FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

There was a skim of ice on my ponds last night. The chickens in their pen have grown their feathers back and look sleek and full again. My neighbor’s are full of talk of deer-how big, how many points, where they are bedding down this year. The annual exuberance of fall colors has settled down to the elegance of the black and white, brown and gray winter colors. Church is buzzing with people and the excitement of the season. Christmas is coming! And there is so much Christmas goings on at Emory that we had to put it on a separate page! It is on my heart to say a few words of thanks today, as Thanksgiving is approaching. Our Wednesdays are Wonderful meals are always a good time: good friends, good food, and good fellowship. Thank you ladies (and gentlemen) of Emory, for making those nights so successful. Speaking of success, Homecoming Sunday we had a full house. A special thanks to Sherry Wineke for all her work on that. And Randy Wineke, for the bonfire and Summer Services that are such a joy to so many. Emory music is always excellent. Thank you, Bonnie Johnson, for filling in from time to time. Love our Emory choir-thank you Bev Gandolfo for all your work with Emory folk there! I am so looking forward to our Christmas Cantata on December 18th. Special thanks also to go to Dianne Baughan for the abundance of Thanksgiving as pictured in the altar decorations. This to me always exemplifies perfectly the exuberant abundance of our God! Actually, Diane takes care of our sanctuary all year long, and she and Maxie provide our communion bread and grape juice, too. Thank you! Now, the only problem with starting down this path of thanking Emory folk for all their work at our church is that I cannot possibly name all of you. So let me just say thank you to all the Emory leaders of the committees that do so much behind the scenes to keep the wheels of Emory turning smoothly. And thank you to all of those who

are not on committees or leading committees but who do so much so often for Emory-all those who are so dedicated to Emory and sacrificed so much of your time and just work so hard for Emory. Thank you, too, all our ‘circle friends.’ Who are still so much a part of Emory even though you cannot any longer attend on a regular basis; we appreciate you very much. A very special thank you to all of you who pray for Emory (and me!) on a regular basis. Thanks also to all those-members and all friends of Emory-who just want to be in the Emory sanctuary of a Sunday to worship God and to fellowship with the people of God. What a joy Emory is to me! Merry Christmas one and all! May Our Beautiful God in Heaven bless each and every one of you!

The Bible Study for the month of December is all about Angels-angel sightings, past and present, human and divine. Scripture readings of angels, perhaps some secular readings also. Bring in your own angel stories to share. Let’s talk! LOOKING AHEAD: Please see our list of holiday happenings further in the newsletter.

We are thinking about Christmas. You can start to bring to church non-perishable food goods for us to give to our adopted families. You can also give monetary donations. Please pick an ornament off of our board in the sanctuary & buy the gift listed. When you purchase and wrap the gift bring it to church & put the ornament that you picked on the

outside of the present. Gifts need to be given to Nancy by Dec. 14th. For more information, contact Nancy Chilcoat.

FROM THE UMW The nuts and candy have arrived, please see Donna if you want to purchase some. There is an ordering form at the end of the newsletter.

The Emory Women’s Christmas Party will be held on Dec. 5th at 6:00pm at Dee’s home. Maxie’s Taxi service will be available. Please remember to bring a $15 gift for our gift exchange.

Please continue to buy school supplies for NESAP all year long.
