PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Welcome new families Welcome to Term 2 everyone. A special welcome to our new families. We had 9 new students start on Tuesday and have several more to start over the next couple of weeks. Term 2 will be as busy as ever with our postponed Cross Country today, Athletics carnival scheduled for week 6 and semester one reports to go home later this term. Mother’s Day Breakfast – Reminder

A reminder that next Friday we will hold our Mother’s Day Breakfast. Mothers (grandmothers, aunties, step-mums and those who fill a mothering role) are welcome to come along. This year, responding to feedback from mothers, we will be having bacon and egg ‘rolls’ for breakfast. There will be some gluten free bread available also and some fruit.

So come along between 7.30am to 9.00am. Please note that you will be responsible for the supervision of your child(ren) during this time.

Mother’s Day Stall - Reminder The P & C will hold their annual Mother’s Day Stall on Friday 10th May. This year the P & C have responded to feedback from families and have a range of items to buy rather than the old system of donate an item/buy an item. See the P & C section of the newsletter for more details.

ANZAC Day Last week our senior student ministers laid a wreath on behalf of the school community at the Terrigal ANZAC Day commemoration. Our other leaders and students also participated in the march to the cenotaph.

Building Update Our new building is tracking well and on schedule for completion by the end of 2019. The second storey ‘slabs’ were poured over the holidays and have been stress tested. The walkway links to the hall, mezzanine and the library will be the next sections worked on and also the steel for the second storey. In the next week or two, the entry past KA and KN will be closed one afternoon. We will let you know exactly when once we get to that point. This will mean that students and families will need to exit via the second level and down the grass bank on the northern side of the school just for that afternoon. We will provide more information once we have a scheduled date. 1J and 3E Classroom Works Over the holidays 1J’s classroom was re-carpeted and painted to refresh it, through the NSW Government school maintenance program. The 3E classroom will also receive a new ceiling this week. OC Class Applications – Attention Year 4 Families Opportunity classes are located at Gosford and Wyong Public Schools. Opportunity classes cater for Year 5 and Year 6 academically gifted and talented students. These classes help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students and using specialised teaching methods and educational materials at the appropriate level. Students in Year 4 are able to apply. Later in the year applicants sit an entry test.

For this year’s 5 Lands Walk, students will be creating some marine debris artworks involving weaving hoops. Each class will create some hoops. Each class requires donations of used/old items to use for weaving. Old t-shirts, ribbon, string, coloured plastic bags would all be useful. Please send along to your class. Rugby Union Trials Five students are attending Rugby Union trials today. We wish them luck. Choir

Our choir will start their rehearsals for the Central Coast Choral Festival next week. We wish them well.

Rugby Sevens Our Rugby 7’s team start their games next week. We wish them well. Michael Burgess Principal Dog Safety Talks

This term all Kindergarten and Year 1 students will be attending Dog Safety Talks as part of their Safe Living program. A Pet Educator from the Responsible Pet Education Program will bring a calm, well-trained dog with them to discuss how students can keep themselves safe around dogs. It should be an informative and enjoyable session. Kindergarten and Year 1 parents/carers are asked to speak with their child’s teacher in advance if their child is afraid of dogs so we can provide any necessary additional support.

Seasons for Growth at Terrigal Public School

Change happens to each and every one of us.

We all have a story to tell.

Sometimes the change is completely unexpected and leaves us felling lost, empty, angry ….. unable to explain how we feel ….. but thinking, “ no-one understands”.

Seasons for Growth (SFG) is an educational, peer-support, grief and loss program, that aims at increasing our kids resilience to cope when unexpected change happens, and the people we love are just not there anymore.

SFG focuses on the health and wellbeing of those who choose to participate, and the effects that ‘change’, associated with death, divorce and/ or separation, can have on the child.

The program is an early intervention program offering continued support.
