Principals Newsletter Week 8 Term 4, 28th November Welcome Baby Zepplan a new little brother for Angus and Khobie Hilditch and baby Anna a new sister for Cooper Rutherford.
Congratulations OC for winning first place in the “Very Short Film Festival” a Priority School Program (PSP) initiative with seven schools from the Hunter Central Coast participating. Well done, additionally placed in fourth, fifth and sixth. Oscars (of the gold statue kind) all around!!!
Congratulations to Dayna and Sahra Garside who on Saturday competed at the Lake Macquarie Games for Trampolining. Dayna won two silver medals and one gold medal, while Sahra was the youngest competitor in the competition. Great work girls!!
The next few weeks leading up to the end of Term 4, promises to be extremely busy so it is important to keep an eye on the up-coming events and activities as most children will be involved. Thank you for your patience during these final weeks, apart from the huge demands of the day to day organisation of the different learning activities within the school, all staff are also involved in finalising assessments and reports, strategic and annual planning, the Annual School Report, financial roll-over and the added on department and regional training sessions that are difficult to pre-plan.
Congratulations to both the girls and boys Milo Cup teams they had a great day with the boys winning some of their matches. Thank you to Mr Gillett for organising the teams and supervision on the day. Thank you to the many parents who assisted with transport and provided the cheering squad.
Our Captain 2013 nominees made their campaign speeches in front of parents, staff and school peers Thursday last week. They were outstanding; any one of these 6 children would make a great school Captain. I’m sure that all the children would have had difficulty in choosing who to vote for. Well done Heather Wasson and Mitchell Hunt our School Captains for 2013 and Jorji Wilkie, Amber Michie, Allan Parmenter and Christopher Falley our Vice Captains. The new Captains and Vice-Captains will be invested at the Presentation Assembly on Tuesday the 11th December.

Carols Night
YWCA Vacation Care Flyer
Presentation Assembly: This special assembly will be held on Tuesday the 11th December at the Grainery in George Street. All children will walk to the venue from school (notes will be sent home next week) with their teachers and SLSOs. The assembly will commence at 12.00pm and conclude by 2.00pm. Parents who wish to take their children home from the Grainery must indicate on the permission note. We are all looking forward to sharing the children’s achievements with you.
Carols: Thank you to Miss Beker, Mr Britt and Mr Dewson and all our staff for organising this annual event scheduled for tomorrow evening (Thursday). Our Carols Night is a great way to welcome the Christmas season. The evening is set to begin at 5.00pm with a sausage sizzle. Please bring your blankets and pillows to sit on so you can listen to the children perform. Unfortunately we are growing too big to continue to use the lovely entry near the silver seats. A Special CD of the children singing will be on sale for $5, orders will be taken if we sell out!
Parent Helpers Morning Tea: All parents and community members, who have assisted in ANY way, are invited to attend a special Parent Helpers Morning Tea that will begin following the Scripture Assembly on Monday 3rd December. Invitations were sent out last week BUT if you did not receive yours please let us know as notes DO get misplaced on the way home and we would hate for you to think that you have been overlooked. P&C: The final P&C meeting will be held on Monday the 10th of December at 6.00pm. Come along and help celebrate 2012 achievements and plan for 2013.
Year 6 Farewell: Again this evening will be held at Islington Baptist church hall on Thursday the 13th of December, all Year 5 and 6 children are attending. Mr Horadam and Mr McTaggart are working hard preparing for this very special night for Year 6. All the children are asked to wear smart casual and appropriate clothes; the boys need to wear a collared shirt with no inappropriate logos. Girls need to be appropriately dressed with sensible shoes as dancing can cause twisted ankles.
Further time and organisation information will be sent home. Any Year 5 and 6 parents who wish to assist with food preparation and serving can contact me at school.
Year 6 Uniforms / Mufti: Year 6 children will be able to wear mufti for the remainder of the year WHEN they donate their uniform to the clothing pool after Wednesday 12th of December. All uniforms can be handed in at the office. Autographs – I am more than happy for all Year 6 children to collect their friends’ autographs before the end of the year, the only proviso, autographs cannot be collected on any uniform that is being currently worn. Autograph bears, books and uniforms brought to school in a plastic bag are all better options.
Reports: Our yearly reports will be handed out on Monday the 17th of December. All teachers have worked extremely hard to ensure that all data entered is a true representation of your child’s learning growth. I am sure that you will be very pleased with the comprehensive assessment information and the clear picture of your child’s progress and achievements that these reports contain. Please let us know if multiple copies need to be sent home and we would appreciate feedback on their effectiveness. Don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you need any point clarified.
Library Champion: Help our school win hundreds of books in the Scholastic Literacy Champion competition by recognising our wonderful teacher librarian Meg Beker. All you need to do is send an email to [email protected] and tell them you would like to nominate Meg Beker from Tighes Hill Public School as a literacy champion and why. The competition closes at the end of this term. Thank you in advance for your support of this wonderful competition.
Work Health and Safety: The new Work Health and Safety laws which came into place at the beginning of 2012 for full implementation in 2013 direct all volunteers, visitors and trades personnel to come to the front office and sign in and then sign out when leaving. All parents who are in our school for longer than 20 minutes are requested to register at the front office by signing in and out. (This includes Canteen volunteers, classroom helpers, scripture teachers, etc) Please assist us with this directive and help us keep our workplace safe!
K-2 Assembly: Today was the last Kindergarten – Year 2 assembly for the year. Next week K- 2 will attend the whole school assembly on Monday 3rd December. Star Card Reward Day: All our 80% Star Card achievers will have a wonderful opportunity to participate in a water fun day on Monday the 17th of December. Invitations will be sent home during Week 10. Principals Personal Best Assembly: Our final assembly for 2012 will be held on Monday 3rd of December at 2.15 pm and will be a K-6 assembly all parents are welcome to attend.
