Match Reports Round 7

8 Brown vs Baulkham Hills

This week was a different story completely as we

were a bundle of energy right from the get go. The

opposition team (Baulkham Hills) was a very good

defensive and offensive team and while Dylan scored

the sole and winning goal of the game, it has to be

said that it was a magnificent effort across the entire

team.

The team is really beginning to work hard for each

other and learning to hold their positions. Dylan is our

gun weapon up front and has been nicknamed striker

as he has the right touch in finding the back of the

net, but has to be said that the whole team is working

and playing very well together.

Jet made some crucial saves for us at Goalkeeper

which was supported by a great defensive back line of

Daniel, Lucas and Jacob. Tom, Harry and Antonio in

the midfield and Tom and Dylan were pushing up

front.

Overall, it was our best game for a few weeks so

hopefully onwards and upwards.

Go Pendo U8’s!

U11/2 vs Castle Hill

The game was off to a quick start this week and

within 5 minutes our team had two attempts at the

goals. Our team was energized and looking good on

the field. Cooper and Jarrod took the ball up the field

again and another shot at goal. So far the team was

unlucky by not scoring, but they continued to domi-

nate on the field. After several more attempts at

goals by Tristan, the score was 1-0 to Castle Hill. Will

was tenacious with his defense and Rohit was a force

to be reckoned with. It was now half time and one

injury.

In the second half, Lily was applying pressure to the

opposition and forcing them to make errors. Some

huge kicks from Josh, fast moves by Dominic and

strong play from Georgia. Ben played hard, Luke was

racing in with great ball control and many more at-

tempts to shoot for a goal. Matty was consistent in

his great goal keeping.

Our team had lots of heading, strong kicks and plenty

of energy on the field. Although our team dominated

in this game, we just couldn’t get a goal. It was a

great game for the spectators and plenty of clapping

on the sideline.

Happy Birthday to Tom and we look forward to

watching another great game this week.

Match Reports Round 7

11/5 vs Baulkham Hills

Unusually we started the game being the team domi-

nating the early attack, this despite our usual for-

wards starting on the bench! It wasn't long however

before our defences were tested, with Drashy coming

up with two early defensive tackles.

Baulkham Hills won a corner and took a great kick,

but Tanya wasn't fazed, she stood her ground and

blocked it then chased it hard to win the ball for us. It

lead to an attacking burst by Tarun running hard and

linking up with Cam who showed great support.

As we continued the attack, the ball just went out

before Jerald received the pass, the ref called it out

but he didn't hear and proceeded to run forward,

dragging their defences with him as they weren't tak-

ing any chances, and have a shot which just missed -

great to get those misses out of the way! He backed it

up a minute later, this time without the whistle stop-

ping play, with a run up the right side brought traffic.

Michael then saved us, coming in hard to tackle their

striker with great timing, but they attacked again with

their shot saved by Shaunak expertly! He launched a

strike, throwing the ball to Faraz who drew their play-

ers before passing to Lachlan. He had a short run he

passed back to Faraz in a great move that showed

passing and support is the best way through them!

We attacked again but they held us out, as we then

did to them with Thomas getting the ball clear after

the opposition's corner saving a certain goal.

Shaunak found himself facing an attack with no de-

fenders to help so he charged out at them and de-

flected their shot wide. Thomas was on an adrenaline

high as he continued charging at them in defence,

stopping them from having a shot so many times!

They were frustrated, more so when Athavan made a

break and took a shot that was just saved. Faraz

joined in again, linking with Mahak for another shot

that was just saved - with the opposition having two

defenders permanently standing in goal keeping it

was hard to find he back of the net! But Tarun tried

again, charging on a loose ball to shoot but it was de-

flected.

They made a quick play passing through our defend-

ers and having just to get past our keeper which hey

did - if only the off-side rule was in play!

The second half started with Jerald making an early

save as keeper, before Dylan showed good position-

ing to intercept their ball and pass forward.

Lachlan needed to run hard in cover defence showing

super fast speed to stop them again. We then contin-

ued to try to get a goal, with Mahak and Cam making

a great move with Cam shooting but it was saved be-

fore they tried again but didn't get a clear shot. Dylan

made a cool move from a high ball, rolling it across

the back if his shoulders shielding it from his oppo-

nent before we launched a final attack with Jerald

throwing the ball back in to Tanya, who passed to

Dylan, then got it to Mahak who was approaching

their goal as the whistle went!

