Swimming Carnival Congratulations to all of our swimmers on their efforts at the carnival this week. Well done to our House Captains for their leadership of their teams. Thank you to Mrs Haines for her organisation of the carnival and to all staff for their work at the carnival. Thank you parents for your support. The day ran smoothly and I appreciate that a number of parents took the time to thank Mrs Haines and other staff for their efforts. Bunnings BBQ Our P & C are holding a BBQ at Bunnings West Gosford this Saturday. The crew will be there from early till about

4pm. If you can help out with cooking or serving please visit the canteen to put your name on the roster or turn up on Saturday and help out. If you are tied up with kids sport on Saturday why not call in for a sausage as you ferry your children

around to their various commitments.

Parent Information Evening Thank you to the many parents and carers whom were able to attend information evenings. We had a great roll up and the feedback from parents was very positive. If you were unable to make the sessions, teachers will send home some information and you are welcome to contact the teacher via the diary to make an appointment for a meeting.

Every Day Counts – Student Attendance It is important that students attend school every day. Not only is it a legal requirement it is also important in consistency for learning and in maintaining and developing relationships. Missing days at school quickly adds up.

If your child is absent for: That means over a year Which is That means from Kindy Year 12

1 day a fortnight 20 days 4 weeks a year Nearly 1 ½ years of learning missed

1 day a week 40 days 8 weeks a year More than 2 ½ years of learning missed

If your child has a valid reason for being absent from school (being sick for example) then you need to inform the school. A family holidays is not a justified reason for missing school. Holidays should be organised for school holiday time.

Coles Vouchers For Schools Thank you to the many families who have placed Coles vouchers in the boxes at Coles and the one in our school foyer. Bus Travel All students travelling to and from school by bus must have, and produce, a school OPAL card, child/youth opal card or cash fare. Bus companies have a ‘grace’ period at the beginning of the year as students get their OPAL cards organised. That period is now over and bus companies are expecting that students produce a school OPAL card or pay the cash fare. Please ensure that, if your child is travelling by bus, they have the correct card/cash to cover their fare. To apply for a School Opal card for free bus travel, you will need to live a minimum distance from your school to be eligible: Years K-2 (Infants) - No minimum distance. Years 3-6 (Primary) - 1.6km straight line distance or 2.3km walking or further. You can apply for a school OPAL card using the following link: https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/#/ Or you can apply for a child/youth using this link: https://www.opal.com.au/en/about-opal/types-of-opal-cards/ Wyong High School Technology Program – Year 7 2019/2020 Wyong High School conducts a selective information technology program. The program provides an opportunity for students in the program to undertake their studies supported by quality technology, expert teachers and support to extend and develop their technology skills. An open evening will be held on the 6th of March for students in Years 4, 5, 6 considering this pathway as an option for Year 7. What: WHS Information Technology Program Information Evening When: Tuesday 6th March, 2018 Where: Wyong High School – 53 Alison Rd, Wyong NSW in the school Multi-Purpose Centre (Hall) Time: 5.30pm

Extra Curricula Opportunities Extra- curricula programs are conducted by teachers in a range of areas. The programs offered are determined by the skills and willingness of staff members. Teachers conduct these programs in their own time and don’t receive additional time off or additional payment for managing these programs. Many of the programs are selective and teachers make their selection based on the balance of the whole team/group. Band – our band program is managed by the Central Coast Conservatorium of Music. One of our teachers Mrs Byrne co-ordinates from the school side. Two bands operate – concert band for those with experience and the training band for those early in their skills development. Lessons are held weekly. Some instruments are available for hire from the school. Contact Mrs Byrne via the school office for further information. Choir – We have a senior and junior choir. Both choirs perform at various events. Mrs Clulow manages the senior choir and Mrs Woodward and Mrs MacDonald manage the junior choir. Starstruck – A group of senior students participate in Starstruck, a huge production which involves schools across Newcastle, the Hunter and Central Coast. These dancers perform a routine with hundreds of other students. Mrs Walkaden is co-ordinating this program. Dance Festival – a group of stage 2 and 3 students who dance for school events but also aim for selection in the Central Coast Dance Festival. Mr Hoadley and Mrs Graham are managing this program.

Art club - provides an opportunity for a group of students to extend their art skills at lunchtime weekly. This program is managed by Mrs Long. Sport – A range of sports are supported with teams participating in state knockouts as well as local events. Usually these teams are selected from senior students. Fitness group – This program runs for a group of students looking to be physically active. Miss Williams manages this program.

Privacy Notice – External Providers Our school utilises the services of some external commercial providers to facilitate digital management of some of our administrative and student services operations. These providers allow us to provide a higher level of service to parents and students. It also frees up teachers’ time to concentrate on learning rather than undertaking administrative tasks. The two providers we use are SENTRAL and MSP (Master School Portraits). SENTRAL provides software which we use for a range of administration purposes including tracking attendance, student wellbeing management, reporting to parents, and curriculum provision. MSP provides annual photography services. To allow these companies to provide these services we allow access to some personal information of students. Without provision of this information the services would not be able to be provided. For example with MSP we provide student names and classes so that they can be included on class photos which are then available for purchase. Both companies have met stringent requirements for the safety and security of personal information. They follow protocols for the management of the information we share. We review the use of these services each year. We have used these providers for several years without incident.

Cricket Trial Game Last Friday evening students vying for a place in the school cricket team played a trial game at The Haven. Thanks to parents for your support. Thank you to Mr Drennan for organising the game and thanks to Mr Lowe for cooking the BBQ. Riding Bikes to School Only students 10 years or older should be riding their bikes to school unaccompanied. Students must wear their helmet and park their bike in the designated area. It is recommended that students bring a device to secure their bike. Some students have been asking to put their bikes inside. Unfortunately this is not possible. If students don’t want their bikes to be outside then they should leave their bike at home and walk to school. Michael Burgess Principal Helper Required for Cooking

Parent helpers required for Stage 2 – Years 3 & 4 in the kitchen. Helpers needed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you can help out on any day please call the school and leave your name and number or drop a note to Mrs Heidi Murphy.
