Dear Parents,
Our courtyard has been cleared and the grounds are being prepared for the
installation of our play structures and outdoor playground in our garden. Next
week, Friday, Nov. 4 our grade sixes and sevens will be building our raised beds
under the direction of Laura Tatarov and Jeremy Noullett. All the materials have
been donated by Country Lumber. Thank you to you all! We are very much
looking forward to each stage of creating our garden and to our Grand Opening
on Friday November 25 at 1:00 pm. Please mark your calendars and plan to come
celebrate with us!
You are also most welcome to join in on the Halloween festivities this Monday,
October 31. We will continue on with our beloved traditions of our costume parade
shortly after the first bell, the colouring/drawing contest and the pumpkin carving
contest (pumpkins carved at home, then brought into the multipurpose room
Halloween morning). After our parade we will have our month end Celebration
Assembly.
We will also have some new activities this year! Our Leadership Team will be
running stations (e.g. the mummy wrap) in the gym between recess and lunch for
buddy classes to enjoy. They will also be selling bags of popcorn for $1.00 a bag to
raise money for our garden. They will be coming around to classes in the afternoon,
so please send your child with coins that day. The team will be deciding on an item
they will be raising funds for throughout the year to contribute to our beautiful
garden, and they are very excited about this and the fun we will all have on
Halloween!
Last week our staff was trained by district staff in the new reporting order and
program. This will be an adjustment for all; staff, students and parents, and we will
continue to do our best to communicate clearly with you regarding your child’s
progress.
We have been working very hard to collect resources for our aboriginal component
in our curriculum. We are very excited about what we have found and are looking
forward to enriching our learning experience with aboriginal story, history, science,
math and art. Carman McKay, an aboriginal presenter in our district, will be
carving four masks to create a circle in our garden, and he will be doing some of
the carving on site. This will give our students the opportunity to witness the
process of the creation of some beautiful aboriginal art.
Sincerely,
Dianne Chretien,
Principal

HOSPITAL-HOMEBOUND SERVICE AVAILABLE Supporting students absent for medical and/or psychiatric reasons.
If your child will be absent from school for 2 weeks or more due to injury, illness, surgery, or mental health contact your school
counselor or admin about a referral. This program is doctored directed and a medical note is required. Hospital-Homebound teachers
visit students two times per week, providing assistance so that students can return to classes with as little educational interruption as
possible. Students do the same work they would be doing if they were attending school, using the textbooks, worksheets, exercises,
assignments, and tests assigned by their classroom teachers.
More information can be found on the district website, or by calling Kristin Renville or Charis Rempel at (604) 532-0188 ext