Player of the week went to Thomas who showed

great determination actively seeking the ball in de-

fence and he saved us quite a few times.

Match Reports Round 7

13/1 vs Auburn 0-2 Loss

Our under 13/1 lost 2 – 0 against Auburn on Saturday. Although a disappointing result the boys will take plenty of encouragement out of the second half. Our boys were not committed enough to the ball in the first half and this allowed Auburn to control the play with both goals coming before halftime. Following the break our boys challenged for the ball on every play and this showed them how they need to play against Auburn next time even though Auburn haven’t lost a game all year. We had the better of the chances in the second half and could easily have pulled a goal back with a bit more luck going our way. Points today were 3 points to Cory, 2 points to Harry

and 1 point to Matt Horan.

13/4 vs Newington 1-4 Loss

This game would have to register as one of our most

dominant performances to not go on and win the

game.

We only had 11 available for the game and started

well with a continuation of our good ball movement

and passing. The game plan became fairly apparent

when at the first turnover Newington sent the ball

down field for their one player who was a head taller

than any of the players to run onto and score.

This resulted in 3 of their 4 first half goals and an-

other of their players got the other. But as I said from

the sideline we looked the dominant side if you did

not know the score. Late in the first half Matty

needed to be substituted out of goal after a boot to

the hand and bravely played on in defence with a

swollen hand, Ryan finished the game in goals with a

good performance.

Whilst it would have been good to go into half time

with a goal or two, despite numerous opportunities

including a few off the post and shots wide of an

open goal we went in at 4 – 0 down.

After halftime it was all about going on with the way

we were despite the score, Aiden switched to man on

man defence on their main player and did a great job

with him being hardly a threat in the second half.

Try as we could in the second half we were dominant

again without prevailing, the positives out of the sec-

ond half were that we had kept them goal less, John

pegged back a goal for us and we had more opportu-

nities including more off the woodwork again. The

attitude the boys displayed despite the heat, no re-

serves and the scoreline was fantastic as well with

constant encouragement and talk to the end.

Defiantly one that got away, we will be better pre-

pared for Newington next time we meet.

14/1 vs Auburn 0-2 Loss

First half was probably one of our worst of the season

and how we came out of it only 0-1 down was noth-

ing short of a miracle. We didn't hold possession, and

every time we got the ball we gave it straight back to

Auburn which was disappointing. We didn't want to

challenge and looked scared.

Second half we decided to go in a bit harder and we

won a bit of ball and created some chances and we

actually looked like we could get out of it but a late

second goal when we went looking for an equaliser

shut us out.

Much better second half but we need to improve if

we wish to challenge for honours this season.

Match Reports Round 7

Rnd 2 Catch Up

13/4 vs Winston Hills 0-2 Loss

Our round 2 washout game against Winston Hills was

again played with only 11 players and it would seem

the boys were a bit flat after the previous days effort.

Our normally simple game plan of playing wide in our

half and clearing the ball down field never seemed to

get off the ground, Winston Hills dominated for most

of the game being camped in our half for most of the

game.

Though we never seemed to get into the game, we

never stopped trying and did create some opportuni-

ties including another off the cross bar, the weight of

possession with Winston Hills always meant that

goals were going to be conceded.

Special mention for the game should go to Josh R &

Anish who had their first ever half games in goal, An-

ish in particular copping a ball in his face in the first

half but saw out the game and looked very confident

in goals.

All up the attitude for both days with only 11 players each day was great and lets hope the bounce of the ball goes our way in the ext couple of weeks.

U16/1 vs Auburn 5-0 Win

Once again the Boys got off to a slow start playing the

oppositions kick and chase game, however after

about ten minutes they decided to start playing there

style of soccer and soon after took the lead through

some great work between James hitting a free kick to

the near post to Joel for a neat placement into the

corner of the net. After the initial goal the boys

started to play a lot better brand of soccer scoring

two further goals before half time, a great corner

from Jared to an unmarked Tim on the back post for

him to finish with quality followed up by a classy fin-

ish by Alex running onto a lovely through ball giving

Pendo a 3-0 lead at half time.

