School Captain’s Report

Prep: This week in Café reading, we are learning to retell a story form the

pictures. We are learning about the letter E and our words of the week are “with”

and “you”. We are learning to include where an event took place in recount

writing. In Maths, we are revising the days of the week and are learning to order

events in a day.

1/2: This week in Café reading we have started to look at the comprehension strategy, asking questions. We

discussed why good readers ask questions. In writing, we have continued to work on poetry. We have started our

Math’s rotations for subtraction and began to look at mass. In I.S. we talked more about farming and the different

produce that is grown. We enjoyed making Hairy Harrys.

3/4: This week in Café reading we have been working on the monitor and fix up strategy, so that we can under-

stand what we are reading. In Maths we had our last week of multiplication groups and looked at weight in our

classes. In I.S. we made towers out of newspaper. We really enjoyed showing our grandparents and friends

around our classrooms.

5/6: We have had a busy and fun week in 5/6. We loved having our grandparents and special friends visit on

Tuesday and coming in to show off our great school on Wednesday night. We all had an awesome time at the film

festival and enjoyed watching our classmates music videos. In Maths we worked hard on area and perimeter, as

well as looking at measurement and length. We continued focusing on persuasive writing during our writing time.

We are all looking forward to the Aussie Sports Expo on Friday.

Aerobics

We would like to wish all of our aerobics teams GOOD LUCK as they

head off to Geelong for the Aerobics State Championships. The teams

have all trained exceptionally hard under the watchful eye of

Miss Nyman, Miss Mackie and Mrs Kemp.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR We can not emphasise how much

EVERYONE has enjoyed the Book Fair.

The kids lost sleep and woke up early

in anticipation of purchasing their

books. We know from all of the

comments that the parents loved the

fact that the kids so desperately

wanted BOOKS. Thank you to the

Parents and Friends for having the

Book Fair and thank you to the

parents for supporting the Book Fair.

We hope your children have many

hours of fun reading their new books.

School Council President’s Report

Hello from the School Council! You may have noticed a few changes around the school since our last up-date. We were lucky enough to be offered a brand new double portable for Arts and Music. Over the past month the old portables have been removed and the new portables installed. Things have pro-gressed quickly and the buildings will soon be in use. Thank you to the neighbours and all our families for your patience whilst parking and traffic was affected.

The buildings are looking very smart and I’m sure the students (and teachers) will enjoy the bigger space. The upper basketball court and the Carter Street entrance now have fresh looks with brand new seating in the amphitheatre and fully replaced external fencing. Not so obvious is the updates to the boy’s

toilets in the hex building. This still needs to be completed however; the works should be a major im-provement to this area of our school.

The Building and Grounds maintenance roster should have now been received by all families that opted to not pay the maintenance levy. Reminders will also be included in the weekly newsletter. If you can’t make it to the school during your week, don’t panic. You are welcome to swap with another family or to help during another week. Ideas for ways in which you could help include pruning, weeding or sweeping but every little bit helps to keep our school looking great and promotes school pride. Don’t forget to check in with the office to let them know that you are there to help out with maintenance. If you visit over the weekend, the office would still like to know you have been so that they can recognise all those that volunteer their time.

Regards, Gemma Wynd
