Curriculum Update ‘National Science week ran from the 12th to the 20th of August. The theme this year was ‘Future Earth’, focusing on Australia’s sustainability science. In order to understand how perfect Earth is to meet our needs, 5/6H worked with Playdough, following instructions to correctly proportion the model of each planet in our solar system. Students were astounded by the size of other planets in comparison to our own. With an understanding of the scale of our solar system, students could see just how perfect planet earth is to sustain life, and how science is needed to help preserve the planet.’ Great job, Miss Hannah and 5/6H!

Sentral Parent Portal Thank you to the parents who have approached me to let me know that the new portal looks great. It has also been positive to hear people checking their portal for the parent bulletins. I will be adding a new parent bulletin every Friday to let you know what is happening at MWHPS in the week ahead. Remember you will not receive a notification that the bulletin is there you will need to get you in the habit of checking the portal. So remember to log into your portal account.

Congratulations to the girls netball team!! The team won the district competition.

Thank you to April, Ana and Deb who accompanied the team on the day. These

wonderful ladies are more than happy to help out our sporting teams, and we

couldn’t have done it without them! THANK YOU!!

This week’s eSmart focus is the Raising Children Network website. This website gives some practical tips and ideas for parents in regards to screen time. Screen time is the time you spend each day using devices with screens, like TVs, video consoles, smartphones and tablets. There are benefits and risks to using these devices, so a healthy family lifestyle includes limits on daily screen time.

English as an Additional Language (EAL) Our EAL students are working hard each week to learn the english language whilst also learning new concepts. They are constantly practising their speaking skills with their fellow students, teachers and peers. The EAL students are also adapting to our Australian culture in leaps and bounds. This week our juniors were given the opportunity to bring in a game from their own country to play in our lesson, Geonui in 1/2TM bought in a Korean game to share, which was very similar to our own Monopoly. In the lesson we enjoyed playing the game and Geonui even taught us some Korean words.

Hi everyone!

This week at before and after school care students have been busy preparing for their student initiated Extend play. They have been busy at work writing their script, making props and holding group meetings to figure out resources

needed to meet their play deadline. It has been amazing to watch the students work together as a team to create and run this play by themselves. Students have taken on a variety of leadership roles to get the play organised and also encouraged all students to participate and work together. This week the students have also enjoyed using our natural resources to build a variety of different creations during imagination creation. We have also cooked blueberry muffins, made scoobie bracelets and tried out a new slime recipe!! It has been a fun filled week at Extend!

Coming up next week:

Monday August 28: Imagination creation, natural resources

Tuesday August 29: Sports Clinic Wednesday August 30: Cooking corn fritters, sharks and fishes

Thursday August 31: Construction- Foil path marble tracks Friday September 1: Science- Balloon rockets, playground

AND OUR EXTEND SUPER-STAR OF THE WEEK IS.....

Natasha S 3/4S

For showing great communication skills when helping to prepare for Extends play. Natasha also has a great ability to remove herself from conflict and allows herself some chill out time to reflect

upon her feelings.

From Rylie and the kids at Extend. :)