The second half started off similar to the first with a

bit of kicking and chasing but once again the boys

settled in to a more attractive style of soccer and

never really looked like conceding. Arbin scored a

great determined goal chasing through on a Jake drop

kick putting a nice header away after beating two de-

fenders to the ball. The last goal was from another of

Jareds’ long range free kicks to Glenn who finished it

with a volley over the keepers head.

The boys are playing some great soccer in patches

and the points went to Daniel – 3 points after a very

busy and constructive game – James got 2 points with

a normal solid performance being everywhere and

Tim got the 1 point.

Match Reports Round 7

16/2 vs Regents Park 0-2 Loss

We welcomed Connor to the team today for his first

game, whilst at the same time Tim starts his six weeks

absence with a broken wrist from last week's game.

First game in a double header weekend and a tough

one to start. This was another game against a top two

side we knew would be difficult. We started the game

a bit slowly with some loose marking seeing Regents

Park through on goal to take an early lead and it

stayed 1-0 until half time.

The second half was more competitive but a well

taken strike from the 18 yard box went of Pat's fin-

gers onto the post and then across the line for Re-

gents Park second. We hung on and started to create

a number of chances late in the half with no success.

We need to take our training ground skills into match

day. At training we see many strong challenges on

our team mates and some good passing, interplay

and movement, but at the game we are more inclined

to kick/chase. When we do string the passes together

we look good and we are creating chances. This is the

smart football we know we can play - we just need to

do it for the whole game.

Patrick again pulled out a number of strong saves to-

day. Nick and Josh were chasing a couple of quicks

down each of the wings and held their own under

pressure. Aidan tried to lift the boys from the back,

including a great move late in the game through the

middle of the field to create a chance.

Mohey and Kartik worked very hard to contain the

opposition attackers. Brad continues to impress with

his stamina and commitment at the ball around the

field. Suren and Sahil were both suffering from mid-

week illnesses but kept finding space wide to create

counter attack opportunities. Cory made some strong

one on one opportunities but just needed a little

more support to convert these to goals. Connor and

Will also managed to create some late chances just

needing a little more finesse in the finishing.

Rnd 2 Catch Up Game

U16/2 vs Ermington 0-0 Draw

Good to see everyone backing up ready to run around

again after a tough game on Saturday. We set up a

little differently today with a number of players in

new and unfamiliar positions. However, all the play-

ers understood their roles and grew into the new po-

sitions very quickly.

This was a very even game throughout. Real chances

were few and far between for both sides despite the

end to end nature of the contest. Once again the

chances that we made were the result of some good

interplay through passing and movement off the ball.

The first half we still tried to push a few too many

long balls through for the strikers and wide players to

chase but we interspersed these we some clever

shorter passing through the midfield and to the for-

wards. The second half we were more committed to

our passing game.

(U16/2 cont)

Patrick had a quieter game in goals today but made a

couple of timely saves and challenges to keep the

clean sheet. Nick partnered Mohey in the centre of

defence to create effect, time and again shutting

down the opposition attacks before they got too

close to our goal.

Josh and Brad were again confronted with a couple of

quick wide players but managed to snuff out any dan-

ger before it became too threatening. Aidan's move

to centre midfield with Suren worked very well as

they had some good interchanges giving us a much

stronger presence through the middle. Kartik showed

some good touch and made some great intercep-

tions. Sahil attacked wide to good effect creating a

number of opportunities with his crosses. Will put in

a much more committed performance today chasing

both in attack and defence, creating space and

chances. Connor and Cory both had a couple of

chances that went just high or wide, centimetres only

between them and a couple of goals each.

We finished the game with a number of injuries. Cory,

Josh and Nick all battled on bravely so we could keep

11 on the park and the team hung in there for the

draw.

A much better

team effort today.

U16/3 vs Lidcombe 2-3 Loss

We started the game on fire. Ryan had a quality shot

on goal in the first minute. We had them rattled and

it was good to get an early goal – Sam took a free kick

near the sideline at half way, one bounce later Parth

knocked home the header. But slowly our intensity

dropped off and Lidcombe piled on the pressure.

