Announcements: Homework Hall Emails—When scholars do not complete a home-

work assignment on time, they will be assigned to a homework hall during lunch time to complete that assignment. Parents will receive an automatic, but generic, email letting them know. If you would like to find out which class’s homework your scholar did not complete, please call the main office at 214-445-3300 or email our receptionist Miss Jasmin at jmarroquin@uplifteducation.org.

FREE Afterschool Program at the Latino Cultural Center— Art Camp (ages 10-14) Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:00-7:00pm October 4- November 10, 2016 Scholars will have the opportunity to explore the use of different artistic media, such as, pencil, ink and acrylic paint. The focus will be on self-portrait. Scholars will learn to render themselves from observation but also to represent themselves through objects.

Flu Shot Information—If you would like your scholar to receive a

flu shot at school on October 11, please sign and return the

attached form by October 6.

Volunteers Needed—We would love to have a team of parents to

help keep the café safe, neat, and orderly. Call the main office or email Mrs. McCoy (vmargolin@uplifteducation.org) to RSVP.

From the Desk of the Director:

Our hope is that ULMS scholars will be able to say, “I can

self-monitor and regulate my emotions.” Here are tips to

use at home to help scholars Practice strategies to pre-

vent and eliminate bullying:

- Flood your scholar with positive affirmations. Tell your scholar every single day at least 3 things you believe to be true about him/her and love about him/her. (Ex: You are such a hard worker; You are filled with so many questions; You are the most creative person I know; You have such big hopes and dreams; You are so good to your younger sister; etc.)

- Teach your scholar to use positive self-talk to replace negative thoughts about him/herself with positive ones. (Ex: Replace “I stink at that” with “I’m going to keep working at that.” Replace “They don’t want to be my friend” with “I’m going to commit to being nice to every-one I talk to.”)

-Encourage your scholar to talk about his/her feelings, then keep asking non-judgmental questions to keep your scholar sharing with you. (Ex: Instead of “How was your day?” ask “How did you feel at school today? What was the happiest moment? The saddest moment? Did any-thing make you angry? How did you handle that? Did it work out for you? Are you content with the outcome? How do you hope it turns out tomorrow?”)

Nuestra esperanza es que los estudiantes de ULMS podrán decir: Estos

son algunos consejos para usar en casa para ayudar a los estudiosos

Practicar estrategias para prevenir y eliminar la intimidación "que pue-

de auto-controlar y regular mis emociones.":

- Inundar su estudiante con afirmaciones positivas. Informe a su estu-

diante diariamente por lo menos 3 cosas que usted cree que es verdad

acerca de él / ella y gusta de él / ella. (Ej: Usted es tan trabajador, usted

está lleno de tantas preguntas; Usted es la persona más creativa que

conozco; Usted tiene tan grandes esperanzas y sueños; Eres tan bueno

con tu hermana menor; etc.)

- Enseñe a su estudiante a utilizar el diálogo interno positivo para reem-

plazar los pensamientos negativos sobre él / ella misma con los positi-

vos. (Ej: Sustituir "no hago bien" con Reemplazar con seguiré intentán-

dolo. "Ellos no quieren ser mi amigo" con "Voy a comprometerse a ser

amable con todos hablo" Voy a seguir trabajando en eso. " a.")

-favorezcan Su estudiante para hablar de su / sus sentimientos, a conti-

nuación, seguir haciendo preguntas sin prejuicios para mantener su

intercambio académico con usted. (Ej: En lugar de "¿Cómo estuvo tu

día?" Pregunta "¿Cómo se sintió hoy en el colegio ¿Cuál fue el momen-

to más feliz ,El momento más triste ¿Hubo algo que le molesta ¿Cómo

lo manejoque lo hizo funciona para usted????? ¿Estás satisfecho con el
