AThey said the life of the Polytrack was seven years, and guess what, we=re seeing it,@ Harper told the publication. AThe asphalt is disintegrating because of the petroleum base in the wax. We had no other choice. This is the safest decision we could make.@ Keeneland became the first North American racetrack to install the synthetic surface in 2006 and Del Mar followed suit in 2007. Harper told the U-T that the return to dirt will require the permission of the Coastal Commission, but that there should be no delays or hiccups, given that the track will replace a petroleum-based product with one that is organic. Del Mar remains the only track on the Southern California circuit with a synthetic track. The now-shuttered Hollywood Park raced over Cushion Track, while Santa Anita transitioned back to dirt after a period of racing over ProRide. While there is a perception that snythetic tracks are kinder to Thoroughbreds and in fact, fewer fatalities have been recorded, Harper was quick to point out that the dirt is also safe. The addition of dirt is seen by some as the last stumbling block to a Breeders= Cup bid, as soon as 2015. THE CERTIFY SHOW CONTINUES Today=s G2 Balanchine S. at Meydan has drawn a compact but quality field of fillies and mares, and looks somewhat like a rematch of the Jan. 30 G2 Cape Verdi S., as it features the top four finishers that day. If the result looks at all similar, Certify (Elusive Quality) will be very tough to beat. The unbeaten winner of the 2012 G1 Fillies Mile, the Godolphin colorbearer returned from 16 months on the sidelines with no signs of rust, sitting off the pace before swooping down the middle of the track and annihilating the opposition without seeing the stick. The 4-year-old looks to extend her record to six straight today for trainer Charlie Appleby. "I have been very pleased with Certify since the Cape Verdi, and the plan was always to go for the Balanchine afterwards,@ Appleby said. "She is in very good condition and it is an easy nine furlongs at Meydan, so the step up in distance shouldn't be a problem. She didn't have a hard race in the Cape Verdi and she moved up very easily under hands and heels. L=Amour De Ma Vie (Dansili {GB}) was a clear-cutsecond best in the Cape Verdi, going down by three-quarters of a length, but without Certify in the race, she would have been a near five-length winner. The 5-year-old was making her Dubai debut that day, havingpreviously campaigned exclusively in France. She waslast seen winning the Listed Prix Miss Satamixa atDeauville Dec. 29. L=Amour De Ma Vie was purchasedfor $30,000 as a 2-year-old from the Palides Investment dispersal atKeeneland November in 2011. Pearl of Africa (Ire)(Jeremy) recovered from a tardy start in the Cape Verdito get up late for third, and her back class shows shecould hit the board again tonight. Winner of the ListedCooley Fillies S. at Dundalk Nov. 1, Pearl of Africafinished third in the G3 Dance Design S. and fourth inthe G2 Blandford S. in her prior two outings. Flotilla (Fr)(Mizzen Mast), who collected a formidable double in the2012 GI Breeders= Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and lastyear=s G1 French 1000 Guineas, came up empty in thelane in the Cape Verdi to finish fourth while looking torebound from two straight losses. She should not bediscounted for a rebound, however, with added fitnessand another shot at good ground.

Group 1 Form on Display in >Millennium=: The first running of Meydan=s Listed Dubai MillenniumS. has attracted a handful of competitors with Group 1form. AHe has improved fitness-wise since, and thislooked a good target for him.@ Godolphin=s Tasaday(Nayef), campaigned exclusively in France the past twoseasons, was making her Dubai debut in the AlRashidiya and could manage only ninth that day. The 4-year-old has back class to rely on, having won twogroup events last year and placed twice at the Group 1level, and trainer Saeed bin Suroor expressedconfidence in his charge. AIt was a bit disappointingwith Tasaday the first time, but she was hampered at acrucial stage and would certainly have finished closerwith some luck in running,@ he noted. AShe hasimproved from that run and her last piece of work wasvery good.
