The hos- pital is functioning without an Operation Theatre for pediatric use. Last week, the Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed visited the hospital and directed the Health and Medical Education depart- ment authorities to relocate the Gynaecological ward and convert the facility along with its operation theater into a pediatric surgical wing. The order (No PS/Secy/ H&ME/5098/2015)—copy of which has been accessed by Greater Kashmir—states there is a dedicated facil- ity for maternal care and gynecology available in the form of Lal Ded hospital in Srinagar which has been upgraded from 500 to 700 bed capacity. In the order, the Secre- tary H&ME, MK Bhandari, had directed the District Commissioner, Srinagar to get the issue relating to uti- lization of part of GB Pant hospital for obstetrics and gynaecology immediately resolved so as to make the facility “an exclusive pedi- atric care center till a full- fledged pediatric hospital comes up in Srinagar.” “You (DC) are according- ly requested to take neces- sary steps in this regard,” the order reads. The order also directed Principal Government Medical College Srinagar “to start using this (gynae) facility only for pediatric care and ensure that any patient reporting for gynae- cological support at GB Pant is referred to LD hospital.” Many minors booked in Shopian for ‘stone pelting, protests’ DC says ‘we have decided to forgive them’; Parents say Tehsildar refused to sign bail papers on DC’s directions BOYS BOOKED TARIQ NAQASH Muzaffarabad, July 8: Prime Minister of Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PaK) Chaudhry Abdul Majeed Wednesday warned Islam- abad against any attempt to convert Gilgit-Baltistan into a Pakistani province. “Gilgit-Baltistan is part and parcel of Jammu and Kashmir and any attempt to merge it with Pakistan will deal a fatal blow to our stand (on Kashmir issue) in the light of UN resolutions envis- aging right to self-determina- tion for Kashmiris,” he told a press conference here. Of late, some Kashmiri leaders have expressed seri- ous concerns over the alleged move to convert GB as fifth province of Pakistan. On Tuesday, PaK Presi- dent Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan also cautioned that any such step would be more damaging than dis- memberment of East Paki- stan in 1971. “I call upon the Prime Minister of Pakistan to avoid any such decision that does not fall in his competence,” Majeed said. Recalling that GB was given administrative con- trol of Pakistan on temporary basis, he advised Islamabad not to think beyond that. “On behalf of over 17.5 mil- lion Kashmiris, I warn you (Islamabad) to change your thoughts. Or else, there will be a severe reaction,” he said. To a question about con- stitutional amendments, he said it was the responsibility of the (PaK) parliamentary committee to seek consent of the Prime Minister of Paki- stan and Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs to carry out this task “smoothly and amicably.” “I do not know whether they have taken the permis- sion or not,” he said, adding, he had asked chairman par- liamentary committee Mat- loob Inqilabi and leader of the opposition Raja Farooq Haider to talk to the federal government in this regard. “They (opposition PML-N) say we should table the bill and they will manage sup- port of the federal govern- ment. Now the ball is in their (PML-N) court. Even if they want me to accompany them to Islamabad, I am ready,” he said.
