Welcome to Worship at Federated! If you are new to Federated, please tell us on a “Visitors Card” & in a red Friendship Folder.

Children are welcome in worship at Federated. Children’s Activity Bags are at the Sanctuary entrance. The Library/“Cry Room” is child friendly. Child care is available Sundays in the Nursery. Ushers are here to help you — please ask them if you need hearing assistance devices and large

print hymnals. Ushering are Lloyd Castner, Cliff Jensen, Randy Kasper, John Peterson, Marilyn Perterson, Clark Smith, and Toby Sand, Youth Usher.

We are called Federated because on July 2, 1914, Columbus’ Congregational (now the United Church of Christ) and Presbyterian churches joined to serve as one congregation.

The Order of St. Andrew serves as Federated’s deacons. Prayer requests can be shared on Prayers Cards in the pew pockets or Prayer Chain requests to the Church Office (402) 564-2812

to call the Order of St. Andrew. The Prayer Chain is strictly confidential. If you missed worship last week, visit www.federatedcolumbus.org for videos of worship and bulletins, or on Channel 1304 (HD) Mondays & Saturdays at Noon and Sunday evenings at 8pm.

In case of an emergency, the pastors’ cell phone numbers are: Annika: (402) 942-1636 / Edward: (402) 302-2812

Custodial Service Update

Lent is a season to make time and space for prayer. Our sanctuary welcomes you into a quiet space for personal reflection and prayer. A selection of printed prayers will also be available. You are welcome to pray in the sanctuary any time that the church building is open (please use the south entrance of the church). A group will meet on Tuesdays from 1:30 – 2:30 PM for those wanting to be in prayer with others. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thess. 5: 16-18)

Shevlin Service Master will be providing custodial services to Federated Church on a trial basis through April. Please inform the church office if you find any area of the church in need of custodial attention (502) 564-2812 or [email protected].

* Call to Worship ‡ Marilyn Vrana, Liturgist (Sun.)

One: Sisters and brothers, God is at work in us and with us! All: God’s love holds us in all times and in all places. One: We are protected, in woe as in well, by the goodness of God. All: Through our worship, we love the God who dwells in us, and in whom we dwell. One: Let us turn our hearts to God with the sung prayer of confession. * Sung Prayer of Lenten Confession and Reconciliation Tune on Hymnal Pg. 422

We have failed to love our neighbors, their offences to forgive; Have not listened to their troubles, nor have cared just how they live,

We are jealous, proud, impatient, loving over much our things; May the yielding of our failings be our Lenten offerings.

Invitation to the Lord’s Table

*As you are able in body or in spirit, please rise. ‡ UCC Worship Ways

Great Prayer of Thanksgiving and the Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

Communion of God’s People Congregants are served communion in the pews. Please hold the bread and cup to partake together. Federated celebrates an open table, meaning all who trust in Christ are welcome to receive communion. Children are welcome to receive communion with the permission of parents and guardians as part of the family’s on-going conversations about faith. Only grape juice is served for communion, though the service sometimes refers to “wine.” Gluten-free wafers are at the center of bread trays. After partaking, please place cups in pew holders.

Unison Prayer after Communion All: Gracious God, you feed us with the bread of life, and renew us for your service. Help us to share Christ’s invitation to be faithful disciples going forth from this table. Amen.

* Communion Hymn No. 517 We Come as Guests Invited (verse 3)

Invitation to the Offering

Offertory When at Night I Go to Sleep Humperdinck

* Doxology ‡‡ Praise God throughout these forty days. Praise Christ, our Lord, whom God did raise

And praise the Spirit who imparts, God’s love in Christ into our hearts. Amen.

* Prayer of Dedication One: In the book of the prophet Micah, scripture asks us this question: All: What does the Lord require of us? One: The prophet responds: All: to love justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with God. O Lord, accept these offerings as one step on our humble walk with you. May our offerings extend justice and kindness in your world. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

* Hymn No. 376 Love Divine, All Loves Excelling (verse 3)

* The Benediction and the Passing of the Peace One: We have received grace upon grace from Christ’s table. In God’s grace we find peace. Let us now share that peace with one another: the peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you. One: Please greet one another with a sign of peace.

* Closing Hymn No. 376 Love Divine, All Loves Excelling (verse 4)
