You're highly sensitive and highly intellectual, Aquarius. This is a wonderful combinationand part of what makes you a superstar. Today's planetary positions challenge you to thinkhow you can best combine these two key components of your personality. Have you con-sidered writing? It might provide the sort of balance you seek. Start writing and see if it suitsyou.

You may be inclined to stay in bed today with the latest best seller, Pisces. Who wouldn'twant to spend the day this way? Alas, that isn't going to happen. The planets are prac-tically pulling the covers off you and pushing you out of bed. There's work to be done! And more importantly, there are people you need to see right now. Put a bookmark inthe book. It can wait.

You have a lot to offer, Aries. Everyone appreciates what you have to contribute. Yetyou've been unable to give yourself credit for all that you've accomplished. It would beworthwhile to take some time to contemplate why this is so. You have a strong need tobe loved, but you must first love yourself. Your family and friends will support you, butfirst you must support yourself.

Whether you acknowledge it or not, there's a child inside you who needs tending, Taurus. You're proud of the person you've become - and well you should be. But you're the productof who you once were. Today's planetary positions suggest you acknowledge all parts ofyour past - the good and the bad. Only after you've integrated all the elements can you bethe person you're meant to be.

Think of today as a well-earned rest day, Gemini. You're usually the one people turn to whenthey need consolation. Today, in spite of the tension in the air, your words seem to have noeffect. Let other people take care of themselves for a change. You can spend your time qui-etly reading a good book. It's much more relaxing to get involved in drama that's fictionalrather than real.

Today take stock of all that's occurring on the home front, Cancer. Think back over thelast few months and you will see how much of your attention has been on work ratherthan loved ones. There's probably some fallout as a result. Fortunately, a few days inclose contact with family will put everything right. You can't blame them for wanting tobe with you. Try to indulge them.

Think long and hard before making commitments, Leo. Much is at stake, especially whereyour love life is concerned. It's likely that a proposal is coming your way. Do you know howyou will answer? Events may have you feeling like you're at a crossroads when actuallyyou're more on track than ever. The key lies in trusting your instincts and remaining true toyour ideals.

You will be busy today, Virgo. Nevertheless, you still may end the day with your desk piledhigh with projects - not because you're unproductive, but rather because you're popularand your work is valued. You may be wishing you weren't quite so valuable! Don't getstressed about all you have to do. No one expects you to get it all done immediately. Getsome rest. Tomorrow is another day.

You've been working exceptionally hard, Libra. Today is a good day to recharge your bat-teries. It seems everyone wants a piece of you. You may have reached the point where youhave nothing left to give. It's OK to say so. If possible, take the phone off the hook and re-serve the day for yourself. Sleep in, meditate, go for a walk - you get the idea!

Today could be a turning point for you, Scorpio. Is it possible that you've finally learned howto say no? You're the one everyone asks for help. You spend so much time on other people'sproblems that you have little energy left for you. This situation ultimately helps no one. Putyourself first and there will be plenty of you left for others. If you're depleted, everyone loses.

Today's planetary positions urge you to assert yourself, Sagittarius, but take care not totake this encouragement too far. You have a tendency to go a bit overboard when makinga point. There are times (and this is one) when subtlety is more powerful. Try being low keyand open rather than uptight and defensive. You have a warm personality, so why not letothers experience it?

You have a strong creative component to your personality. You should use it more. Today'splanetary positions will influence both your creativity and productivity. You will likely findyourself working as never before, and with better results. Take advantage of this phasewhile it lasts! This is your moment to prove to others just what you're capable of.

(NC) There’s the busy lead-up to Christmas, the happy frenzyof the day itself and that sweet spot afterwards, when chil-dren’s gifts are still new and interesting.

But most kids get two weeks off school. It’s easy to defaultto Netflix or videogames, but these can leave everyoneclimbing the walls after awhile.

If you’re home with your kids, there are many things to doto fill the time. Many involve learning something together —not a bad idea for kids who’ll need to think again in January.

Here are five things you can do over the winter break:

Take advantage of free activities. Check the “What’s On?”schedule for your community. Community centres, librariesand public parks and rinks often have great ways to spendtime together.

Download an educational app or two. Then give your kidsa series of challenges to complete. Google Earth can takethem anywhere in the world. What are five things they seewhen standing beside the Eiffel Tower?

Deliver a gift overseas. The World Vision Gift Catalogue ex-plores the lives of kids in developing countries. Have yourchild browse the site and select a gift from your family totheirs. Your donation before December 31 means a 2018 taxreceipt.

Read a new book together. You can share the same bookor read your own together. Chat about the latest chapter atdinnertime each day. Which character do they like best? Canthey guess what will happen next?

Take a bus or train trip. Is there a part of the city youhaven’t visited? A nearby town you’d like to see? Pack alunch, then hit the road on wheels or rail. If they have aphone, document the day with pictures.

GREAT WINTER BREAK ACTIVITES!

Jokes of the WeekJust before Santa took off for his annual around the worldtrip, Mrs. Claus looked out the window and commented...

"It looks like rain-dear!"-------------------------------------------------------------------------How do you know Santa has to be a man?

No woman is going to wear the same outfit year after year. -------------------------------------------------------------------------Why was Santa's little helper depressed?

Because he had low elf esteem.-------------------------------------------------------------------------What do you call Santa’s helpers?

Subordinate Clauses.-------------------------------------------------------------------------Why are Christmas trees so bad at sewing?

They always drop their needles!

RYAN & THE MOVIES- Mortal Engines -

Mortal Engines is a disappointment. Al-

though the premise is utterly absurd, the

film takes itself far too seriously, appar-

ently missing the metaphorical and satir-

ical nature of its world almost

completely. The film just seems to try to

succeed on pure scale alone, and while

there is some impressive steampunk

production design, especially on London,

much of the movie is generally unappealing. This is especially

the case with the characters, particularly Hera Hilmar's lead,

who is far too guarded and hostile for the audience to connect

with until its too late, and others are simply steamrolled by the

demands of the plot, which tries to pack far too much story in

its 130 minute running time, complete with some dubious di-

alogue. Although largely feeling like a toned-down Mad Max, it

cannibalizes numerous other films like The Terminator into a

generic post-apocalyptic mix that feels like it has little identity

of its own, and it is hard to believe this unlikely franchise starter

comes from the same team that gave us The Lord of the Rings

trilogy.