They set up a couple of runaway 1 on 1 contests with

our keeper, and both times Lavan somehow pulled a

rabbit out of the hat with brilliant saves. But before

half-time they stung us with 2 quick goals. One from

a speedy attack and one from a header when we let

the ball bounce inside our penalty box.

Josh Ak was having the game of his life in the mid–

field, controlling the ball and combining with the for-

wards to set up genuine opportunities. Cameron Ak

has good vision for the game and was laying off some

nice passes to team mates in space. Josh Ab and

Steve were troubling their backs with some incisive

runs. Parth looked the most dangerous and his weav-

ing run down the right wing saw him cut back inside

and then had us gasping with a left foot strike that

threaded the needle between the keeper and near

post. 2-2 and 20 minutes to play. At the other end

Colin mustered all his height to tip a threatening Lid-

combe strike over the crossbar. But their next long

range attempt just looped over his head for the deci-

sive goal. In the final minutes Chris & Sam pushed

themselves forward to find the elusive equaliser but

to no avail.

Overall it was a good game played in a good spirit and

a great game to watch. Keep working hard boys, talk-

ing on the field, getting those passing combinations

happening, and the results will come.

Match Reports Round 7

45/1 vs Greystanes 1-0 Win

Upon arrival at Daniel Street Greystanes the Marquee was met by one of the worst football fields he had seen in a long while; it resembled a cow paddock and a very bad one at that. The bottom field had been prepared for the occasion so I don’t know why Grey-stanes used the bad top field in preference? We again had several players missing in action through injury, coaching, overseas trips, or work commit-ments. The good news was that a slightly heavier Perry had return from his trip to the USA. The Marquee was pleased to see that an old State League refereeing colleague was going to referee our game; he was called in by Greystanes to do the 1.00 pm and 3.00 pm games as no official GDFRA referees had been appointed. In fact only the Castle Hill United game was covered officially in all the 45’s games both 1st and 2nd divisions? We started with just the Marquee and Turn on the bench – the two senior statesmen of the team with a combined age of nearly 130 years between them. With Toey and Carbon away we again rearranged our starting line-up. The Governor at Sweeper, Perry right full back, Molly left full back and the Spiderman at stopper. The Maestro and Taxi were centre mid-fielders with the Sparkles left mid-fielder and the Hobo right mid-fielder. With Empty and the King up front we were ready for the upcoming battle on the dust bowl at Daniel Street. The Governor won the toss of the coin and the Greystanes kicked off to the loud blast of the referee’s whistle. We played well in patches and were on top to start with however, we often took them too easy and played at their level. We need to play at the level we do against Castle Hill in every game and if we did we would beat the majority of teams in our competition. Alas that wasn’t to be the case on a ground that was-n’t conducive to good play.

Far too many balls were a kick and hope meaning many balls went straight to the opposition. Empty had a good run but was brought down unfairly. Taxi went on a run which ended in a great shot which unfortunately went just wide of the target. Our shape was a little out and poor noble Sparkles was struggling with what turned out to be a very strained Achilles tendon which will put him out for 3 to 4 weeks. He did his best but needed the ball at his feet. We needed to lift and not play to their level. The Maestro had a shot which went straight to their keeper who drops the ball. Unfortunately nobody was following up. The Hobo and the Maestro have a nice one two interchange of passes ending with the Maestro having a great shot which their keeper fum-bles and saves. Molly passes to the opposition and gets a gob full from the Governor; a little unfair as the Governor had previously given the opposition the ball on several occasions. Taxi has a wonderful shot on target that stings the keeper’s hands but he regathers (again we needed someone following up). The King gives a perfect ball to Taxi who hits it well but again straight at their keeper who saves with his feet. We are having little luck but our football is be-coming better. The injured Sparkles turns and shoots but again their keeper saves. Half time comes and time for a team talk. What is lacking is more commu-nication on the field. The second half starts with our kick off and we are more structured. A great cross comes over from Taxi to Empty who gives a great ball to Turn who spoons it over the bar. Much better football guys until the Governor again gives the ball away cheaply to the opposition. Perry has a slight twinge in his leg and comes off for an ice pack. The King goes back on with the Marquee in reserve on the bench. Some good lead up work from the back and Taxi gath-ers the ball and goes on a run he lines it up with his right foot and it goes in hard and low. 1-0 to the Mighty 45’s.

