MCCOOK HIGH SCHOOL 2021 GRADUATION At this time we are planning on the event being held with 100% ca-pacity. We are planning on no restrictions. This will be subject to the directed health measures in place at the time. While we cannot pre-dict the future month, we can tell you as of now we are planning on a full event. McCook High School Principal Jeff Gross says McCook High School Graduation will take place on Sunday, May 16th, 2021 @ 2:00 pm. It will be held at the Graff Event center on the campus of McCook Community College. Gross says at this time we are planning on the event being held with 100% capacity. They are planning on no restrictions. This will be subject to the directed health measures in place at the time. Gross says while they cannot predict the future month, they can tell you as of now we are planning on a full event. Will masks be required? At this time the McCook Public Schools and all school related activities remain in a mask mandate. Until that di-rective changes, masks will be required. Gross says they recognize the need for everyone to be making plans for this very important event. We will do our very best to keep you updated on any changes between now and then.
2022 REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR NOMINEE Yesterday, conservative farmer, businessman, and University of Ne-braska Regent Jim Pillen announced his candidacy to be the 2022 Republican nominee for Governor of Nebraska. “Our state is at a crossroads, and it’s never been more important to have principled, conservative leadership with a vision for Nebraska’s future,” said Pillen. “We have to fix our broken property-tax system, grow our economy statewide, and defend our principles and our way of life. The next decade will make all the difference, and I want to help keep Nebraska great so all our kids and grandkids can prosper. I’m humbled by this opportunity to serve, and I’ll work hard to make my case to every voter I can in the coming year. We’re excited to get started.” In a campaign announcement video released to-day, Pillen discussed his roots in Nebraska agriculture and his commit-ment to protecting the values, freedoms, and unparalleled quality of life Nebraskans enjoy. “Nebraska represents the best of America, and this is where we make our stand,” he said.
NATIONAL HERITAGE AREA IN NEBRASKA Governor Pete Ricketts and state leaders announced their opposition to the creation of a National Heritage Area in Nebraska. Recently, the Kansas Nebraska Heritage Area Partnership announced their in-tent to seek a National Heritage Area designation for 49 counties in Nebraska and Kansas. “The designation of a National Heritage Area in our state requires federal approvals from the National Park Ser-vice and the U.S. Congress,” said the Governor and state leaders in their letter. “Federal designations come with unquantifiable and un-knowable risks for the future. Conditions and requirements for fed-eral management can change at any time without vital input from the states, eroding state and local control of decision-making regarding our land and communities. A federal agency and new administration can unilaterally issue new regulations or orders governing areas with a federal designation.”

After a nationwide search, San José State University has named for-
mer Nebraska men's coach Tim Miles head coach of the men’s basket-
ball program. San José State Director of Athletics Marie Tuite made
the announcement on Tuesday. “I am so thrilled to announce Tim
Miles as our new head men’s basketball coach and welcome him and
his wife, Kari, daughter Ava, son Gabe and “Sammy” (family dog) to
the Spartan Family,” Tuite said. “Going into this national search, my
top priorities were to find someone that not only had head coaching
experience, but also had success in building programs. Coach Miles
fits that description perfectly. If you look at the job he did at Colorado
State and Nebraska, you will see that he completely changed the
culture of those programs and elevated each program to new heights.
