Preface

tibbr® is the first workplace communication tool with which you can follow subjects that relate to your work and interests besides following people as you do in typical social networking applications. That way, you have much more flexibility in obtaining the right information at the right time in the right context. In fact, the information will find you.

Typographical Conventions

The following typographical conventions are used in this document.

Table 1 General Typographical Conventions

Convention Use

ENV_NAME

TIBCO_HOME

ProductAcronym_HOME

TIBCO products are installed into an installation environment. A product installed into an installation environment does not access components in other installation environments. Incompatible products and multiple instances of the same product must be installed into different installation environments.

An installation environment consists of the following properties:

• Name Identifies the installation environment. This name is referenced in documentation as ENV_NAME. On Microsoft Windows, the name is appended to the name of Windows services created by the installer and is a component of the path to the product shortcut in the Windows Start > All Programs menu.

• Path The folder into which the product is installed. This folder is referenced in documentation as TIBCO_HOME.

TIBCO ProductName installs into a directory within TIBCO_HOME. This directory is referenced in documentation as ProductAcronym_HOME. The default value of ProductAcronym_HOME depends on the operating system. For example, on Windows systems, the default value is C:\tibco\ProductAcronym\ReleaseNumber.

code font Code font identifies commands, code examples, file names, path names, and output displayed in a command window. For example:

Use MyCommand to start the foo process.

bold code font Bold code font is used in the following ways:

• In procedures, to indicate what a user types. For example: Type admin.

• In large code samples, to indicate the parts of the sample that are of particular interest.

• In command syntax, to indicate the default parameter for a command. For example, if no parameter is specified, MyCommand is enabled: MyCommand [enable | disable]

tibbr, tibbr Service, tibbr Community, and tibbr Community Service Release Notes

Page 7: tibbr and tibbr Service Release Notes - TIBCO Product Documentation

Preface | vii

italic font Italic font is used in the following ways:

• To indicate a document title. For example: See TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks Concepts.

• To introduce new terms For example: A portal page may contain several portlets. Portlets are mini-applications that run in a portal.

• To indicate a variable in a command or code syntax that you must replace. For example: MyCommand PathName

Key combinations Key name separated by a plus sign indicate keys pressed simultaneously. For example: Ctrl+C.

Key names separated by a comma and space indicate keys pressed one after the other. For example: Esc, Ctrl+Q.

The note icon indicates information that is of special interest or importance, for example, an additional action required only in certain circumstances.

The tip icon indicates an idea that could be useful, for example, a way to apply the information provided in the current section to achieve a specific result.

The warning icon indicates the potential for a damaging situation, for example, data loss or corruption if certain steps are taken or not taken.

Table 1 General Typographical Conventions (Cont’d)

Convention Use

Table 2 Syntax Typographical Conventions

Convention Use

[ ] An optional item in a command or code syntax.

For example:

MyCommand [optional_parameter] required_parameter

| A logical OR that separates multiple items of which only one may be chosen.

For example, you can select only one of the following parameters:

MyCommand para1 | param2 | param3

tibbr, tibbr Service, tibbr Community, and tibbr Community Service Release Notes

Page 8: tibbr and tibbr Service Release Notes - TIBCO Product Documentation

viii | Typographical Conventions

{ } A logical group of items in a command. Other syntax notations may appear within each logical group.

For example, the following command requires two parameters, which can be either the pair param1 and param2, or the pair param3 and param4.

MyCommand {param1 param2} | {param3 param4}

In the next example, the command requires two parameters. The first parameter can be either param1 or param2 and the second can be either param3 or param4:

MyCommand {param1 | param2} {param3 | param4}

In the next example, the command can accept either two or three parameters. The first parameter must be param1. You can optionally include param2 as the second parameter. And the last parameter is either param3 or param4.

MyCommand param1 [param2] {param3 | param4}

New Features

This section describes the new features by release.

Release 4.1.0Release 4.1.0 contains the following new features:

• tibbr Files With tibbr Files, you can share files from external file-service providers (for example, SharePoint, Box, and Google Drive) along with your posts. Also, a file-oriented view is available, in which you can comment on; sort by title, source, or date; filter by source, name of sharer, or subject; upload, or download those files.

• tibbr Meetings You can set up and hold meetings through WebEx, Skype, or Google+ Hangout, either in advance or instantaneously.

• Popular conversations The tibbr home page now showcases in the right panel a section called Popular Conversations: the posts with the most replies or likes in the last 24 hours, updated every hour.

• Rich text editor tibbr now features a rich text editor for post content with support for boldfaced text and italics, bullet lists, and so forth.

• Replying to replies A new UI distinguishes responses to replies from those to initial posts.

• Sharing of posts You can now share a post on tibbr with your colleagues and potentially initiate a separate dialog on the subject of the post.

• UI enhancements The look and feel of the subject directories, people directories, and people groups have undergone a revamp for enhanced usability. For example, you can now crop your profile picture while uploading it.