(45/1 Cont)

Smiles turned to worry as our vision player had pulled up injured. He had to go off and would take no fur-ther part in the game or tomorrow’s catch up game either for that matter. Unfortunately Taxi will be out for a few weeks with an injured right leg. We need to re-organise and although the Marquee is ready and willing to come on discretion is the better part of valour. Perry swaps with the Mullet and takes over the keeping role. With the Mullet at right full back we continue on. The field of play has walking wounded and it doesn’t look good for tomorrow’s Round 2 catch up at Binalong Oval. The game is becoming very scrappy and not pretty to watch. Many passes are going astray mainly due to the poor field but also to just poor distribution from the back. The Mullet has left the right back position and has wandered over to the left leaving a weaken right side in defence. Shouts of get back in position soon rectify the situation. Turn wins the ball and unfortunately falls over and it goes straight back to them. Sparkles goes on a good hobbling run and we get a well-deserved corner. The Governor has gone up and has a well-directed header on target but it somehow spins towards their keeper. It deserved to be a goal but perhaps a blessing in dis-guise as we would have had to listen to the story of the Governor’s goal for weeks to come. The pin ball approach of the game isn’t helping and finally a good ball goes to Empty who finds the King and the keeper again is lucky to get a foot to his shot. Unfortunately, we have had no luck today. Several more balls (Empty, the Mullet twice, the Spiderman, the Hobo, the King and Molly) to the opposition and the story of our day continues. Sparkles picks out the King with a precision long ball but unfortunately it is too good as the King can’t quite get there before it goes out over the touchline.

Too many long range shots on the day but we hold on for the 1-0 win. The walking wounded hobble back to the esky glad that the day’s work is over. Man of the match was the Governor who defended well and marshalled the back line to lift when re-quired. In second place was the Spiderman who, as always, never gave up or stopped all day. It was diffi-cult to split the mid-field generals today so both the Maestro and Taxi are equal third. The “Stuff-Up Shirt” was given to the Governor for a record number of passes to the opposition although he protested that they were clearances. It is not usual for the man of the match to also win the “Stuff-Up Shirt” how-ever; in this case, it is well deserved on both counts. It takes a special breed of player who can do both in one game. Many thanks to our special supporters who attended today, it was very much appreciated. The Marquee didn’t make the park today but will be needed tomor-row as we will have a bare 11 at best. Hopefully he can do his job and make a nuisance of himself up front drawing defends away from our play makers and his strike partner. Once again we need to con-centrate for the full 80 minutes and not make as many silly mistakes as we do. Next weekend we have a home game against Kelly-ville White in Round 8. With the kick off at 3.00 pm on the Theatre of Dreams (Field 3) we hope to see you there to support the club’s most senior team.

Rnd 2 Catch Up Game

O45/1 vs Greystanes 0-0 Draw

The next part of our double header weekend was soon to come to pass. Firstly the Marquee arrived to find out that we were unable to play on the “Theatre of Dreams” (Field 3) as a sprinkler pipe had burst and flooded the field. We had to play instead on the “Field of Hope” (Field 4). The walking wounded be-gan to turn up in dribs and dabs at Binalong on a lovely Sunday afternoon. We had a bare 10 players backing up from yesterday’s Round 7 game. Fortu-nately Toey was able to get off work early and turn up much to everyone relief. So then we were then 11 mighty warriors ready for action. We were missing Sparkles and Taxi injured in yester-day’s game and likely to be off for a few weeks, Car-bon on coaching duties, the Doc missing in action and Empty on a plane going to Vietnam. It was good to see Taxi turn up to support the team.

