The simple solution: ES-PowerWe can modernize virtually any escalator with perfectly fitting modules and components that are pre-assembled and brought to the location in small and handy packages. In other words, one of several adjacent escalators can be upgraded without affecting the others. In the final analysis, we can replace everything by keeping the original truss.

For third-party escalators smart solutions with pre-assembled modules that are virtually independent from the truss design are the first choice. For older ThyssenKrupp Elevator units with a known truss design components from the latest escalator series are adapted to the existing truss.

For old ThyssenKrupp products that are still in good shape, you can even decide just to partially upgrade and modernize specific areas of concern, such as safety, energy efficiency or other individual requirements.

If required, our ES-Power concept gives you various possibilities for remotely monitoring your escalator. This makes efficient escalator management possible since you are automatically kept up to date on the escalator’s condition and status.

If you want to preserve your valuable outer cladding, ES-Power is the right solution.

Depending on your individual load case and the need for environmental friendly operation, you can choose from a wide range of state-of-the-art energy-saving technologies, giving you the chance to achieve the highest possible ISO 25745 rating.

The safety levels demanded by your latest local code are more rigorous than ever. So our ES-Power concept ensures you get all the safety measures demanded by your local authorities – and if required, we can also offer additional safety features.

ES-Power modernization will make your customers feel comfortable again by improving the ride quality of your escalators. This is made possible by renewing and adjusting wear & tear parts, such as tracks for steps and handrails.

All visible components will be replaced by new ones, e.g. balustrade, skirt, steps, comb and floor plates. These components are available in aluminum or stainless steel. Additional options for decorative and traffic lights are also available.

Modernizing your escalator Nothing could be simpler

Our modernization process has been designed to make things as simple as possible for you – and minimize interference with your everyday operations. In general it is a four-stage process. If you want to upgrade a ThyssenKrupp escalator with specific packages for safety, energy efficiency or the like, the rebuilding process is even simpler and shorter.

Removal of old components and cleaning of truss, installation of a control cabinet and wiring to prepare the basis for the new escalator.

1 Rebuilding Step 1Disassembly

Installation and alignment of new upper and lower modules using lasers to ensure a perfect alignment within the escalator.

2 Rebuilding Step 2 Install modules

Installation of visible components such as balustrades, deckings, claddings and floor plates to make the escalator look like new.

4 Rebuilding Step 4 Aesthetic upgrade

Site acceptance test, certification, and commissioning of the new escalator.

5 Rebuilding Step 5 Test

Installation and laser alignment of central modules to ensure a perfect fit between all modules; installation and alignment of the track system and step band to ensure a smooth ride and low noise levels.

3 Rebuilding Step 3 Middle segment

1. ExaminationOur specialists examine the unit to be modernized, take measurements, and check its condition and accessibility.

2. ProposalWe develop a modernization proposal and a rebuilding project plan.

3. Project designThe individual project design is developed and the modules and components manufactured.

4. RebuildingRebuilding takes place in five steps, including a site acceptance test, certification, and commissioning of the modernized escalator.

Sky Harbor International Airport handles over 40 m passengers per year. The running costs for escalators were increasing but as an essential passenger infrastructure element, replacing them all in their entirety was not an option.

So ThyssenKrupp modernized one escalator at a time while keeping the rest in service for the passengers’ convenience. Installing lube-free chains eliminated the use of oil on the chain transmissions, and variable speed operation reduced the escalators’ overall power consumption.

Sky Harbor International Airport 2Phoenix, Arizona

Since JP Morgan Chase Bank is located in a very high-end area of Chicago in an A-class building, the owners expected the existing beauty of the access hall be retained and normal office operation hours maintained.

Since there was only limited access to the upper level, ThyssenKrupp used a specially designed rigging tool to transport the modules and material to the upper level with no need for building alterations. As the ES-Power custom design integrated the existing cladding into its design, the brand-new escalators look as if they have been there forever.

JP Morgan Chase BankChicago, Illinois

Sants Estació is Barcelona’s most important transport hub – Metro, suburban rail, regional rail and inter-city connections – with almost 30 m passengers per year. When planning to renew the over 40-year-old escalators, the challenge was to access the units while keeping the daily operations flowing.

ES-Power allowed the station to stay fully operational during modernization, minimizing traffic disruption and architectural impact. The maximum operational and safety enhancements were included, e.g. connection to the Metro network monitoring system and installing standby speed and stop & go, which resulted in 30% energy savings.

Sants Estació MetroBarcelona, Spain

The two moving walks at Malvern Station were installed by ThyssenKrupp in 1987. Since they had a very special truss design and a replacement would have been extremely expensive, the decision was taken to modernize them.

In the face of competition from other companies, ThyssenKrupp won the contract for the simple reason that competitors were unable to deliver the required solution. Now the moving walks have been upgraded to include additional safety features in order to reduce the risk of serious accidents, and to comply with the latest local code.