• Performance enhancements We have optimized caching and database queries so that home-page rendering for tibbr is now faster.

• User status You can now specify on tibbr your availability status, for example, “I’m in a meeting.” That status is visible to anyone who mouses over your profile image.

• Choice of authentication type on login tibbr now offers users a new login page from which they can choose the authentication type: SAML server, database, or Active Directory.

• Customizable first-time login process Companies can now customize the registration process for new users by directing them to a site with tibbr-related

materials, such as tutorials and terms and conditions, before those users access tibbr for the first time.

• Inline videos With a few configurations, you can now embed in a tibbr post a video from a streaming site that supports Open Graph.

• Languages This release contains two additional translations: Dutch and Swedish. Altogether, besides English, tibbr now supports nine other languages: Chinese (Simplified), Dutch, French, French (Canada), German, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish.

Release 4.0.3Release 4.0.3 contains an enhancement for the App Framework: support for cross-posting resources.

Release 4.0.2Following are the new features in Release 4.0.2:

• Enhancements for App Framework We have enhanced the App Framework to enable social collaboration around external entities through a construct called resource. Examples of resources are an opportunity on Salesforce.com, an expense report in Oracle Expenses, a document in Google Drive, and a meeting in Webex.

You can perform the following tasks with resources:

— Follow resources.

— Receive posts that relate to a resource on the wall.

— Define email alerts that are posted to a resource.

— Search for posts on a resource.

• Addition of Subdomain Suffix and Base Host configuration parameters for multitenancy Two new parameters, Subdomain Suffix and Base Host, are now available under Multitenant for specifying the suffix of the URL for accessing the tenant and the host name of the base tenant, respectively.

The above two parameters were available in Release 4.0.0.

• New appendix on SAML Authentication for IWA Through AD FS We have added to the tibbr Installation and Configuration manual Appendix F, which describes how to set up Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) authentication through a SAML server, such as Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS).

Release 4.0.1Following are the new features in Release 4.0.1:

• Influence score The tibbr influence score (part of tibbr 4.0.0) measures how influential you are within a tibbr network. Behind the scenes is a proprietary algorithm that aggregates your contribution to the network and a subsequent calculation of the effect your actions have on conversations, subjects, and other users.

• New utility (import_old_notifications) This utility imports the notifications that were generated in an older version of tibbr after an upgrade to Release 4.0 or later.

Release 4.0.0Following are the new features in Release 4.0.0:

• tibbr apps Available now are two categories of apps:

— Company Apps — These are apps shipped with tibbr (such as Ideation), apps developed and registered by your organization, event streams, and apps that your administrator has imported into tibbr (such as Box).

— Marketplace Apps — These are apps that are developed by TIBCO or its application partners and that complement the capabilities of tibbr. Administrators can import these apps into the tibbr environment, subsequently displaying them under Company Apps.

• Insight (analytics) We have revamped the tibbr analytics and now offer many more facts and statistics on your organization’s activities on tibbr. You can view the data for the past seven days along with leaderboard statistics on users and posts.

New Features | 5

• Enhanced UI We have revamped the UI on the home page with numerous enhancements. For example:

— Tabs in left panel The capabilities previously available in the top navigation bar have been moved to the left panel.

— Filter Posts menu Your wall now features a Filter Posts drop-down menu with three items: My Wall, Events, and Polls.

— Posts with mentions of your name You can view all the posts that mention your name by clicking your name under Main Wall in the left panel of your home page.

— Customize Sidebar menu With this drop-down menu, you can hide or show the panes in the right panel of your home page.

— Actions menu on subject pages This menu enables you to perform various tasks on a subject page, such as managing followers and editing subjects.

— UI distinction of departed users tibbr now grays out the pictures of those users who have been deleted from the company directory, such as employees who have left.

• @ mentions of people and subjects While typing your post, prefixing a person’s or subject’s name with the symbol @ makes the name a link when the post is live.

• tibbr Connect and app framework for developers A new Web site, developers.tibbr.com, offers a wealth of resources to developers: tibbr Apps, tibbr Enterprise Social Graph, tibbr Connect, API Reference.

• Customization of personal profiles Besides editing the basic information in your profile, you can now customize the latter by specifying your language of choice, time zone, specialties, and other details. Additionally, you can highlight your projects, accomplishments, and such by attaching the relevant files, pointing to the relevant URLs, or both.

• Timeline view of subjects We have reorganized the subject pages, which now have a new section in the right panel that shows the number of posts now and in timeline fashion. Also displayed are clickable pictures of the new followers and the activities for the selected month.

• Support for multitenancy Administrators can now set up or edit multitenancy on tibbr, that is, a single tibbr deployment that runs on one or multiple servers and that serves multiple tenants.

• Ideation app The new Ideation app enables the creation, archiving, promotion, and administration of innovative ideas within your organization.