The Marquee was pleased that we actually had a referee and two AR’s covering the game. We started with a bare 11. The Governor at his usual Sweeper role, Perry right full back, Molly left full back and the Spiderman at stopper. The Maestro and Toey (replacing Taxi) were centre mid-fielders with the Marquee left mid-fielder and the Hobo right mid-fielder. With Turn and the King up front we were ready for round 2 against Greystanes. The Governor won the toss of the coin and Greystanes kicked off to cheers from their supporters. As the Marquee is playing this report will be very short – good I hear many saying. They seemed to start better than us and had several corners which we had to defend early in the game. The Marquee pulled a muscle in the back of his leg (probably a caulked thigh) after ten minutes and played on through the pain barrier for the rest of the game. Several others of the team had sore muscles and needed some ice at the end of the game. Perry gives away a penalty which was a little soft on the referee’s part. Luck was with us as their penalty taker blasted it high over the bar. As the Marquee was injured and not moving too well he was moved up front with the King and Turn dropping to his left mid-field position. The Marquee was told to make a nuisance of himself up front which he duly did for the rest of the game with often two opposition players marking him which allowed us some extra space. Un-fortunately the Marquee made one blemish when the King put over a great far post ball for him to head. His mind knew exactly what to do; the problem was he couldn’t jump higher enough to reach it and head it into the back of the net. It sailed over and past the Greystanes defender for a throw in. Turn has a one on one with their keeper in the first half and tries to go around him only to see the keeper stretch out and gather the ball off his feet. We played well at times and defend for several periods during the game.

Match Reports Round 7

(cont 45/1)

A solid performance from the defence even though we had some strange decisions go against us; we had a couple of offsides given which were clearly onside but we accepted them and got on with it. Not long after the second half started they put over a great cross which hit the far post and ricocheted across the goal over the line for a top goal. One nil down and it all to do. We pressed hard and run our legs off; with some pre-cision passing the ball came over from the Maestro and Toey rose to head it home at the far post with the keeper having no chance. 1-1 and a deserved equaliser. Both teams tried for a winner but of the day a draw was the fair result. The Mighty 45’s hobbled off to the esky for some medicinal fluids and ice packs to the cheers of their faithful dedicated band of support-ers. The man of the match was a very easy decision today – Toey was a clear winner not only for his equalising goal but his general around play and never give up attitude. In second place was the King and Turn brought up third place. The “Stuff-Up Shirt” was not awarded as everyone played their part in today’s game and tried their upmost best. The Marquee apologises for his poor play at times but he did make a nuisance of himself up front where he got studded twice on his right ankle and corked his thigh on the day. His drawing of two players to mark him worked well most of the game. The Spiderman and Molly also went off with injured legs from a hard two days of football.

A few more loyal groupies came to support us today and this is much appreciated. Next weekend we have a home game against Kelly-ville White in Round 8. With the kick off at 3.00 pm on the Theatre of Dreams (Field 3) we hope to see you there to support the club’s most senior team.

Ladies Premier League

Pendle Hill vs Castle Hill RSL 8-0 Win

Another game and a real surprise to find that before

kick off we actually had 11 players and a few reserves

as well for a change.

Playing the weaker of the two Castle Hill RSL sides we

always knew that if we played decent football we

should be able to get the result and it pretty much

panned out that way. After a slow start with some

great defence from a stubborn CHRSL team we took a

while to find the back of the net but once we got the

first the floodgates opened.

We scored mainly individual goals which was a little

disappointing as we need to start slowing the game

down, keeping possession and finding feet if we want

to match the better teams in this competition.

All in all though it was a good result on a pretty warm

day that saw us cop a couple of injuries and its nice to

know that we are now leading the competition even

though CHU has a game in hand they should win. It

should give you girls the confidence to know that we

can compete and we only need to fix up a few little

things to give this competition a real shake.

O35/1L vs Toongabbie 0-9 Loss

Joey has no recollection of anything that happened in this game, and even if he did he would like to wipe it from his memory as soon as possible.

Are Bus slogans called Bogans for short……

One of the more interesting aspects of the World Cup in Brazil so far is each competing

country has been given a slogan that will be boldly emblazoned on their TEAM BUS, well

today I look at the slogans and offer comments and alternative as some of them really suck.

Starting with the Socceroos (which is a cringe name to start with) but the slogan “Hopping

our way into History” is cringe personified, maybe with Chile, Spain and Netherlands being

in our group a more appropriate slogan for our bus would be “We are going to park this”.

Here are the others;
