SECTION 2: LET’S PRACTICE

Now, you will write an article on the history of a music genre following the writing process step:

The History of Reggae Music

Reggae music was first started in the 1960’s in Jamaica. It is a combination of ska and rocksteady music, but the beat is a slower tempo than regular Jamaican music. It is easily recognized by the guitar rhythm.

The meaning of reggae refers to the ‘rags or ragged clothing’ worn by the musicians. Bob Marley, the most famous Reggae artist, said that the word came from a Spanish term for “the king’s music”.

5. Now, choose a music genre from the box and brainstorm what you know about the genre. Use the time line to organize your information and ideas.

to write about this style? Why is this style especially important for you?

SECTION 3: Let’s construct and apply our knowledge

Step III: Revising7. Revise your work. Remember these points:

a) Keep it simple. Do not use “flowery language”, or overly complex sentences.

b) Write about the past in the Past tense. Remember the sequence of events.

c) Avoid writing in the first person (I, we).

8. Reread your article and make sure that it makes sense.

your article is ok.

SECTION 4: Sponge Activity11. Write sentences to express your preferences regarding five different music genres. You can use the ones from the previous exercises or add your own. Ex. I like punk because it’s fast and loud.

I don’t like reggae because it’s too slow.
