Dave and Heather
(from Fusion).

Funeral for a friend Class 5 participated in the burial of
an old chook who died at
lunchtime on Wednesday 21st. It
is interesting, they were the class
to inherit / acquire the flock
including this lovely old girl two
years ago when they were in Class 3. The chooks, who
now live in the orchard, were initially in the round yard
behind Class 3 and were kindly donated to the
school; so the then Class 3 were the initial careers. I
remember them naming the birds. Chai Chai was one
who was very friendly and happy to sit on a lap or
shoulder.
The students wanted to hold a funeral for ‘Chai
Chai’ and so we buried her with a ceremony behind the
horticulture garden sheds. They sang and spoke and
respectfully decorated the grave, even cleaning up
rubbish around the area. They planned and completed
the ceremony and even rehearsed the parts they
wanted to present. Josh wrote and sang a song and
others spoke of this well loved chook.
I was present for most of the celebration of her life and
was moved by the commitment the students showed;
working and holding the space as a group. They
recognised the importance of the moment. I returned
at one point to find them all, arms around each other,
singing Cowen’s Hallelujah.
A head stone has been erected to accompany the
flowers and cross to mark the grave.
Well done Class 5.

Archaeological Dig Site Class 10 created an archaeological site for future classes
to dig up as part of their Early Human Societies Main
Lesson.

Class Parents for 2019 The P&F are compiling a list of class parents for 2019.
Each class should have a class parent to nurture the
social aspect of the class for the year and to be involved
in any P&F associated gatherings for the school, the
main one being the Spring Fair.
If you are the Class parent or know who your Class
parent is , please let KRIS know at:
P&F Gatherings for 2019 This year the committee are asking the different classes
to help with our different events throughout the year.
For example Class 4 helped the P&F run the Welcome
BBQ. Each year Class 4 will help run this event. We are
aiming to compile a booklet for each event, so there is
an easy transition each year. It is so wonderful to have
the extra help at these wonderful community events,
and takes the pressure of the small P&F group.
Upcoming gatherings are: Working Bee catering, Easter
Market BBQ, Grandparent’s Day café, and Cake stall.
Any queries please email Amanda:
Parent and Friends Meetings We always welcome new members to the P&F. If you