• Integration with Box tibbr is now integrated with the Box application, enabling you to share Box documents with other tibbr users and facilitating collaboration directly from tibbr.

Release 3.5.0Following are the new features in Release 3.5.0:

• tibbr Geo tibbr Geo converts physical places into data hubs that stream related location-specific data. With tibbr Geo, you can associate a geolocation with a subject or person and, consequently, tag important places and present relevant in-stream information to nearby tibbr users.

• Notifications Two notification icons with “badges” to the left of the Search field do the following:

— The icon on the right alerts you of noteworthy events, such as replies to your posts.

— The icon on the left alerts you that requests are pending your approval, that is, someone is asking to follow one or more subjects that you own.

• Calendar You can create calendar events in the form of posts to a list of invitees, who can then respond on tibbr and add the events to their iCal or Outlook calendar, as desired.

• Multiple attachments You can add multiple attachments to a post or reply.

• Multiple announcements Administrators or subject owners can mark multiple messages as announcements to be displayed at the top of the home page or subject page, as applicable.

• Single sign-on (SSO) Administrators can configure authentication through a Web server plug-in with third-party SSO software, such as apache_auth_tkt.

• People groups As a time saver when posting and inviting people to follow subjects, you can create a people group with the names of colleagues in your organization—similar to an email alias. Similarly, administrators can import groups from LDAP.

• Integration of external content into subject pages Subject owners can incorporate external Web pages into subject pages.

• Search within subjects You can search for posts within a subject on its page. Also available are advanced search options, which enable you to specify the message’s originator, the period in which the message was posted, and the message type.

• End date and time for polls While creating a poll, you can specify its end date and time, which you can change once the poll is in place.

• Hiding and unhiding of messages If a message and its replies, if any, are of no interest to you, you can hide them and prevent future replies from being displayed on your wall. You can redisplay the message and its related replies later, if desired.

• Mouse-over display of user information On mouse-over of a user’s picture on the wall, tibbr displays that person’s profile information in a panel.

• Collection of liked posts tibbr collects in a central place all the posts on which you have clicked Like: in the My Likes tab under My Profile.

• Post divider A divider in the form of a double line separates new posts from the old ones on your wall.

• Disablement of service-unavailable error message on tibbr startup Previously, in case of errors at startup, tibbr displayed a spurious error message: 503 Service unavailable error. A more informative message is now displayed.

— Displayed under Statistics Summary is a new section called Total Unique Users with three tabs: Two Months, Six Months, and One Year. Click the appropriate tab for a graphical display of the number of unique tibbr users within your organization in the past two months, six months, or the past year.

Changes in Functionality

This section describes the changes in tibbr’s capabilities by release.

Release 4.1.0Following are the functionality changes in Release 4.1.0:

• Followers and following Instead of displaying a count of your followers and the people you are following below your profile picture in the left panel, tibbr now displays that information when you mouse over your picture in the left panel.

• Deletion of subjects from posts You can now delete a subject from a post, assuming that you are the subject owner or you have message-management privilege. Previously, you could delete the post in question but can no longer do so.

• Notification enhancements The following enhancements are now available for notifications:

— For an @ mention of your name in a post, the message in the notification icon now reads, for example, “XYZ mentioned you in a post” instead of “XYZ sent you a private post.”

— In the message, tibbr displays the first part of the post in question.

• Search enhancement Search now works seamlessly for search keywords that are singular or plural nouns, also for verb variants, for example, listen and listening.

• Enhanced display of image carousel For multiple images attached to a post, forward and backward arrows are now available for scrolling through them.

• Enhancements under What’s Happening The following enhancements are now available for the What’s Happening panels:

Instead, type the appropriate values in the Twitter consumer key and Twitter consumer secret fields in the Twitter setup screen under Marketplace Apps and then click Update. See this screenshot for an example:

Note: While creating your app on dev.twitter.com, be sure to select the following options under Application Type:

• Read, Write and Access direct messages under Access

Release 3.0.1We have prioritized delayed job processes in Release 3.0.1. Here is a list of the processes that are run:

• Main Job Runner Runs the background jobs that are critical to tibbr’s operations, such as message dispatches and updates of search indexes.

• Supplemental Job Runner Runs the background jobs that dispatch notifications and other tasks.

In addition, you can set the number of workers that run for each of the processes by changing the value of the MAXWORKERS parameter in the related startup script. Increasing the number of workers enables the handling of more jobs in case of larger deployments.

Release 3.0.0Following are the changes in functionality in Release 3.0.0:

• The defaults for tibbr’s parameters all reside in a file called default_app_config.yml in the tibbr_home/tibbr-config directory. To manually edit parameters, first copy the appropriate section from the default section in the default_app_config.yml file to the production section in the app_config.yml file and then specify the settings. This change helps administrators copy the configurations from a previous version during an upgrade.
