A distressed farmer fromRajasthan today committed sui-cide in full public view in thepresence of Delhi Chief MinisterArvind Kejriwal, who came underattack for “utter insensitivity” ingoing ahead with his rally.

The incident triggered ablame game among politicalrivals with demands being madethat a case of murder be filedagainst AAP which had organ-ised a rally against the Centre’sland acquisition ordinance.

Unmindful of the appealsfrom AAP leaders and workersto climb down from a tree atJantar Mantar, 41-year-oldGajendra Singh, a father ofthree, had put his towel aroundhis neck and tied it to a branch.

As police watched the wholedrama, a couple of AAP workersclimbed the tree and tried to res-cue him, but by then the noosehad stifled Singh, whose bodyhanged for a few momentsbefore falling. He was rushed tothe nearby RML hospital wherehe was declared brought dead.

The farmer, who was heardshouting slogans against the

land bill, had left a suicide notein which he had claimed he wasdisowned by his father after thefamily suffered huge crop lossdue to unseasonal rains.

Meanwhile, the ChiefMinister went ahead with the rallywhere he spoke for almost 20minutes, launching a stridentattack on Prime MinisterNarendra Modi accusing him ofworking for the “super rich” andquestioning the hurry with whichhis Government brought the landacquisition ordinance.(PTI)
